the 1976 olympic trials were held in cleveland ohio. after lee kemp beat dan gable he faced wade schalles. wade schalles gave kemp (1980 olympian boycotted by jimmy carter) his leg not once but twice and tossed him both times (air america). i think mr. schalles hurt his back or neck in that match but i don't rememberl if schalles finished the trials with his injury. this was backintheday when, if joe the plumber felt like he had a couple good ones left in him, he could go try out for the olympic team. what i saw that day was one of the most amazing wrestling matches i've ever seen. don't take my word on it, ask kemp, who was a great wrestler himself. and by the way, you sound skeptical about schalles's credentials which tells me that you don't know much about wrestling.
Wade actually broke his neck wrestling Stan Dziedzic in the Olympic finals trials. The story is in a book called "THE TRIALS" by James V. Moffatt. Excellent book. Schalles went on to win the university world games, two silvers in the world cup. Wade also made the world Sambo team and earned a silver in the world championships. Wade beat Kemp 4-2 in the olympic trials. This story is also in "The Trials" Don't know if he ever wrestled in the world championships or not?

Wrong. Say your in first grade in September of 2010. In September of 2011 is 2nd, Sept. 2012 is 3rd, Sept. 2013 4th... but May 2014 is also 4th. Still four years though.

Actually Wade is a four-time NCAA national champ. He was a champ in Div. 1 and Div. II competition. He also holds the Guinness World Records for most wrestling wins-831 and most wrestling pins 530. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

It's now been 40 years since he won that PIAA title with the pin over John "Bimbo" Chatman. Wade was down, then elevated, and before we had a chance to blink Chatman was flattened. John had never been beaten (120-0, including bouts since 7th grade). There will never be anything to equal this feat.

Saw Wade win his first NCAA title at Maryland-1972.

Wade has always come accross as one of the most intense, motivational individuals I have ever known. Who cares if he embelished a little about his mother's knowledge of Montreal '76 before the IOC even named it as a host city.....she probably also taught him to never let the facts get in the way of a good story, right? He's not too good at math though....4 years AFTER 1st grade is 5th grade not 4th....that is unless he was held back a year.
