We have been to the Chertow camp in Florida 4 years running....great technique work, and they work the kids butts off with drilling and live wrestling and just lots of intensity. Ken was a great wrestler - his record speaks for itself, but his real strength is his incredibile energy, how smart he is and his ability to articulate great details in a way everyone understands. For those throwing negative comments....I agree with a prior poster....you are working too hard to put him down. Obviously a hidden agenda or some other issue, but I will go by my experiences over 4 years rather than some biased comments on the internet.

Former Camper   July 1 at 9:46pm
i went to his camp and hated it, but i do believe it helped my wrestling. I just didnt like the staff i think. I went to the camp at lawrence academy by the way. Chertow was a great guy though. Vlady, iona prep guys, and brewster i didnt like though. Although brewster was clearly a better coach than almost everyone else, brewster was a , to put it bluntly. Overall, i dont think i would recommend the camp nor would i recommend against it.

Hi,
Two of my kids just finished the Florida Camp. Chertow and his staff did a great job. They were good on technigue and motivation. There was no signs of a hangover anywhere. They showed up early and bright eyed.

Ken did a great job at the Florida camp - brings a lot of energy, solid clinicians (Nate Carr, Toney Davis, Casey Brewster and Jeff Ragen). Not sure why all the negativity....Ken flat knows his stuff...when you watch his instructional DVD's he provides tons of detail and is very easy to follow. When Ken walks in a room you feel the energy - he is an amazing teacher - guess a few of you had a bad experience and have an axe to grind but it sounds like you are working too hard to spew venom. PS...questioning his credentials....let's see....State champ, double Fargo champion, midlands champ, all american and Olympian...lighten up and get over it guys!

Hey, why isn't any of his major matches on here? Oh yeah! Because he got his ass kicked when it mattered, and he probably would pull them anyway.
Any time you speak to this jerk, he looks at you like he is obviously better than you and that you're not worth his time.
Ken Chertow is Money first, Business second, Showmanship third, and Wrestling fourth.
And he parades that picture of his celebration after his defeat over an almost retired Barry Davis which just makes me sick to my stomach.
Do you think Lee Kemp puts his picture of defeating Gable on everything he has? NO. Do you think Kendall Cross parades a picture of kicking Ken's ass at the World Team Trials? NO.
Ken Chertow is a pompous, disgusting prick who is a "self-proclaimed legend." This isn't even in the same category of wrestling as Gable, Smith, Carr, Baumgartner, Sanderson etc. Sure, he pays them some big dough so they come by his joke of a camp and put on a Ken Chertow t-shirt for 24 hours.
Did he have success at wrestling? Of course he did.. so did every other Olympian and All-American. So he was an All-American at a Big Ten School. Great. He and about a million other people.
There are so many more people out there that can give you great, useful information about the sport without looking at you like you're not worth their time.
This gives wrestling a bad name

Wow What A Post   July 6, 2008 at 9:17pm
This guy is a moron. I really don't understand why you would even waste your time or money on this lunatic. I remember about 10 years ago when this camp was actually intense.. now, especially this past summer, this camp is like a friggin day camp for punk kids (and Chertow Staff). Some of the kids that go to Chertow's are talented, but they sure as hell didn't learn a lick from Kenny Chertow himself. He likes to throw out that he has all these clinicians and world class staff to individually work out with the campers, but most of the time his whole staff is either drunk or hungover. I took my kid last summer, and all I got was a egotistical prick showing videos of himself and a hungover 21 year old staff member showing a low leg single. Its a pretty sad scene because you pay hundreds of dollars (thousands if you buy into his BS), and you get drunk college kids that have no energy in the mornings, and a maniac Dave Schultz wannabe who says "Hey look at me, look how great I am" I seriously just wanted to punch him. His little side-kick or whatever his role is (the short buzzed guy) was more involved than Chertow was. Take some advice! Don't get caught up in Chertow's camp.
We're goin to Gable-Brands camp this year, baby

Please leave the negative comments out of here because im pretty sure you were not an olympian, or an NCAA All-American. You probably were not even a state champ, but of course you know everything about Ken Chertow and how much better you are than an olympian.

As a parent of a kid who attended Ken Chertow's camp in Florida last year I was highly impressed with both Coach Chertow and his staff. I spent 5 days at camp rooming with my son and did not notice any incident with the staff. On the contrary, the staff was highly motivated and helped my son greatly. From what I know of Ken, he would not tolerate drinking. Ken taught most sessions and showed some great stuff. Thank You to Ken and his staff for helping my son a lot last summer.

Big difference between high school and college level wrestling. In a college match, your opponent is likely to have multiple counters to your moves and so it pays to capitalize on the high percentage opportunities your opponent gives you; or thoughtfully create some of your own opportunities. However, when it's time to go....GO, on the rivet baby!

Ill-will toward a human being created in God's image and likeness may destroy the soul and interior life of the person willfully harboring or willfully feeding such sentiments. Whether Ken Chertow ever received the grace of a Christian Baptism or not, he still has a certain dignity as being created by God. If he is Jewish, he has a certain dignity as being part of the Chosen People.

Ken is a great coach. I'll never forget learning from him the importance of drilling moves with extreme aggression instead of just going through the motions in practice. I think that in an indirect way this is training your brain to get into a wrestling mentality out onn the mat, and it really shows in a real match.
