I think Wrastlingfan is on the right track. The way the rules are now in free/greco the tough guy doesn't have time to wear a guy out or the the time to recover from a mistake. Now it is get a point and stall. When we had the 5 minute period, the Iowa style was effective. Not now.

Im with ya on those fuzzy little foreniegners Tom. Why dont we see
if they want to come to US and wrestle us folk style we would not have to watch to them dance and kiss each other in the isles Ha Ha . On the serious side of things I think we learned (with the help of flow) alot from these olympics. Its tough getting a kid from folk style to freestyle without alot of mat time and the little tricks to this style.But I think a attack style is what it takes to win. Offense is the best defense.

Although a very accomplished wrestler, Terry Brands is a terrible liablity for American wrestling. His tough guy Iowa approach to international wrestling is precisely the reason we continually get our asses handed to us by the Russians, Cubans, etc. It is high time the American coaches start teaching some technique by watching film on the Russians so we can actually take somebody down and win under the new rules.

There's that match in Toronto....There's one part where it looks like Brands is just gonna knock the guy out, but he restrains himself and just beats him on the mat.

I think USA Wrestling is lucky to have a guy like Terry in their (our) corner !!
