iowa style has hurt our sport. to much emphasis on conditioning and brawling. this is why you have so many low scoring matches. I would rather watch askren wrestle over iowa style any day
I really would like to understand how Iowa always gets away with shoving guys after they go out of bounds. I think this should be a poor sportmanship or illegal roughness call for 1 point. In bounds and going out of bounds I understand, but when a guy's back is turned and you push him? Also, Iowa does this when they are on top and the period or match ends, they push or shove the guys head or body down. As long as Iowa continues to think that sportsmanship is not part of the game I will always cheer for John Smith's boys.
scott was definatly ged. i didnt think neither man was stalling. except in the third period when scott started to show he was ging. as for the shove outta bounds thats a finish to a high single that we call a tree-top. scott probly made it look worse because he was so ged.
osu wrestlers treat iowa wrestling like smith did brands(like babies . slaton may have thought he was tough at the time but did anyone else see the national finals, ive never seen iowa fans not say anything it was almost as good a moment when scott was celebrating and i wasnt sure what to take a picture of.
Some 1 pt and then 2 pts when Coleman Scott never turned around after being left go on the optional startin the 3rd period. Guess, the big crowd was too much for the ref.
Iowa is in good shape and has a good style; it is very suprising that they lost this match. I am realy realy suprised but I guass that OSU just has better wrestlers and better team all-togeather right now. They will peak during the nationalchapionship and they will win the national chamionship .
Coleman Uses the Claw Ride superior riding tool people just cant stop him once he gets ahead he is ahead Iowa showed lil class in all his pushing off the mat Brands teaches a class its called Show No Class
i am a big hawkeye fan but coleman is a better wrestler and slaton is lucky billy murphy(former blue chip recruit) is not on the team anymore? cause he would have been the 33
Iowa fans are either insanely committed or completely stupid cause they were screaming for stall calls and Staton was flat on his stomach from a tight waist. Just because he couldn't get out doesn't mean that Scott is stalling,
Technically, Scott was the dominant wrestler. Not sure why he gassed, but he may have had a rough cut and not enough time to recover. Slaton never showed up. I think the stalling pleas are bogus...Slaton never worked on bottom, he laid there and let Scott ride him. If he had worked for 7min., the way he worked for the last 1min., it may have been a difference in this match. I don't see Slaton beating Scott, too much of a learning curve over a slick veteran.
That's because Gable is sponsored by asics, so I'm sure they hook up the hawkeyes, and Smith is sponsored by adidas, so they probably hook up the cowboys.
I know this doesnt really mean anything, but did anyone notice that across the board it was Iowa-Asics Ok State-Adidas? Of course 7 of those Adidas shoes were John Smith's. Just thought it was kinda cool.
1. Scott was the better wrestler
2. Scott did only enough to win; didn't wrestle aggressively after getting ahead. Stall calls seemed legitimate (who cares what the crowd yelled and when -- watch the action with the volume turned down and call the match yourself)
3. Slaton tossing Scott off the mat was worse than bush. Should have been UC or unnecessary roughness.
4. Smith had reason to be upset, but needs to keep it together a little better - grabbing the ref's arm and going out to the center of the mat after the bench warning are both no good. Understand him wanting to be the lightning rod for the crowd but doesn't set a good example for any of his wrestlers with a temper problem.
one of the reasons scott is probably so out of shape is due to cutting too much weight and not having enough time to hydrate. slaton should have been atleast warned for his crap at the end of the match. its one thing to be aggressive, but another to be a jerk. coleman will beat him again next time they wrestle.
I don't know how anyone can watch that match and think that at this point that Slaton could ever beat Scott. That isn't even Coleman's best takedown and he hit it 3 times. Hate to say it but Slaton's head is down on the bottom, and that is stalling every bit as much as Coleman's parallel leg riding. The crowd made it a close match, not the wrestling.
I also dont think slaton wrestled the same in this match as he has all year. he took a lot of shots in his matches before this one. Im really suprised i didnt see that again
can't expect a stall call when slaton just pushes ahead without taking a shot all match...coleman definitely controlled the entire match, even on top with leg rides..once he gets the gas tank in check he will be tough to beat
joe slaton has a lot to learn...this is his first year of varsity competition. I wouldnt be suprised if he beats Scott later this year. Sometimes it takes a loss to learn the most
Pathetic is when you have some Hawkeye fan yelling stalling less than a few seconds after Scott takes Slayton down. Pathetic is when a fan can't actually see Slayton was dominated for over 6 MINUTES. And I'm willing to bet you thought the last stalling call was legit. Keep crying about your Hawks getting worked in Carver Hawkeye. I would love your take on when Perry rides parallel.......Oh your right he NEVER EVER does that
Pathetic is getting taken down with the same shot three times in a match. Slaton could have rode parallel on scott, oh wait, he only took one shot. His stance with the right arm down is a defensive stance looking for no offense.
That was pretty pathetic, Scott backed up horribly, as well as rode paralell with legs in the entire time, and not to mention he was so slow getting back on restarts, I don't see how he didn't almost get stalled out of the match. seriously.
Scott dominates 3/4 of this bout. Slayton stayed in his face and kept himself in the match. The last stalling call was nothing short of ridiculous. Whats more ridiculous was how badly they kept crying about stalling. Just to prove my point listen closely on flowrestling and count how long it takes after Scott's first takedown until you hear some Hawkeye fan yell Scott is stalling. It's humorous how quickly you hear it. I can't wait to see how things play out for both teams in March.
Slaton did nothing the whole match. Earned ONE takedown and took ONE shot. all match long trying to bully and intimidate. Congrats to Scott for keeping his head cool. Total BS with Slaton tossing Scott off the mat at the end of the match. Seemed like he was trying to throw him off the mat entirely. Even worse that Hawkeye fans applaud the bush league bahavior.
Yes, Scott fatigued in third period. Maybe because he was the only one that was wrestling. easy not to be tired when you only take one shot, earn one escape the whole match.
This is wrestling not tennis or golf. Smith whines and whines everytime a match gets physical. Scott did great until he got fatigued in the 3rd. That being said Slaton had no offense the first 5 minutes of the match. I like OSU peaking in March whereas guys like Slaton, LeClere and Falck may fade.
You know, Coleman was the better wrestler but he needs to have a bit more zip in the third period. He figured he had done enough for 75% of the match and didn't need to worry about the last 25%. Almost cost him. However, Slaton will never beat Coleman, I'd bet the farm on that. Given 2 points and a huge home crowd, he still can't pull off the victory over a tired Coleman Scott.
