I wrestle and im amazed by the talent that true dedicated wrestlers have. i have only been wrestling for 4 years but i have had my share of losses and wins but the russians have good skill. Kentucky wrestling is compettive but we need more dedicated wrestlers like this so hopefully wrestlers will start to realize what needs to be done to be great.
to Addiedog:
in my opinion, it isn't sambo or judo technique, you can use these throws in many kinds of wrestling: greco (except using legs), judo, sambo, freestyle. Only diffencies in rules and clothes make it easier or harder to use them.
For example, in judo you can be punished for low position, that's why it's easier to throw in judo. In sambo you won't be punished, but you have clothes (kind of kimono) and your adversary can use it to throw you, the same as you can use his clothes. I'm not familiar with wrestling in USA, but here, in Russia (especially in North Caucasus), throws are quite popular to learn and to use, because they can be very beautiful and you can score at once three or even five points.
His name is Bilal Mahov, he is a muslim, and he shouted "Allahu Akbar", that can be translated from arabic to english as "The God is great".
Casey has a good point on style. However, keep in mind that much of what appears to be trickery is crossover technique, such as Sambo and Judo.
Chechen, could you clearify, please? Also, could you interpret what the champion shouted to the croud at 8:40? My guess is "that was for you, Jodie Foster."
4:26 is sick. An awesome counter to an overhook. Notice he's got wrist control on his opponent's overhook hand before he lunges for the outside trip. Notice also that he has good head position (lower than his opponent, pressing against the chest) before he goes for it.
Errrr yeahhh....we could see the same from the US Nationals. Put the Red, White and Blue beer can down and push yourself away from the keyboards.
You see when you hit your knees and kiss the Iowa/Gable/Brands ass, it is obvious you would reply saying that the USA is capable of doing the same. Maybe the likes of Reece Humphrey in the future. Nobody in the USA is trained that way anymore.
But please post some more so I can laugh at your utter stupidity.
Maybe it is just me but it seems like the biggest difference between the Russian style and the rest of the world is the welcomed use of trickery. They seem so far ahead of everybody else in terms of deceptive setups it makes it look unfair at times. Chime in........
Reminds me of watching guys like John Smith when they were wrestling. Thats why he was winning everything in sight! Now our guys just stall out and try for 1 big move which usually doesn't end up going our way. We need to get more aggressive and explosive. We are stall wrestlers nowdays.
Hey let's not dog our guys out too much. Remember this it a "Highlight video" and granted these are incredible techniques but their whole matches can't be this fast! Did Flo make a "highlight video" of our Nationals because we've got sweet moves too! Come on we ain't out of it yet!

In some weights yes, some weights no. 74, 84, & 96 definitely.
does anyone know where i could buy one of those SINGLETS many of the Russians were wearing...I've been searching everywhere for them and nothing.
Please someone tell me if you know!!
This is what wrestling should look like in order to keep fans watching and to bring in new fans. This makes the U.S. world team trials look like a pee wee tournament. The U.S. has some guys heading to the Worlds because they won a coin flip in the clinch 3 times or because they are better at pushing someone out of bounds then the field. Too many low scoring boring matches and that doesnt seem the case here in this video. Freestyle wrestling in the U.S. is a joke
The Rookies just do not at all mess around. When they want to hit a move, they just go full throttle. And Flo...quit throwing stuff on the mats! Keep up these highlight vids. Stuff is just awesome.
just another "flogestion". i think these past 2 russian highlight videos are the 2 best highlight videos ive ever seen so you guys obviosley know what your doing. why dont you guys make like a all flo highlight vid or like a highschool, college, international highlight video?
Did anyone else notice how they were never content with a push out point, but always finishing techniques and looking for exposures on the edge of the mat...
Here is the 2009 Russian Nationals Highlight Reel. This years Nationals took place in Kazan Russia. Winners are set to compete at the 2009 world championships in Denmark.
