Some people were able to stay a half step ahead of the testing methods and test clean. The testing would catch up and people would have to come up with another trick. The people that don't cheat and still win are amazing competitors. Someday science will stop all cheating.

All it takes is one quick blow to your chin or face area and you could be spitting teeth. But make sure you wear it everyday in practice, during running, everything so you are used to it and get acclimated to proper breathing when wearing it as it will feel restrictive in the first few weeks.

Dude, how the heck do you whether these guys were taking performance enhancers (steroids or HGH) during their lengthy careers? Who the heck were you, a personal 24/7 guard assigned to them where they weren't permitted out of your sight? You mean to tell me with all the scandals going in MLB today that guys are now admitting that they have been juicing since the early 90s, you are absolutely 100% certain these behemoths in this video (who were chiseled out of granite competing in one of the toughest most physically demanding combative sports in the world) have never used roids? Are you being funny? Now I understand why Hitler's henchman, Herman Goering, once said, "To control the masses is easy, simply make them afraid of somebody or something, ANYTHING, and they will do EXACTLY what we want them to do. The masses are brainless." Here is yet another example of this shining statement coming to fruition in 2009. Folks, with all that we now know about the steroid epidemic plaguing not only MLB but the NFL, NBA, and thousands of high schools and colleges across the nation, we must assume that everybody is or has used them unfortunately. To try to make determinations whether somebody is on them or is not is foolish. Just assume 100% of them are doing it and you will live a better quality of life. kerr nor angle were not taking steriods at the time of this match nor at anypoint in there collegiate and freestyle careers. That being said Kerr did develop an addiction for pain killers (not steriods) when he was competing in Pride/UFC and who knows what angle was taking during his professional wrestling careers(not going to say b/c I have no clue).

i've seen the film and it was excellent. are you saying that kerr and/or angle were using steroids at the time this match occurred? if so, where are you getting your info?

angle was 286 (heavyweight) but he was undersized for that weight class.

what weight did angle wrestle in ncaa college? what about kerr?

Rather than a clinch or a referee's decisiion, I'd prefer an unlimited over time, as they used to do in some Canadian tournaments. Might take an hour with these guys though...

BTW I'll second the request for the Brands/Dabir match, or any Dabir match really.

I wanted to watch Kerr for 2 reasons: One, he was a champ at Syracuse and they absolutely need a D1 team again... Someone who is in the know please explain what, if any progress has been made on this front and secondly - The Smashing Machine was my first exposure to the MMA. Kerr had a very serious drug issue in the film and it was recorded shamelessly. The movie is disturbing (but incredibly compelling) both for the painkiller addiction and the gruesome brutality of the pre UFC days when this was a fatal hobby for freaks... You used to be able to knee your opponents skull from the ground and Kerr almost killed a number of opponents. Get this film and lunch lightly.

yea, what's up with the 'roid accusations? kurt was constantly drug tested and he was not big for 100 kg. check out some of his college matches.

Great match.I agree that the clinch i still an improvement. Maybe 3periods, 3minutes each, with a clinch at the end,to add conditioning into it. Finally, I wish people would stop throwing steroid accusations out there. Our sport is dying as it is. Spreading rumors in no way helps it.

The clinch sucks, but it's better than the referee's decision. So Angle won his world team trials match, his world finals match, and his Olympic finals match... all by referee's decision? The officials must have loved him:)

This week I am choosing the deciding 220 lb match at the 1995 World Team Trials held at Drexel University between 1995 World and 1996 Olympic Champion Kurt Angle and 1992 NCAA Champion and future UFC star Mark Kerr.

Why I chose this match:

Well, since there is only the Jadidi Olympic match floating around, a bunch of people had requested some more Kurt Angle matches and when the people speak I listen. I have more than a few and tried to come up with the best ones. The problem is that most of his matches, and this one is no exception, were decided by referee's criteria. What this means to our younger audience is that in 8 minutes of wrestling neither wrestler was able to score the required 3 points to win the match outright. Wait, I mispoke, he actually scored the third point on the Turk at the 95 Worlds on the buzzer. Sorry. But he did win the finals against the German by ref's criteria. Still can't figure that one out.

This was a difficult decision for me. Here's another match of Angle's won by referee's criteria. At least we get to see Kerr pick his front tooth up off the mat.

There were actually some decent flurries in this bout.
