why dont all you welch people shut up because winston won senior natinals..and welch was a no show..so u cant say anything...

WInston learned it ain't so easy when you get with the big boys at NCAA...but he's still a tough hombre, there is no doubt...as I wrote elsewhere, I've gone live with him, and he's got mad skills and doesn't even use a quarter of his power and yet can kick ass...

so ur sayn welch isnt good because winston beat him? welch beat 2 guys this season that took out winston. you have to give welch his credit. and yes winston did beat welch, that's great whoopty doo! they both would whip all ur asses who doubt either of them. Winston beat a very tough welch, but don't knock welch cuz he is still a bad ass wrestler unlike you jokers. BTW, u JIZZY guys need to calm the hell down. ur wrestling is good but ur arrogance kills it. most of you guys who rep Jersey probably sux at wrestling but take the credit from other wrestlers accomplishments. next time u dis onther state, lets see ur cradentials!

P.S. Welch can out speed anyone with his takedown skills. he proved that when he took down Poeta number 1 ranked college wrestler at the midlands

Welch Would   July 31, 2008 at 3:32am
i know this is topic is discussed way too often but i can confidently say welch would win. i've seen both wrestlers wrestle not just on video but in person and welch is definitely quicker. more than that though, welch uses more set ups and has so much more versatility. if you look at winston, he hits straight attacks and snap downs. winston might be way stronger but at college level, everyone is strong. besides, if wrestling was all about strength then we would spend all our time in the weight room instead of the wrestling room. winston is good but welch has a lot more potential to grow and will likely do better in college

I am sick of hearing the Welch vs. Winston debate. People need to give both wrestlers their due. They're both incredibly talented. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. I just want to the see the match. Personally, I am rooting for Welch because I like his in-your-face-style but I can't say he's going to win.

Jason Welch would beat Scott Winston. It would be a close match, but i say the score would be 11-6. Because even though Winston is stronger than Welch, Welch is very well conditioned and would wear out Winston. Welch is very rough and aggressive, he can do 5 different moves into one. Just look at his match with Ogle of Gilroy in the CIF state! Look what he does in the video. He goes from a head-and-arm, to a underhook, to a two-on-one ancle pick!! Tell me that isn't just pure skill!

The whole Winston vs. Welch argument is only conjecture;however, after closely watching both of these very fine wrestlers for the last 2 years, I must agree with the contention that Welch would certainly defeat Winston. His nonstop offense and unorthodoxy would be a bit much for Winston to handle. A talent like Welch is a cut above most "Really Good" wrestlers--like Winston. This is not to say that Winston couldn't improve enough in college to defeat Welch...only time will tell,

Winston has lost to cubberly (who bosak beat in the semi's)at the super 32. Pre season yes but still a loss. I don't think bosak was trying to keep the match close. I think if the ref would have called stalling on winston and made him open up bosak may have scored. Yes, winston's high school career seems impressive, however, would it have been so if he lived and wrestled in Pennsylvania where kids who don't even make it out of districts and regions can beat state champs from other states. In PA it's a bloodbath just to make it to states. I remember when a wrestler named Mike Robinson from Lewistown, PA beat Mike Grey (at the time the #1 recruit in the nation) at the Beast. Mike Robinson made it to states, but never placed in Pennsylvania. Winston is also really physically mature. Next year he won't have that advantage. Regardless- they're both good wrestlers and I wish them both good luck at the next level.

2nd takedown wasn't a takedown-no control on Winston's part and Bosak was working on a funk. Puts the score at 2-0 going into the 3rd period. Amazing stall call- Bosak working on top and Winston just lying there. Stall point should have been given to Bosak not Winston. Score now 2-1. Who knows what would have happened with a good ref. The ref was terrible. Also in college remember Bosak would get points for riding time. All in all a great effort on Bosak's part considering Winston is ranked 2nd in nation. Bosak is ranked # 6 by WIN Magazine.

Bosak never even won a state title, and kept this match pretty dang close. Winston reminds me of CP Schlatter. Good technique with brute strength. CP won 4 titles in Ohio with one career OT loss. CP was a 1x AA in college, because strength doesn't mean as much in college. This ref was horrible. Match score was really 3-0. In college, it is 3-1 with RT.

Rutgers Not A Bad Choice   April 1, 2008 at 4:17pm
I don't think choosing Rutgers is such a bad choice. They had a very good recruiting season and Gooddale is going to start keeping home the NJ talent that is being taken by other schools. The EIWA is a solid conference and getting stronger every year. They've had at least 1 NCAA champ every year since '02 and '99 was the last year that they did not have at least one finalist. The conference had 11 All Americans last year and keep getting stronger. Just think if the following NJ wrestlers had gone to Rutgers; Joe Dubuque, Zack Esposito, Damion Hahn, Glenn Pritzlaff, Don Pritzlaff, Brett Matter,Matt Valenti just to name a few.

I DONT THINK WINSTON OR WELCH WILL WIN A NCAA CHAMPION. I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT WINSTON DOES. FIRST OF ALL HE PICK THE WRONG COLLEGE TO DO ANYTHING. WELCH HAS TO GET THROUGH A SEASON IN THE BIG TEN BEFORE CONSIDERING HE WOULD WIN A TITLE. ONE OF THESE GUYS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT WILL HAVE A BETTER CAREER. THEYRE BOTH AND A PRETTY DEEP WEIGHT CLASS AND ONE OF THE GUYS THAT MADE A WISE COLLEGE WILL WIN A FEW TITLES.

All four of these guys are going to get handled next year on occasion by the college boys anyway, and if you don't think so, you don't understand this sport very well.

Decent match, but I cant imagine either of these guys making a splash in their freshman year. Winston has near perfect technique, but is pretty one dimensional in his offense, doesn't capitalize on his opponent's missteps and create openings like he could. With his build and background however, he will possibly all american by his junior year, too bad he's in the rutgers room.
