I will be hones this was a huge match for both of these wrestlers and it was a highly anticipated match, but the crowd made it sound like it was the best match in history of wrestling and it wasnt but it was a really great match.
David Taylor is a BEAST. He just keeps going up weight classes and winning it all and making a name for himself in a BIG BIG way every weight he wrestles, hats off to Collin, though, good match on both sides.
Great match, Palmer seemed to gas out, mentally broken..Taylor is like Metcalf, he just keeps pushing the pace. After Taylor got the tilt points his adrenaline kicks in when he lets Palmer up... Anybody can be #1 and still not be looked at as good. For instance Jon Burns beat Mason and another ranked wrestler... Its all about which "YOU" shows up to wrestle.. Wrestling is a sport where anybody can win at any given time. That's why we love it so much we develop our own styles on the mat... The Greatest and Toughest sport known to man.. There is nobody to blame on the mat..
I'd say Ohio and Pa are pretty even. It goes back and forth yearly. New Jersey, Iowa, Florida, Cali, Michigan etc. are all great wrestling states, but Ohio and Pa. are generally the most dominant.
I think Grajales-Taylor match will be a great one, and it doesnt matter where your from, you have national champs from every state...Its all about who works hardest and is mentally prepared for the match.
ive actually wrestled 2 yrs in college so im pretty sure ive wrestled b4....and florida wrestling doesnt even compare to ohio wrestling and i never said u were running....im saying florida is known for their "sprinters" their "track stars" thats wat i meant by ur runners u dumb ass
Florida wrestling is not a joke, but it is not Ohio wrestling and more specifically, no FL HS is St Paris Graham wrestling. Every day of the school week David could go with a DIFFERENT state champion. Brian Stephens, Nick Brascetta, Fielipe Martinez, Zac Neibert and Kyle Ryan.
Not a bad room of teammates. Don't forget a good room of coaches.to wrestle, also.
florida wrestling isn't a joke, just because were wrestling here doesnt mean were running, wtf is ur problem. You probably never wrestled a day in ur life anyways, we work just as tough as any other wrestler in the nation.
taylor would take it to grajales no problem! all grajales does is muscle and theres no doubt in my mind that palmer is stronger than grajales and look at wat taylor just did to palmer in this match! well hopefully find out when the college season rolls around unless grajales bumps away from him! and another thing if Brandon wrestling is suppose to be so "bad ass" then why were they only ranked 7th in the nation last season? and why dont they ever wrestle at the ironman tourney? u put them up again Graham they would get destroyed! florida is where the runners are located not wrestlers!
no way taylor beats grajales eric wouldent let taylor get a shot in on him eric is in excellent shape he looks bored in matches cuz no one can handle him eric is more powerful then taylor
taylor is numba 1 for a reason. grajales gets tired in his matches. ive never seen taylor get gassed. theres no way taylor loses. only a moron or ohio hater would think so. ohio breeds light weight champs. taylor and the steibers. unstoppable.
taylor would kill grajales. Better shape, better technique, better ground game. Grajales would die. I've seen both wrestle. Grajales is similar to sponseller, takedown takedown takedown, but he is no match more taylor who is overall a way more sound wrestler
ive seen taylor wrestle........and ive seen grajalas wrestle. i think that if those two were to ever meet up grajalas would win. he stays in better position, hes stronger, and both wrestlers speed technique and balance match up evenly. grajalas just has way more weapons and is much more dangerous.
If Taylor was the exact weight as Palmer he would kill him is Technique is WAY better Taylor is going to to good in college Plamer is going to beat down like his older brother ahahahh
back. ok so taylor moved up a weight class
and beat a kid. and not just a kid. a man-child
the #1 wrestler in 140. not just that, but if you've
seen palmer. and seen taylor. palmer looked to me
like he was gonna break talyor in half! but thats exactly
my point. grajales is kind of like palmer. he looks/is big
but idk if hes ever wrestled up and beat a #1 ranked kid...
all yall need to stop talkin smack about how good other people are
if you wanna talk smack, only talk about how good you are.
im only 14, but for a fact i have seen taylor work out
he works really really hard. he's also a good, clean kid.
i have grajales on myspace. hes a bad kid. and i've never
really seem him work out. taylor v.s. taylor: i predict that
taylor isn't gonna pin grajales, but he'll deffinently beat him
by points....
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
I don't think so. Tsirtsis, Tanelli, Russell, Jaggers & Thorn is too much. He might place @ 133 with a little luck of the draw. College is brutal. David will be good in the big 12 next year.
Jersey has 2 classes. One is prep and 1 public. Ohio mixes both by size of school. Graham is a public school. The greats like Blair And St. Ed's are prep.
Facts Jersey! Anonymous Coward he was ranked NO.1 @ 112, "aau" national championships& only 4x Ironman Champion, so puke on that. Lester v. Taylor for Best lightweight in Ohio. I remember ya Willie but ya did wrestle schedules like Taylor or Lester. Cincy area is distant second to Cleveland and Grahams'.
Some of the stalemate calls seemed quick. Great match. Palmer just didn't seem to have that little extra to get it done. Taylor was able to ride him. That take down in the first period was flawless.
Three divisions is right for Ohio. Lots of farm country. Ohio still has graduating HS classes in the double digits at some of the smaller HS's.
Down in the hills of Vinton county, or the Houston's of Ohio, no way these tiny schools could compete with the monster private schools in Cleveland, or Cincinnati.
One main reason why small town St Paris can compete.
Jeff Jordan
I have watched this video EVERY day, since Saturday. It is (now) my most enjoyable wrestling match ever. Sorry David Erwin, ya got bumped.
two words three divisions .... makes no sense and theyll never wrestle again bc in college taylor is always going to be lighter just like in high school taylor bumped up in college thats not gona happen .. if there werent 3 divivons collin could see him in the finals but nahhhh 3 divisions are better u guys got it all right in ohio
The word out of Florida is Eric wants to wrestle Taylor. This was posted on scout.
Eric Grajales wants to wrestle David Taylor
I just had a long conversation from a fan in Brandon who is in a position to know and he told me that Eric Grajales wants to wrestle David Taylor.
Apparently, when he watched the video on flowrestling of the bout between Taylor and Palmer, on the video after the bout, Taylor appeared to call out Eric.
Grajales would like the bout to occur as part of the Dapper Dan event and it would be best for both if they would weigh-in at 140 as there is a plus 5 pounds allowance for the 135-pound class where they are both ranked with Taylor as Number 1 in a couple of polls and Grajales as Number 1 in some other polls.
One of the rankings gurus, Bob Preusse who does the prep rankings for Amateur Wrestling News where he has Taylor as #1 and Grajales #2, says, "No one is happy where they are ranked, only one can be # 1,...settle it on the mat."
Grajales would love to wresle Taylor. If they can't wrestle as part of the Dapper Dan, then he'll wrestle him on a mat in the corner of the gym, or anywhere at a high school in Pittsburgh during that time.
Apparently, some want Grajales to wrestle against Taylor in the NHSCA Senior Nationals scheduled to take place in early April in Virginia.
The situation is that Grajales plans to switch over to the international styles, specifically to concentrate on Greco-Roman, as Grajales has been invited to participate in a USA Wrestling trip overseas to Bulgaria from March 2-9. Plus Grajales wants to compete for the USA FILA Junior World Team again, where he hopes to medal and he wants to compete in the USA Wrestling Senior Nationals in Las Vegas during early April.
Thus, he has agreed to extend his folkstyle season competition for a month after the end of the Florida high school season which ends with the State Finals in Lakeland on February 21 but he can't extend it beyond the time frame of the Dapper Dan event.
These were Eric's exact words as told to me,
"We are both going to be in Pittsburgh at the same time. I'd like to wrestle him in the Dapper Dan. If not on a mat in the corner of the gym, or in the freaking parking lot or out on the street. Lets just strap on our shoes and get it on."
repl
Add Harry Lester to that list of Ohio's greatest wrestlers. Would have been great for the fans to see him stay wreslting in the NCAA's instead of the world circuit where there wasnt much coverage, but I do understand why he did it. I really have to say I think Harry is the best ever out of Ohio, but again Im only 25 so there could be others before him. I would definitly put him in front of both Schlaetters!
Palmer was looking into the crowd when the match was going on and got beat 8-5 by a smaller guy.....Taylor is the best rider in high school right now that whole 3rd peroid palmer was tiring to get away and could'nt great job to Taylor....If Palmer wants to be know as one of the top wrestlers in the nation he needs to take wresting more serious and stop worring about what the crowd is saying or doing.....flat out
Taylor has lost to Jamie Clark from St Eds and Ben Sergent not sure what team he is but it's in Ohio, He avenged both losses though by beating them the next time around.
Taylor has also beat Logan Steiber in the Iron Man Finals (who was ranked 7th in the senior nationals last time I looked)...Steiber breezed through Fargo by teching every one he wrestled.
This is probably the most epic match i have ever seen i mean it was just soooooo epic. These guys are just so awsome. They are so awsome that they could beat any one, any day, any time.
I thought the match was extremely well officiated. 180 degrees this, 45 degrees that, 4 inches private pyle blah blah blah. Those were backs in every state including Ohio.
One problem I have with Palmer is the fact he can't hit a stand up. Taylor rode tough but in big matches trying to hit switches usually gets you ridden like it did here, and eventually turned. Match strategy and big match intelligence goes to Taylor.
I see alot of potential in Palmer.
Taylor needs to do more on his feet as well but both put on a good show.
Close match, but not the best match from Taylor. He only answered what Palmer did instead of being aggressive or offensive, hence the stall warning. The officials were horrible as well. When working two man mechanics they need to be 180 degrees across from eachother and they practically ran into one another, plus the nearfall call at the end was blown. NFHS rule book states nearfall criteria is 45 degrees and BOTH shoulders must be 4 inches from the mat for atleast 2 CONSECUTIVE seconds. In the video it is obvious neither criteria were met. If I were Palmers coach I would have protested, and probably won the protest. If they meet at state I hope it's better officiated. The funny thing is I have been a fan of Taylor but this wasnt impressive for his level or accomplishments.
are you kidding me taylor has beat everyone put in front of him, only 4 time iron man champ won the super 32 has only lost two matches in highschool. palmer is also a stud and is going to be a OHIO STATE BUCKEYE .colleges dont give away scholarships for no reason. and hey i think if metcalf was a senior in highschool he whould move all the way down to 130 to avoid palmer and taylor then get beat by felipe martinez. GO BUCKS and IOWA STATE
The point here is... you can say all you want about the accomplishments of these two wrestlers in there high shcool career which is fine. but when it comes down to athletic ability , strength , and being a pure wrestler , i just dont see it in either of them at the next level. I mean honestly all you ohio supporters are making statements like these are the best wrestlers ever to wrestle in high school... could you imagine them wrestling a guy like metcalf they would get crushed and all of you people talk them up like they are on that elite level.. its distingusting. cut the crap already.
First time I've seen either wrestle. As they become stonger and man like, they will win a lot of college matches. Hard to see them as even all- Americans as freshman. In two years after development would be great to see them compete again. Now a rematch could still go either way.
David taylor is a Fighter to the end, not taking away anything from Palmer because that first takedown he hit was bad. Both wrestlers will do great in college. Taylor is an absolute scrambler from bottom, and he is a finely tuned athlete.
Buckeye #1, i to am an avid OSU fan, but i have to agree with Mr. Double, its the kids future let him decide where to go, be a fan of the sport and be happy Ohio still kicks butt in this sport, when you say stupid stuff like that you make us look like idiots
i was at that match and the match up was so intense. the crowd really got into it. it is insane how good both of them are. you should have seen palmer's dad when he got a take down on taylor he just went crazy with excitement.
This was the best match to attend in HS wrestling history of the world the atmosphere in the gym was electric and the class of the 2 wrestlers off the charts what a privelage to attend thank you david taylor and collin palmer two true champions
This is the only time that two 3 time ohio state champs have ever met. It happens to be 2 of the biggest names in ohio wrestling. Who happen to be wrestling for the two best teams in ohio, at the biggest dual meet in ohio. Taylor is the only 4 time iron man champ ever, obviously if you knew anything about wrestling you would know that palmer is certainly no slouch either. This match was a huge deal to a lot of people. It;s a damn good reason to celebrate.
This match was AWESOME for high school wrestling, and is exactly what the sport needed. What a great match, classy on both sides, two great programs. Good luck to both wrestlers.
Both of these guys are gonna be successful wrestlers at the next level. Yea there gonna get beat. ( Moronic and ignorant statement if you think ppl think taylor will go undefeated throughout college) Sanderson did the unthinkable and it will probably never happen again.
unreal....baby. ! Great match up. Ali v. Frazier. Hairs on my arm r up. A postcard for what high school wrestling is all about. Martin u da mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!
I didn't like the quick stalemate at 2:14.. Palmer looked defeated at 6:40 and 7:25.. And I didn't like the stalling call on Taylor in the third. Just an amazing match!!
I'm going to take taylor over the gman as some has reffered to him! I just dont think hes from ohio thats why hes going to win. Just because he didn't go wrestle the olympics or college tournaments dont mean anything, where was the gman when taylor went to the worlds in china? I'm sure the gman would have walked right throught the worlds. Lets just let the 2 wrestle at sr. nationals! Or is the gman not going?
Man, I have seen some great ones over the years, some great guys move up a weight class to electrify the fans and media alike. Jeff Prescott moving up to 126 to face then #1 ranked Terry Brands, Nate Carr moving up to wrestle Jim Zaleski in a fierce duel meet rivalry between ISU and Iowa back in the day, and then one night Oklahoma State bumped 2 All Americans up a weight class to take on Royce Alger and Rico Chiapperelli (future NCAA champions). All of these great wrestlers who bumped up lost, some were obliterated. I was shocked to see David Taylor move up and win this match and I must admit that I picked Palmer to win rather easily. What a great day for wrestling!
It is a shame that we, as fans, are not treated to these type of match-ups more often especially with all the great talent in every weight division in Ohio. I believe these days coaches and wrestlers are so hung up on records, statistics, and overbearing parents' demands, that they shy away from these types of "dream match-ups." What coach wants to convince his multiple time state champion who may have an unblemished record to bump up a weight class (or two!) to take on another top gun wrestler to give the fans a dream match-up but face the music if his wrestler loses. I believe this fear, along with the lack of duel meets these days as everything has gone tournaments, keeps us fans from enjoying these types of dream match-ups more often. A shame for the fans, a shame for the sport, but last night gives hope that more wrestlers and coaches in the future will set aside records and stats for a moment, take a page out of David Taylor's book, and give the wrestling community more dream match-ups. Thanks Flo for being there and bringing this great match between two of the nation's greatest wrestlers to the fans.
The Logan Stieber - David Taylor match was indeed a great one. I do not feel it was as exciting as Taylor vs. Palmer, only because of one wrestler leaving his weight, and "bumping up" to face another 3x state champion, also ranked #1 in the nation.
I think the Logan Stieber - David Taylor match was a better then this, logan had control and was wrestling well all the way through in the 2006 Ironman finals. If those two wrestled again that would be an amazing match.
just because someones from florida doesnt make him any less of a wrestler ive seen plenty of kids from florida whip on kids from pa,nj,ohio it really doesnt matter until they wrestle so get off taylors that was a great match though
far better to dare mighty things to win glorious triumphs even when checkered by failure than to rank with the poor spirits who neither enjoy or suffer much because they live in a gray twilight that knows neither victory or defeat - teddy roosevelt - no losers walked off that mat!
I think that it was a great match and the head ref did a great job. But the assistant ref would not be allowed to ref a league tourney in my association. He must have wanted to make sure he got his camera time. He needs to review the positioning in the rule book. He took away from me watching the match and instead watching him screw up his positioning the entire match.
matmaniac said: this is exactly why I think Taylor will beat the G-boy from florida...Out of all the matches I've seen eric garajels wrestle he only uses his brute strength and shows very little heart. Plus he is either the real deal (eric) or this seems to be NO competion in Florida these days Taylor is way more techniqal and shows big time heart even when he was down in this match! If eric would beat him I would be a bit suprised...
Tremendous win for Taylor!
If E v D happened tomorrow, I gotta go with E. I def. wanna see it, but I would not be surprised to see Grajales major Taylor. Grajales is just too much. UM and ISU... please schedule duals now.
The good news is both of them will be in college next year and will meet at Vegas, Midlands, Reno, or Nats. So this whole argument will be settled in about a year. That gives all the original Ohio comebacks like, "he's from Florida" or “he doesn’t wrestle anyone” a little longer. I am not sure but I didn’t see Taylors name on any Olympic or College tournament sheets over the past year. Let me see if I can come up with something in reverse…here you go, Ohio State Football sucks, but that’s because there from Ohio and not Florida right? Come up with something new, “Ohio”, how has “Ohio” done against Florida teams lately??? Losers. Great Match, Taylor and Palmer both looked great and were class acts.
I must say that this adds to the resume of David Taylor being the best High School wrestler(maybe even junior high as well) that Ohio has seen. Even if he would have came up short I still believe he is the best because of his SUPERIOR attitude and technique. Some of the greats imo are Alan Fried, Tom Milkovich, Jordans and Schlatters
I want to see the match as well. I really have no clue who would win the match, all I know is it would be a good one. I kinda just get tired of people saying eric isnt any good because he is from Florida. Taylor is a beast because he works harder than the rest, not just because he is from Ohio. Ohio is a tougher wrestling state, but that doesnt mean Taylor is better just because he is from ohio and eric is from florida..........thats all i am saying
We saw this at Super 32's with Taylor. He withstands the early storm, then his superior conditioning and technique take over. That first take down by Palmer was SICK. Most wrestlers would have been badly rattled by that. Boom--got ya. But not Taylor. He got his scrambling and offense going, and by the third period, he was totally in control, while Palmer faded. Great match.
Miller I understand what you are saying, but I don't think the G man is beating all the top ranked kids on just strenght, I kinda feel it is an insult to the kids he has beat like,
Andrew Alton-Jr, Central Mountain, PA
Ian Paddock-Sr, Warsaw, NY
Eric Spjut-Sr, The Woodlands, TX
Tony Ramos-Sr, Glenbard North, IL
Josh Kindig-Jr, Blue Mountain, PA
These are just kids I know he has beat from this summer on.
I agree 100% that there is no competition in Florida for the g man. The thing is he wrestles out of Florida every year at all the big tournaments and wins. The kid must have tech because he won a college tournament and he couldn't just use brute strength to win it. I think it would be one close match. The facts do show eric has wrestled tougher competion from the summer to this point this year. They both wrestle tough competion, and they both look for the toughest kids to wrestle. As for his heart, I think bumping up to wrestle Alton #1 140 pounder shows what kind of heart the kids has. That and him trying to make the olympic team wrestling those guys shows his desire to wrestle the best.
If I had to choose the toughest wrestling states it would be...
1.PA 2.OHIO 3.IOWA 4.NJ 5.CA 6.MN 7.FL
of course competion wise but great wrestlers come from everywhere...
this is exactly why I think Taylor will beat the G-boy from florida...Out of all the matches I've seen eric garajels wrestle he only uses his brute strength and shows very little heart. Plus he is either the real deal (eric) or this seems to be NO competion in Florida these days Taylor is way more techniqal and shows big time heart even when he was down in this match! I don't agree but at least that has some substance to it. I have seen the match and taylor worked him pretty good. They were both in 8th grade, fun match to watch. Now at least we can debate about something reasonable. I say the g man is better because he beat andrew alton 8-5 who beat palmer. Honestly I wouldnt bet my life either way.
Tell Andrew Alton the #1 140 punder in the nation that, cause he is from Pa and I am pretty sure the G man found a way to beat him. I just don't want to hear Taylor is better because he is from Ohio, thats pretty stupid. If you think Taylor is better because thats what you think cool, but because he is from a tougher state is dumb, and it shows the ignorance of people who don't keep up with the world of wrestling and just keep up with there home state.
Taylor is an extremely good wrestler, that being said it's a toss up betwween him and Grajales. Nah, by the way Grajales has wrestled the tougher comp in the last year and a half. Remember he went to Fargo while Taylor did not. And the g man won a college tournament this year, which I believe is tougher than winning one big match in a day. Also, don't forget all the tough greco tournaments the g man went to en route to being ranked in the top ten in the United States. Did I mention that the g man beat the guy ranked ahead of collin at 140 this year 8-5. But Taylor does wrestle in Ohio so there you go.
Hey LambertSis...............! How are things in chi-town? Glad ya watched on-line.
All I can say.....amazing. Even turning you computer speakers as loud as possible, isn't enough.
Taylor by far the superior wrestler here!! You can tell Palmer hasn't had any competition so wasn't ready for this challenge. Thanks flo wrestling for getting this out there for us out of towners to be able to jump up & down too.
Not at all impressed. Taylor is a good basic wrestler, that is excellent on top. Palmer is weak in the same position Taylor is best at. Again alot of hype about nothing. See Taylor winning HS Natl and Palmer possibly but likely placing.
Awesome match, super officiating, super sportsmanship, and great atmosphere. Congratulations Ohio Wrestling and which ever colleges get these two young men.
Great match -- thanks Flo for posting it. Palmer hit a very quick, slick duck for a takedown early, but Taylor never lost his cool at all. Down 4-3 to start the 3rd, he establishes great base, gets hand control and easily escapes and hits a great takedown. Palmer tried a shrug but Taylor had his right hand and he ended up giving Taylor a great angle for a quick double right on the edge -- very sweet. The tilt at the end was very nicely done too. I was eager to see them go -- both are the real deal.
Absolutely fantastic!! Thank you Flo!!!!!!! Congrats to both of these fine young men for putting on 6 minutes of intense, edge of your seat, (did I mention intense??) wrestling. This one will be talked about for decades.
Amazing. Awesome. What a great match-up for the state of Ohio, and an even better match-up for the sport of wrestling! Thanks Flowrestling for uploading it!
this is what it would look like if you wrestled me jesus!!!!
