Do you have the '04 semi match that Sajidov lost to the Korean?

No I am not 100% sure. I had heard it was this one:

Could have been both.

Are you sure? This is the one I had always heard about the Cuban throwing.

Isn't this the match where it was rumored the Cuban threw the match because he got a large pay off from the Russians?

PA, Yes that is the Russian who defeated Cael in the World Finals. Great match and actually Cael Sanderson got a huge break in the match but the Russian prevailed. As an aside, Sajidov would later be upset in the semifinals of the Olympics by the South Korean whom Cael defeated rather handedly.

I like this match, the styles contrast well. Funny, Yoel reminds me of myself, and some of the other wooster wrestlers from my day . . . kinda like a less polished John Smith :)
Huh? Did you actually say that Romero and former Olympic and multiple World Champion John Smith remind you of yourself? I assume off the mat you are talking about because unless your name is Kenny Monday or Sergei Beloglazov, I think it is time to take a huge step back, take a few valiums (or 100) and remember who you and your rag tag team of wooster wrestlers are and where you stand in thw great game of life.

The ref is wearing socks. Oh, and the Cuban has awesome stuff, but kept stopping short of finishing his shots.

the cuban couldn't finish his leg attacks and the russian could. that was the difference.

The sequence from 3:06-3:13 was pretty amazing. I wish that I had the ability to both attack and defend that way.

looks like these two were no longer afraid to lose and just wanted to get their frustrations out. What a match!

Welcome to this week's installment of my own Match of the Week.

This week I am choosing the 84 kg Bronze Medal bout at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens between 2003 & 2006 World Champion Sajid Sajidov of Russia and 1999 World Champion Yoel Romero of Cuba.

Alls I have to say about these guys is 'wow.' They really get after it the entire match. I can't believe Sajidov's defense. The guy's amazing.

Enjoy.
