If matches like this was brought to the public, wrestling would easily be top four most popular sports. Throwback thursday's should be a TV show

Ryan, I spelled Hendricks name wrong they were just busting my chops as always. If I knew how to spell I'd maybe be doing something other than flo wrestling all day.

I think they're talking about the peterson and Perry was getting turned. Could have been 2 backs for sure.

Better man won that day, but a great match from one of my favorite hawkeyes!

Mark Perry, new Asst Coach at Cal Poly. Take a strong look at some CA programs ya'll. CP, Fullerton, Davis, Bakersfield, Stanford. Great kids from instate recruited. Watch out for Ian Daube working with Perry.

No Fools, Johnny Hendricks, Okie St. 2x National Champ, Just won a UFC fight last week. I'm pretty sure Hendricks was 9-0 agains Perry going into the 2007 NCAA finals when Perry won.

I agree in the 2nd period that Churella had 2 NF. He also should have gotten1 for an illegal head scissor. This was not a draping scissor. The NCAA rule 5.8.1
illegal holds says: Head scissors ( even though the arm is included). You would've thought at least the asst ref Tann would've spotted this.

A down year for Iowa with only 1 guy in the finals and not battling for the team title or even the top 3. There were several solid finals bouts but this one by far doubled the excitement. Dan Gable got more excited in the announcers booth than I've ever seen. The intensity on Mark Churella's face scares me 4 years later still.

Little History
Great 1 vs. 2 seed final. Perry known for his leg riding and funk, Ryan Churella continuing the Churella legacy through the Michigan program his father (Mark 3 time NCAA Champ)laid before him. Perry coming into this bout a red shirt freshman coming off a heralded HS career finishing up at the famed Blair Academy.

Perry ended up a 2 time NCAA champion and 4 time AA only winning the Big Ten’s one time in his career, which goes to show how deep the Big Ten’s are. On the other end of the spectrum Ryan was a 3 time Big Ten Champion and 3 time AA never taking a national title but did make the finals in 2006.

ENJOI!

Some of the best top / bottom scrambles you'll find in a finals match of any kind. Both guys going 160MPH with their hair on fire for 7. Ryan had a previous victory over the Perry coming into the final. Perry made the NCAA finals losing to Hendricks this year and Ryan ended up 4th.
