Lee Kemp defeats Dan Gable : Speakers & Interviews

Come on, stop making excuses. If he was strong enough to get on the mat he strong enough to take the loss. Excuses are for losers. Gable loss no if ands or buts.

It is great to be able to watch a match with two of our greatest US wrestlers! This is truly historic and should be viewed as such. It is so hard to compare wrestlers of the same generation let alone different eras. This match seems to show an exchange of eras...

how do you have a best all time conversation among us wrestlers without even mentioning Sanderson or a best in world discussion without mentioning saytiev or karelin. You all are ignorant of the true giants of the sport.

I've seen this video on another site, maybe Kemp's own site. This is at the 1975 Northern open. Gable has already won world and olympic titles a couple of years earlier. Lee is only a nineteen-year-old sopre. The same age Gable was when he had losses to Tom(?) Huff, Rick Sanders, and Bobby Douglas (before he got serious, he says). The only other soph I know of to beat a world champion (and it was the current champ) was John Smith in '86. Lee would certainly hang tough today with anyone. I always thought Gable was vulnerable to a number of wrestlers, but he certainly dominated during his prime. Could Gable beat Smith? It wouldn't seem so from this video..

Gable was injured for the match (pinched nerve in his neck), which weakened his strength in one of his arms. Plus, he was wrestling at a weight (158) above his own. Otherwise, he would have taken this one. Kemp was great, but not as great as Gable.

Gable and Kemp are so above anyone wrestling now it's not even funny. Dan was relentless and was very difficult to score on and Lee could score when ever he needed to and was near impossible to score on. I know every one thinks their generation was the best and I must admit that the generation of wrestlers right after Gable & Kemp was better, but none even compare today! Sorry, but it's just the facts. Look at the internationals results.

wow...i may be out of line...but although wrestlers like gable and kemp were great in there time, i don't think any of them would have a remote shot nowadays

Gable wasn't a technician, he was the ultimate grinder. His conditioning, intensity and relentless approach to wrestling was second to none. It took a wrestler of Kemp's determination and talent in the prime of his life to win a squeaker against Gable. John Smith is the BEST US wrestler in history. Gable is second, wins the Olympics without surrendering a POINT. Kemp's there. Baumgartner's there. Keaser is there. Sanderson is there.

my dad beat lee kemp in an open freestyle tournament right before college... so my dad is the best wrestler in history.... right?

Best for his time...I could name at least ten wrestlers that would destroy his technique, out of position. He had his time. Best ever,No!
