I'll answer the last 4 comments in reverse order:

- Thanks, Cliff. The practice shots were Coach Sean's idea.
- Ed: I love the song; it's called "Promontory". If the Clovis Highlights are here, I'll look them up!
-Squidly: the footage spans about three years, so I guess you can say it covers both JV and Varsity kids. In the state of Maryland, turnout is so low that there really isn't much of a JV anymore. (in fact, many schools cannot even field a full varsity lineup, let alone JV wrestlers. It's sad how times have changed here.)
-That_kid: It says Recruitment Video because that's what it is. It's designed to attract attention from people who don't know much about the sport, notably football players (that is why you see a lot of throws and takedowns instead of moves like reversals, escapes, and near-falls, which are on the team's actual highlight reels).

You used the same song as Tirapelle did in the Clovis highlights.

Are all of those junior varsity wrestlers? It's tough developing neophyte wrestlers, but it is fun when they have success. Good luck.

If Mr. Green worked on his technique more, maybe he would take opponents down instead of slamming them down. lol To Mr. "MD", you are correct, That Kid did not place a states. Mainly because he spent most of last season behind our starting 285, who happens to be the State Champ. You are entitled to your opinion of OH wrestling, but as my partner Coach Howard stated, if you would like to prove your point, please have your coach email me to see if we can schedule a meet.
While I'm glad this video is getting attention for our program and generating all kinds of opinions, please remember that our purpose was not to highlight any athlete, but rather generate interest in our sport in an area where there is little support, no feeder system, and very little general knowledge of wrestling.
I'm happy to say that the video is already showing positive results by catching the interest of a few students who look to potentially join the team.
Steve, YOU THE MAN!

Good job as usual, Coach, with keeping the kids in line. Jason wanted your permission to post this video on his facebook page. He thought that might be a good way to get it out there.

Thanks to all for the encouraging words. We just handed out DVDs yesterday, and the kids were enthusiastic, to say the least. Now, we'll cross our fingers, and see what happens!

Awesome job Coach Howard! I hope this helps with the recruiting. Perhaps the Captains can set up al back to school night with this video on a constant loop? Could be worth a shot.

Thanks!! Just going through all of the footage when I made this reminded me of the hard work and sacrifice the kids give us year in and year out...

It's in Oxon Hill, MD, which is located in Prince Georges County, just over the Washington, DC-Maryland border.

08-09 Recruitment Video

September 1, 2008
As part of our continuing drive to recruit kids in an area where wrestling is not a popular sport, we coaches at Oxon Hill HS have come up with a small "highlight vid" for our guys to put on their Ipods. (A bit "Vision Quest-y, but if it gets bodies into the wrestle room...)
