You're right, Jersey has a lot of 1 and 2 point matches. I know Winston took him to his back at the end, so it was tied late into the 3rd period. But a 6-1 match can be a beatdown, it all depends.
You jersey mouths are saying the same thing. Stuttering all over the place. Yes, Welch lost. Now why not post something original. Or do you jersey boys just parrot each other. By the way, a 6-1 loss is not exactly getting messed up. A loss, yes but not messed up. Maybe in jersey, but not the rest of the world.
i watched a couple of this jason welch kids matches on here and im not impressed hes sloppy as far as im concerned and he will not win any kind of ncaa championship and he seems to y for his own good

Welch is tough, but Poeta is just explosive.
All of you idiots that talk down a 17 year old high school senior that just beat by the top 157lb.rated wrestler by the NCAA.Who by the way is 5 years older than Jason.Welch isa class act.Big upside. All of you haters.
The Idiot that typed his name as Bland would that be the 191 lb.state
champion that welch beat in a match at 175lbs.How about Danz the 191 lb.
state champ that welch also beat. All you haters.Pay attention,Jason
Welch did not red-shirt,hes the real deal and don't be surprised when he wins two or three NCAA titles.Hes already beat that Donkey Winton all of you idiots from East of the Mississippi.
Go Jason!!!!!!

What makes you think Welch hasn't peaked out already?
Maybe because he is only in high school once he gets into that northwestern room he will be twice as good as he was in hs if you honestly think he has peaked you are obviously ignorant to the sport of wrestling.
its amazing the difference in ability between a top ranked high schooler and a top ranked collegiate wrestler. Poeta is a beast and welch will be a phenomenal wrestler in college........but he won't beat poeta
I think Cary Kolat had a pretty close match with Kendall Cross as a high school junior when Cross was an NCAA champ and I remember Dustin Schlatter defeating multiple NCAA AA's while in high school.
I don't think people on here understand the "jump of differences" in competition from high school to college. I remember when I started wrestling in college I couldn't believe the level change. For a high school kid to even wrestle at this level is amazing, let alone take down the number one guy in the country.
true dat. welch would stomp on winston. welch is still hanging in there with the top college guy in the country but still a long way away from beating guys like poeta. i think that its always smart to redshirt as freshman as i think welch should too
Are you guys serious????? You guys are saying he sucks because he lost to someone 5 years older than him??? Jason is the best high school wrestler in the nation!!
welch is a great wrestler but i think people make it seem like hes better than he really is who has he defeated in high school thats a top stud nobody yet but everyone will see how good he really is when hes in a bracket with howe, winston, and polz (who i think will win fargo at 160)polz
Welch hasn't peaked yet. In fact, there is no such thing as peaking because you can always improve and get stronger and faster and better at the little things. At least untill you get older and your body cant take it anymore. But Welch is only in high school so he's got about 12 years untill he's 30 and then things will start to slow down.
yes jason welch is a bit@# we all know this,
hes not good, he has peaked out and hes the best incoming freshmen why? i was being sarastic screw you haters that suck and are unknown. nj suks
Everyone talks about Winston /Welch but Howe just placed 3rd at fila's and beat Reader, Nemec and Manuel.Simply because he's from Indiana doesn't mean he won't kick -as you 've witnessed today if you watched Angel @125.
welch jus got his ass kicked he had nothing to loose and he still got beat up bad not that impressed i knoe the guy he wrestled is #1 but next year and probly the year after he wont be oon poeta's level
This kid will be good some day (next year) but this is not very smart, he could really get hurt, hopefully other prodigies don't get crazy like this and try and wrestle college guys.
Welch is the real deal. I hope he wrestles as a true frosh. I have been around wrestling for 30 years and he is the best hs kid I have seen(along with Kolat)
and now that i watch the whole match again, he really didn't get all out whooped, nice inside trip attempt, nice td at the end of the match. he'll be tough, for sure.
no shame for welch in taking this match on, a good experience. a lot of d1 recruits coming out of high school won't get the chance to get their butt kicked by a top level college guy and see where they need to be in the future. this should do nothing but help him. i wonder how long it's been for welch since he's been handled like this, if ever?
Kudos to Jason for stepping up and looking for better action than the high school ranks to better himself and measuring his abilities for the future in college.
