True, it can have advantages, but can also have disadvantages. Ask Tommy Rowlands about shooting those John Smith like leg attacks on Daniel Cormier, what was the score, a tech-fall?

It takes more strength and power to execute moves against bigger opponents, hence, no freshman NCAA champs at heavyweight. This muscle maturity takes place over years. Look at the kids, even 17-19, that wrestle at 103-119, while possessing great technique, the jury remains out on them as to their ability to mature physique-wise, and become a solid D1 wrestler.

Oh my god!! Clearly he knows what is going on more than the Olympic coaches. If they tell Stephen he needs to stay off the mat i would guess he probably needs to stay off of the mat. I agree with the first comment, seems like he is kinda full of himself.

if you have someone who wrestled since they were little and gain all their experience as a lightweight it has many advantages when you hit a growth spurt...Cael did have a huge weight jump in high school which had to have helped him...he did not win everything as a lightweight and as he become bigger became unstoppable

Not to take anything away from beating Sanderson, but wouldn't Sanderson have been a freshman when Abbas was a senior?

Typical small man comment, the bigger you get the easier it gets. Another wrestling myth. Just because there are more kids at 112 than at 160 means it's easier at 160? Please. Look at the studs at 160 this year vs 112 or 119. Which group would you want on a D1 team? The best high school wrestlers over the past 10 years have consistently been between 140 and 171 pounds. Look at the guys Cael beat to win his titles vs Abas. Eggum is world silver, Cormier World medalist/Olympic team member. The best Abas beat were Hunter and Strittmatter. How many grown men weigh 121. Oh, I know, the best big people in the US play football and basketball, eeeehhhh, wrong again. Does anyone really think Yao Ming would make a good wrestler? Take BBallers out. Football? take anyone over 300 out. Now, do we seriously believe every guy in the NFL between 170-300 would be a great wrestler? If so, then we can assume every gymnast, soccer player, track/xcountry runner, tennis player, yadayada yada, would make a great lightweight. Dinosaur thinking like this is what kills wrestling, and may have helped kill your program. BTW, you don't need to tell us how much cash you gave Stephen, just stating you supported him is enough. Sounds self serving to get into detailed figures.
