Shawn Charles sums up the purpose of hell week perfectly at the beginning of the video. He didn't mention anything in reference to how fast or how strong these guys were gonna be after this week. He only spoke of their effort and heart, about how they guys that maintained were the ones who REALLY want to be a D-1 athlete. (Good lookin' out Doublej.)
they do hell week so they can weed out the weak ones and see who really wants to be on the team. they make it as hard as possible and try to break them
i hope they have some kind of exercise physiologist designing these, or at least collaborating... they're obviously hard, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're getting these guys in better shape.
the idea of a "hell week" for any sport is stupid. you don't get in shape in a single week. that takes months and years of consistent work... they should be gradually increasing intensity throughout the season and then tapering at the end for championships.
all that said... this will, if nothing else, make these guys tougher and more confident in themselves
Jared Stephens from John Glenn H.S., in Westland, Michigan is doing a good job during HELL WEEK at A.S.U. Stay in there and stick with it Jared, we at GLENN are with you brother
Great work flo. It is amazing to watch Robles. I have got to meet him a few times and he doesn't look at it as any different than what everyone else is doing. I know they don't treat him any differently, but just amazing.
As far as a great coach doing the workout with his team, I don't agree with that. A lot of great coaches have done their dues and they are now coaches. Plain and simple, they are not training and they have nothing more to prove than winning as a coach.
Good stuff and good luck ASU. Glad to see the resurrection of the program beginning.
On there 4th workout of Hell week Shawn Charles puts his Sundevils through a series of sprints up A Mountain. A mountian sits right next to campus at Arizona State University.

Awesome stuff. Thanks for doing what you are doing for wrestling!
