We are lucky to have brandon as one of our Olympic coaches.... i'll stand up and be counted as a big supporter.... I'd love to see him go just one takedown with 'red dog'... funny how the dog uses a pseudonym....the thing i hate about blogging is that people throw firebombs from the cloak of anonymity ... who are u red dog... how about make the slanderous accusations under your own name.... what are you scared of?

I'm actually impressed with this interview. Seems like a real good guy. He's real smart and was a total underdog from Nationals to Olympics. Maybe that's what our guys need right now - a more intelligent approach from a guy who was able to make strides in a short amount of time and who can effectively scout opponents to come up with strategy. I think Brandon can give it to them.

Red Douche, you're one of those losers that thinks anybody that has more athleticism or success than you has to be on something. LOL man you guys crack me up.

Martin--the comments by Red Dog"eroo" below are slanderous. If I were you, I would delete them. And someone posing as Ken Chertow? There need to be better controls on here. This goes without saying to those who are involved in wrestling and not simply interested in "stirring the pot," but Brandon didn't just win a gold medal--he beat what many people consider one of the best wrestlers in history. If he had stuck with competition, he would have won more--but our economic system does not incentivize staying in the sport as a competitor. Plus, what more was he going to accomplish? He won the gold and beat an all-time great in the process. Brandon would never agree probably, but I have personally seen that he is an awesome coach, having, on a part-time basis, coached multiple youth and high school national champions, worked tirelessly forming foundations, clubs, teaching clinics, giving hundreds of speeches, etc. I know of no one in the wrestling community who has given up more (what could be a very successful business career with his Wharton degree) and devoted more free time to wrestling. Brandon will bring his powerful confidence to the team--"For God has not given us the spirit of timidity, but of power and love and self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7

Despite my trash talking. Its sounds like a good plan, and he's a good speaker for an athlete. He doesn't say "ya know" every two seconds.

Brandon, If I saw you in the airport I would ask you to try and hit that double leg on me you are so good at. Then I'd pick myself up of the carpet and buy you a cup of joe at Starbucks. Keep up the good work.

You're out of line Red Dog. Slay is one of the most upstanding people I know. Unless you know something we don't you have no business attacking someone's reputation.

Red Dog - it's very unfortunate when someone like you, who is TOTALLY clueless regarding my lifestyle and how I trained (100% clean), makes ignorant statements like the one below. If you really care about wrestling and desire our sport to succeed, as I do, please, write/speak about issues you actually KNOW about or understand.

You have no clue who I am as person, and you have no clue how hard you have to work to win an Olympic Gold Medal. Actually, you have no clue who any of our top level wrestlers are as human beings, and really chaps me off that you would speak harshly about our top wrestlers who I spend 7 days a week training. You DON'T KNOW, and not knowing yet commenting is defined as ignorance.
Sadly, you write posts such as these with total ignorance. If you understood what it takes to be the best, which you clearly don't, you wouldn't make slanderous off base statements like you did below. Wrestling isn't baseball, and it clearly isn't body building. It's wrestling, and wrestling is very different. We have NEVER had one American wrestler test positive for steroids, and we are tested ALL the time. At 6am in the morning randomly, before tournaments, after tournaments, before the Olympics, and immediately after the Olympics.
Since I started wrestling 27 years ago, I have never seen steroids or taken them in any shape or form. My success came from a combination of God's providential blessing, mental confidence, and physical training that most humans will never ever understand.
I forgive you for your comments. Forgiveness is a one way street. Reconciliation is a two way street, and hopefully, you will have the courage to email me personally () so we can exchange numbers, and I can speak to you in depth about how our top level wrestlers train so you can at least appreciate what our top level athletes go though to reach the top. I trained very hard, and our top level guys train very hard. And, we don't deserve your classless accusations.

Just because people work hard and train 3X time a day at a world level pace does not mean they are juicing. Have you ever trained at the OTC with the likes of Terry Brands or somebody else like that??
Did you read about the Belgian Bodybuilding competition today? These guys have been saying the same thing, "We don't use anything, we do it the right way, we work harder than anybody, blah blah blah..." Here pal, read about these guys who train 5 times a day and have the most strict diets you can possibly imagine (they also get the really bad tans too):

BRUSSELS -- The Belgian bodybuilding championship has been canceled after doping officials showed up and all the competitors fled.
A doping official says bodybuilders just grabbed their gear and ran off when he came into the room.
"I have never seen anything like it and hope never to see anything like it again," doping official Hans Cooman said Monday.
Twenty bodybuilders were entered in the weekend competition.
Cooman says the sport has a history of doping "and this incident didn't do its reputation any good."
During testing of bodybuilding events last year, doping authorities of northern Belgium's Flanders region found that three-quarters of the competitors tested positive.

They FLED!!! If you don't believe guys like Joe Williams and Brandon Slay and other high level wrestlers, yes, even from other countries, aren't juicing especially in this day and age where this stuff is being exposed daily in much more passive non-combative sports like baseball, then pardon my French, you are BLIND or just plain stupid.

Great interview and I love Brandon Slay, watched him in his days at Penn! I hope Slay not only introduces our guys to all of his great on and off mat techniques to raise their level in order to compete for World medals but that he also introduces them to his wide array of performance enhancing drugs he used in order to achieve his lofty goals. I guess he just figured the only way to defeat 'Roid head Joe Williams was to get his dirty hands on better junk. If you can't beat them, join them I guess. I know this post will probably get deleted and that even the mention of our athletes using performance enhancing drugs is taboo but I don't care, MLB is ruined because nobody had the guts to speak out enough about it in the early days and now the game and stats have been forever tainted. Doesn't Caminiti and Canseco look like geniuses now? I don't want that to happen to our sport bc everybody thinks these genetic freaks are all doing it clean, get real!
