at the end of senior year winston and cubberly wrestled again i forgot what tournmant though a big tournament neither of them won the tournament or placed but i remember winston beat cubberly i think 4-1
yeah cubberly beat him at the begginning of their senior year in highschool..and winston won senior nationals while cubberly got third..and he's done much better this year!!! so let the wrestling do the talking
well, cubberly got packed a few times this year....i dont think scotty would get packed on his worst day...caught once in a year ok, but cubberly got it a few times...hmmmmm
i agree with ac...winston will definitely aa this year...he has the drive and technique, he just has to puch the issue more in that third period instead of holding on....
winston looked decent...the only thing is in that 3rd period he was just hanging on wrestling not to lose instead of to win....he was more worried about keeping control of kessler instead of trying to turn him ....guys like poeta, leen, etc. would not be worried about keeping him down as much as putting him on his back...you can see a few times where kessler was scrambling on botton and winston was just kinda following him, pausing and waiting for kessler to make his next move instead of taking charge and breaking him down looking for a pinning combination
Mike Kessler is a state champ from Owings Mills, Md. He wrestled for that great state championship Owings Mills junior league team that included Binder (NJCAA All-American), Jason Jacovsky (state champ), David Jacovsky (DI wrestler for U. Md.), Rob Cooper (2x state champ), Mike Cooper (state placer), Broadwater (NCWA Nat. Champ), Jason Lanciotti (state placer), Steve Lanciotti (DI wrestler for Drexel), the Nash brothers (all state placers), Jamal Lawrence (Senior Nat. Champ), Mike Lawrence (state placer), Mack (state champ), Owen Smith (DI wrestler for U. Md.), etc. It was one of the best groups of little league wrestlers I've ever seen.
All four Kessler brothers won state titles in high school. Steve Kessler went 148-0 and was Maryland's first four-time state champ. Gregg Kessler, a three-time state champ and now the coach at Archbishop Curley, also wrestled for Rider.
Mike Kessler also was the victor in one of the best high school matches I've ever seen in the finals of the MMM tournament against National Prep Champ Bryn Holmes of McDonogh.
It's good to see Mike doing so well at Rider. Wish he could have pulled this one out.
Yeah, he lost to Leen 4-0 this year. And I think he lost to Hall really because he couldn't escape in that match. But he's 32-6 as a true freshman, and that's pretty impressive.
I'm from nj big winston fan. He's not in the same league with Poeta or Leen or even fellow jerseyan Burroughs yet. But I don't think anyone in the weight his. He is a real threat as a true frosh to AA and that ain't too shabby.
You think Winston is slow footed? And his stamina is suspect? That's funny, I think he's quick feet and I've never questioned his endurance. I didn't see the match but I know with 15 seconds left in a 7 minute match he took Welch down to his back for a 5 point move. I guess in that match he had something left in the tank.
Winston sure has beautiful technique. But he's a little slow footed. And his stamina is suspect. Kind of reminds me of C.P. Schlatter. I don't know if he's a world beater.
