Leen has made tremendous strides since the beginning of his college career. What a great competitor. Can't wait for NCAA's because I'm rooting for Leen again.

How high was Leens vertical jump (when he was warming up).

Hope this is just the beginning for these two at 157 and see them rastle once more and then again in the National Finals. Two of the Nations best. Got to finish those HC's. The last time if Vallimont would have taken the leg he got in on and came up and around he head to a back down likely would have scored but instead held on and got caught lower into a funk where he was unable to kick and run so hit a nice kick over but Leen keept that ankle tight. Great series of wrestling. Hope they both make it to the finals....long year

Does anybody know why and what the Penn State Coach is ing at. Its at the end of 3rd round when he's screaming and pointing the finger at both wrestlers than starts yelling at ref?

Again I understand from experience that wrestling against high caliber wrestlers is never easy. Going back to my original post, I was merely saying that Valimont will need to finish that single leg faster and if that is not possible for him, possibly a bulldog double leg (head in the chest) may be a suitable alternate taking both of Leen's legs off the ground. I imagine a second alternative to the single leg from a shot would be a patented Dave Schultz type "snatch" single leg from a fierce Russian tie or arm lock leg where Valimont does not drop to his knees. The leg is literally snatched then within an instant brought up extremely high to a punishing finish. Valimont also needs to get stronger as we all know that more horsepower always helps in finishing leg attacks.

Ace, I certainly do not disagree with you on "if only it were that simple..." I imagine if it were as easy as I previously stated, we could all defeat defending NCAA champions. I apologize for making my post sound as if finishing the single leg on a high caliber wrestler is "easy." My bad.

Troy Sunderland was correct in pointing out that the ref allowed Leen the same leg lock while riding legs that was called illegal when Molinaro used it. Officials aren't perfect, but fair and even calls is what coaches want to see.

Great match for any time let alone the early season.

You do realize Leen is the returning Champ with great flexibility and athleticism? As athletic as Poeta is he couldn't get in on Leen well let alone finish, these top guys don't stand idle like bad drill partners.
BTW, Vallimont had 3 losses last year, all to poeta and finished 3rd. I am imagining he did finish quite a few takedowns to do that.

TJX if it were only that simple . . . when you get in on the leg the force of the other wrestler WILL stop you for a split second, unless you're sweeping it. Never the less, I agree with you on needing to finish quicker.

Valimont has to learn how to finish a single leg attack properly. Not sure why he stops wrestling when he gets in on the leg. He pauses ever so briefly but nevertheless he pauses after he gets in almost hoping the ref will give him two points for the beautiful crisp set up. He should hve won this match had he been able to finish any one of those leg attacks. Message to Valimont, don't stop wrestling when you get the leg. Come to your feet, lift that leg high into the air, and finish the attack all in one motion from the set up to the lift to the finish. All has to be in one motion buddy. If his knee is ultra flexible, go to a bulldog double leg attack and take both legs high off the ground but this all must be done in one motion from the set up to the eventual finish.

Great stuff by both wrestlers.
