That score was much closer than the match was. Pendleton seemed to handle Askren & really make him look slow. I wonder if Jake Herbert watched this match before his final? Instead of using his quickness advantage, Herbert thought he could outfunk the funk meister.

Askren needs to be more aggressive and have a sense of urgency about him when he is behind. It looked like he was barely trying.
So with 40 seconds left, down 4 (5 counting RT), against arguably the best wrestler pound-for-pound in the country, getting one takedown is "barely trying"? Askren is not a particularly offensive-minded wrestler, he had less than 20 seconds to get two more takedowns to tie the match. Hardly anyone is going to pull that off. He was looking for an opening at the end, but diving forward for a leg is pointless against someone protecting a lead, especially someone as skilled as Pendleton. For all we know if Chris had done a backflip with time still on the clock, Ben might have pushed him Metcalf-style. Ok, that's a joke, but the rest was serious.

Pendleton is one of the most underated NCAA champs in history IMO! Man that guy could wrestle.

Jason, I don't buy them I trade for the most part, I've bout a couple of the older ones. Newer stuff I have I pulled off my TiVo. Believe it or not there's a small cult of people who collect stuff, most collect folk style only or FS only. You'd be surprised what college film rooms and HS coaches have in box in the closet. The problem is converting all them from VHS.

Han, i am with you on this one. Not sure if it was the footage or what but it seemed slow paced. We both know these wrestlers are both tough and a couple of the best, just seemed off.

han, what did i tell you? get off the message boards.. get to a near by wrestling club and start drilling double leg takedowns til i say stop.

once again you prove that you know nothing. both these guys have battled many times and are very aware of each others styles. big 12 finals and ncaa finals several times. in matches like these one mistake could be all it takes to win or lose.
dude, i was just stating a fact. i know pendleton and aksren have wrestled before, and pendleton was the only person who got in the way of askren potentially winning 4 titles. stop saying i don't know anything because i do. did i say they wrestled like crap? no. did i say funk didn't work here? no. great match, i was just saying it wasn't the most exciting match i'd ever seen. will you PLEASE stop trying to insult me?

is it just me, or was this a really "slow" match? not much explosion off the whistle, both wrestlers just seemed to take their time.

Couple reasons I picked this match, good solid pace, good neutral exchanges and I am a big fan of Pendleton's wrestling, there is some serious history between these two and Pendleton kinda shows some dominance over one of the better guys in the country regardless of weight that year.

Their probably most notable match was 2004 NCAA finals. I posted that one to the left as well.

Off Askren's shot Pendleton bounces Askren's head off the mat, ouch, this is the only way to beat the funk.
