peabody have you seen the Iowa Lift video? if you haven't go watch it, it will tell you why these guys have such bad form, it's because they aren't bodybuilders - they're wrestlers, they move around a lot. you have to force your reps, not so much as to injure yourself but heavy enough that you struggle for every rep. why? you're not going to sink in an underhook just by standing there are you? no you're going move your entire body with it. they're lifting to help with their technique, not to bench 405.
Yeah Peabody, my thoughts exactly. Their coach is Terry Brands; probably one of the laziest guys around. From what I've heard he's a lot like his college coach, too.
Get outta here. Go make a couple of olympic teams, win some world medals, wrestle internationally as much as these guys do, be as good as they are, and then come back and say how their lifting is. Matter of fact, you should check out the Iowa lifting videos. Gotta be one of the worst lifting programs in the country right there, right? No real pedigree or anything behind it.
You don't have to agree with how they do it, but to say that your way is the ONLY right way and that their way has no basis is just plain ignorant...ironically enough.
Ignorance is hilarious and Hilarious is ignorance. Go educate yourselves.
these guys have no clue how to execute weightlifting technique or what is appropriate strength training for their sport. A very cursory bit of research confirms this. Their coach is a lazy ass.
I love the comments where guys suggest that the training that these athletes are doing is counter-productive. Our olympians and olympic coaches OBVIOUSLY have no clue what they're doing.
why are we posting USA team lifts online? we are making it public news to the world on what lifts we do, where we do them and how we train. does this NOT make sense to anyone else? or am i just being too cautious?
no, its whoever can push them and help them prepae idiot, its not about placement, and i dont think lewis and askren would get along, abas can barely wrestle so what good would he do?think about it
All of the second place finishers should be at the OTC working their asses off to help the representative prepare for the Olympics. The OTC does pay these guys to be there.
why should it have to be an impartial process?? If the coaches and wrestlers want somebody specific to help them, that is who should be there. Also, its not like these guys get paid to be there, so it can be tough for some of the other guys to go to all of thecamps all the time. they fly in and out when they can. also, what kind of worthless person calls these guys "nothings". I am sure you are somebody, get a life.
I think those so-called "nothings" are there because they were asked by the Olympians to be their training partners. Sometimes the number two guys aren't the best partners for your individual style or workout. When I was younger, some athletes chose me over more established wrestlers because I gave them a good look and feel that best suited their style and training regimen. The best wrestlers aren't always the best training partners.
I would love to know what Carmen believes is good training. I suppose you have trained more world class athletes in WRESTLING. FYI, there is not one training regimen that works for all athletes and sports.
I am not so sure about the 10lb side raises??? I would like to know what each guy does in entirety? it looks like some guys need to throw in some more olympic lifting. where are the snatches???
So... Mocco leaves Iowa for Oklahoma St. to realize his Olympic dream, but then finds himself being directly trained by a guy who epitomizes the "Iowa Style" and philosophies and he finally makes a world team... interesting...

someone made fun of brands shorts. lookout, there r 2 more people wearing those shorts! lol. who gives a damn what they wear, what matters is how hard they train.
watching terry brands coach mocco in that sonewhat of an iowa style... reminds me when mocco was in iowa city being coached by tom and jimmy z, i always liked when mocco wore black and gold
Mesenbrink is in pretty good shape for a guy that's not THAT young. Anybody know what his wrestling background is? He's an awesome hi-school coach.
