High_hips is right...Metcalf, even if he ain't the absolute best, is gonna be hard to beat because he's simply relentless and has the conditioning to back it up. But the other 149ers can adjust. How? Primarily by conditioning. If anyone is gonna knock off Metcalf, they will have to get into shape (However, Caldwell will likely woop Metcalf no matter what shape he's in).

Kinda hard to adjust to someone thats on your butt the entire match... Metcalf tech. isnt what it needs to be but like i said, its hard to prepare for someone thats gonna be on you for 7 1/2 minutes...

Yep I agree with JPP. Metcalf is now target number 1. Eyes are off Schlatter, which will give Schlatter some breathing room to adjust. Caldwell will pin Metcalf again next year, hopefully in the NCAA finals.

No Kristie, we haven't been analyzing Metcalf for years. I assure you college wrestlers are not sitting around watching and analyzing high school wrestlers (except coaches looking to recruit). Now that he's finally competing in college and doing well, however, they will analyze him - just like they did with Schlatter. Remember, Schlatter was electrifying his debut year - "Unbeatable." But then his competition studied his moves then kicked his butt.

People have been analyzing him for years, doesn't seem to matter. They better do more than watch his tapes. He has never ran from any match or hid from any wrestler and I am sure he never will. I bet he is gald to have some competition.

Great wrestler! Wow! But he'd better watch out...as Schlatter found out, these college kids, um, duh, study, and they will analyze what he has been doing and adjust. That's exactly what they did with Schlatter. Schlatter didn't really get any worse, he just didn't change - but everyone else sure as hell did. So no doubt next year Caldwell will tune up. And Jenkins will, hopefully at least, go on a jog now and then and, um, get into shape or something. Jenkins seems to be technically as good as Metcalf, maybe stronger in some ways, but he's in horrible shape - at least comparted to Metcalf.

I have watched Brent wrestle since early on in Davison, much before high school and there has never been a question if he was a champion, we all new it here. If I was a wrestler i would hate to weigh 149!!!

I am so glad to see the Iowa way of wrestling back on top as it should be! No tricks no gimmicks, just out train your opponents in the room so that you can out work your opponents on the mat. Never give up attitude displayed by this young man!

metcalfisgay--- i don't see how you could make such an ignorant comment like that.. Im pretty sure this same Dbag won fargo six times and was a 4x undefeated state champ.
Also Metcalf has confidence going into the match, something everyone in the NCAA finals should have.

I think this guy did pretty well in front of the camera, in fact better than alot of professional athletes. I like that he found positive things to say about his competitors...shows some class. I wish him luck...I'm rooting for him tonight.... he's an outstanding athlete.

As Barry Davis, in my opinion, was Coach Dan Gable's first true protege, we are now watching Coach Brands' first protege, Brent Metcalf, in what he wants out of Iowa wrestlers in his sick and twisted mind.
