I'm a huge fan of Martinez. Martinez did win this match. I do feel that Ramos is the better wrestler overall though. Martinez had a better day and will probably have a way better career than Ramos in the long run. This is one of those things that is going to haunt Ramos though.

So I guess if Ramos would have tried to improve his position from Martinez's ride & got caught in a tilt, would Felipe still have been "stalling"? I guess none of the "haters" have learned how to wrestle a solid, fundamental match yet. The poise of this kid as a freshman is extremely impressive. The future continues to look bright for SPG.

Martinez is a true "Mat monkey" trying to control him would be like wrestling a tornado! He has great instincts.

Tony Ramos. I can't believe Iowa gave him a scholarship. To a very good wrestler, no doubt, however, to a rather over-confident y guy won't even consider trying to ride his oppenent.

You can't just go neutral in college, you have to try and ride your guy, especially since their's a reward for it.

I am just curious because this freshmen looks good beyond his years. Is he one of these 16 yr old freshmen? Check the birth certificate. He did some really smart stuff in that match.

that may be true, but remember that wrestling isnt about 100% takedowns. How many times have youve been taken down or seen someone taken down by a new guy when they shouldnt have? thats what the par terre is for, to redeem those points. thats why felipe won, well rounded and just a straight beast :D

Wow the Frosh owned him, sick, sick, sick, sick, "Lucky" Bearhug, I don't understand how shooting in and asserting your will upon someone is lucky? This was smart, yet dominant wrestling on Felipe's part, how can holding someone down, and controlling them for a better part of 3 minutes be considered "Lucky"? I need answers!

Wow, that is an ignorant comment about JJ, socal. Why would a wrestler who is good, go somewhere where the coach is not good?

The "good" go where their are other "good". That way, the "good" get to compete and practice against other "good". That way, the "good" have a better opportunity to become "great"....................................................

Felipe in my opinion is the best freshman wrestler of all time.

To go in the toughest tournament in the nation..and to beat some of the most talented seniors at the weight is simply amazing.

Are you kidding me? The first takedown shouldn't have been anything whether he was on top of him or not he did not have any kind of control. Martinez controlled the match. That was not a lucky move. He shot a double came to a bear hug. Pretty basic actually. Kid knows how to ride to. College coaches should love this match.

exactly what I would do, trash talk to someone who just humiliated me before a over capacity crowd, wow! Martinez won this one fair and square, Ramos better figure some things out before he goes to Iowa City.

Riding time or not, if someone rides you out the whole period on any level, how many points do you earn for that?

felipe clearly stalled the hole second period after that 5 point move and tony ramos has beat villalonga like 4 to 5 times in high school
