Tony Buxton showed the move well and explained it well, the move works when executed well, and Tony clearly prefaced it by showing that you use it after opponent already beat you with deep penetration- a what now situation. Many of us have seen this in freestyle matches and if you have then you can visualize this as a linking move in a scramble, perhaps not the finishing move, but a reasonable way to continue to defend after someone has already beat your defense.
Congrats to Tony on being accepted to Harvard where I am sure he will accomplish several worthy life goals.
Brandon Han, askren's funk doesn't usually work? Your such an experianced coach, have you seen his dvd's? The funk that he teaches are basically simple leg passes off of different shots/positions. Funk done right isn't wild scrambling, it's a series of moves which take you from a poor situation to a takedown.

I thought I was logged in before and wanted to enter it correctly. It isnt courteous to blog comments anoymously.

wow i see funks work all the time you obviously haven't seen very many matches in your lifetime or you are a complete tool because the funk has become a very common defense
uh no i don't bad mouth everyone on here, i'm just giving my opinion. I'm a coach, i watch way to much wrestling on youtube and other sites, such as flo. i've seen tech that i think works and tech that i don't think works, and then there's always trial and error, which for me, the funk system doesn't work, and i've seen it work very few times, sorry if it seems like i'm bad-mouhting askren, i'm just saying his style doesn't always work.
every funk roll i've seen has either failed or they've just ended up in a bigger scramble. i've seen it work maybe 3 times perfectly.
thanks..if you like the move good if you dont like it shut up
but if you call this funk, it's pretty awesome, unlike that "funk roll" stuff ben askren pulls that 95% of the time doesn't work, even for him.

Red Dog, go ask Brent Metcalf if funk works... pry sure his finals match wasnt "low level college or hs" level, some ppl are just great at funk and putting themselves and their opponent into positions as to which they can score from it... As Buxton shows here. L2wrestle chief, obvisouly u kno little of high lvl wrestling!
Tom Brands did this in his match against Joe Gilbert at 6:18.
that this kid is ranked over a lot of wrestlers in the country that would beat him up, because his dad is the coach of blair.
