cubberly didnt care after the push out loss to Howe in the third period of their match. He went to win anything less did not matter to him. That is the bottom line

And By The Way April 9, 2008 at 7:24pm.
Seriously, try and act like 3:26 wasn't sweet. That must have been the short periods fault.
#63
Moral Of The Story April 9, 2008 at 7:19pm.
Don't get scored on to begin with if you're that good.
#62
Really April 6, 2008 at 9:12pm.
Tell me that the 2-1-1 timeperiods at Super 32 doesn't lead to FLAWED results.

Add 1min per period and Winston A) Gets a td or
B) Gets a stalling call and then a td

either way, it is a weak system, and lets a kid get a lead and just hang out and be grooovy...
#61
Oh April 6, 2008 at 7:27pm.
do they get to keep the belts?
#60
Fools April 3, 2008 at 7:16pm.
Cubberly took injury time when Winston had blood! That is proof that he was hurt because if he wanted rest time, he would have just faked his injury after Winston's blood time. So he could get 2 rest times. You people need to actually look at the video.

Dsafrvsdt April 3, 2008 at 7:14pm.
Yeah, Cubberly had plenty of re-shots. He was not stalling much at all.
#58
Jack_x April 3, 2008 at 7:13pm.
Another re-shot at 6 min
#57
AKwrestler April 3, 2008 at 7:13pm.
And Cubberly did shoot. At 5:52 in the video he endangered himself with a re-shot.
#56
AKwrestler April 3, 2008 at 7:11pm.
Good match. Cubbery won it fair and square. Some of you say he was stalling? Well just because you don't shoot doesn't mean he was stalling. He was working the head and attempting those passbyes and shucks left and right. Shooting isn't the only way to work for a takedown.

#48
Zmiller_x March 17, 2008 at 1:42pm.
excellent counter wrestling by Cubberly, Winston is a freak!
#47
Dubs March 17, 2008 at 10:57am.
comming from a wrestler that wrestles the same as Eric C.. we dont need to shoot when we can throw and sprawl....he wasnt stalling till the end and hell when you have a bum knee and up by one you better believe your going to stall... go job Eric on winning the belt
#46
Shots March 15, 2008 at 9:33am.
How many shots did Cubberly take during the match? (I'll give you a hint: the same # I DID...ZERO) He should have been hit for stalling waaaay earlier than 20 secs left. Winston forced the action here but got caught in the tilt.
#45
Dearpanthercub March 14, 2008 at 6:00pm.
scotty already beat quentin wright. so hes #2 in the county at 160 yet hes beaten the #1 171 pounder.
#44
Wrestling_x March 14, 2008 at 5:50pm.
"but" is an idiot. Winston isn't undefeated in tournaments like this, only during the season. The match was kinda lame until about half way through the second period, then it got good. Congrats to cubberly... great defense
#43
Hmmm March 6, 2008 at 6:45pm.
at least if your gonna act like your religious make sure you do the sign of the cross right....he did it with the wrong hand.

IF...cubberly would have been an inch closer to the circle on the almost two takedowns he had on the edge, the 5pter would not matter...but thats only IF and the fact of the matter is neither one of these happend and they both wrestled a great match and will see each other in the future for sure
#32
Notfornuthin' October 30, 2007 at 8:39pm.
but it was hardly a beating. If winston finishes that first takedown an inch closer to the circle it would'nt been at least a 5-pter. Good job to both tho.
#31
Lucas_x October 30, 2007 at 8:16am.
both are very talented andboth have a great future but this time eric pulled through and came out on top and did very good as a wrestler and had a great match and deserves it for all the hard work he did to prepare hope to see more great matches in the future
#30
Anonymous Coward October 29, 2007 at 8:18pm.
I agree with Anon, cant we just stop with all this crap. These are two very good wrestlers that wrestled a very good match. Cubberly wins this one , next Winston could win. I am just glad they showed up to wrestle. unlike some people who contact each other and decide which weight to go. I wish to tell these two young men "Thanks for giving the wrestling community a great match and I look forward to seeing round two in the future.

Anon October 29, 2007 at 8:58am.
Its a Shame, id have to say, that someone cant be talented and beat some1 else talented, and not be hated on for it.... they have obviously both put in what it takes to be good, eric came out on top, and to say winston would beat him is a crappy statement, for the fact nothin is decided till it happens.... so if there is a rematch it will be decicde dthen, i cant understand y people have some much fun in breakin down people who have worked hard and deserve at least a little compliments

Not Eric Cubberly October 26, 2007 at 5:45pm.
great match, eric's quickness and leverage versus winston's strength. Wish I could hav seen it in person.... BTW if you know eric you know that he did not make those comments down below - with his name attached to it....
#26
Morgans October 26, 2007 at 2:57am.
winston will prove you all wrong and that format killed him. He will win nationals and the beast. Can't wait to be there to see great wrestling.

I owned all you b****es, I will be at Lock Haven to own your ass again!
#22
Anonymous Coward October 24, 2007 at 6:48am.
I would say they were both a little tired. I believe that Scotty took over 1 minute to plug a bloody nose during the third period.(Time it on the video) Cubberly took about 30-45 seconds for a banged knee. When two wrestlers of this caliber meet this early, the conditioning of both wrestlers does come into play. I would say they were both conditioned about the same at this point. As far as pointing to the heart- who cares- wasnt like he was jumping around the mat.
#21
Anonymous Coward October 24, 2007 at 4:41am.
Cubberly was the better wrestler without a doubt. But I don't believe his knee was hurt, I think he was absolutely gassed. Pointing to his heart at the end of the match? Son, getting gassed at the end is not heart.
#20
Quentin Wright October 23, 2007 at 1:32pm.
ill be there so you better get in teh room or be propaired to get drugged all over the mat

PantherCub7 October 23, 2007 at 11:41am.
How about a rematch November 10th @ the Fall Classic in Lock Haven, PA??? You two could basically meet in the middle and add to the fact that Quentin Wright will most likely be there (he lives 20 miles from the place) we could see who the best 160 lber really is? What do you say?
#17
Anonymous Coward October 23, 2007 at 7:19am.
It could have gone either way. If they were to wrestle 10 times they would both be 5-5. great match though
#16
FAN October 22, 2007 at 11:27pm.
Winston looks strong, buy not very technical. Spend more time drilling wrestling and less pumping Iron. Not sure he'll transition well into college or have anywhere near the success in college as he does in HS.
#15
Anonymous October 22, 2007 at 6:35pm.
somebody please teach winston how to hand fight and set up his shots. He could be a world beater!
#14
BHiatt October 22, 2007 at 11:37am.
Fantastic match. Cubberly is a very good counter-attack wrestler.

ohio kids do not eat new jersey state champs for breakfast, is not like it was a tech fall or pin
#11

give credit where credits do. they are both tough wrestlers.
#10
Anonymous Coward October 22, 2007 at 1:53am.
I think the Ohio kid had 2 close takedowns going out of bounds or was I seeing things?
#9
Anonymous Coward October 22, 2007 at 1:51am.
weren't the periods the same for both athletes? or did cubberly get 10 minutes to score 5 points and winston only 4 minutes. give me a break the rules were the same for both

if the periods are 2-2-2, winston wins it
#6
Anonymous Coward October 21, 2007 at 3:08pm.
this loss doesnt count hes just gonna be lesser rank in the nation but he still gonna go undefeated in high school and win states for a 3rd time
#5
Anonymous Coward October 21, 2007 at 2:49pm.
cubberlys good and he just look like his knee was bothering him. winston just looks strong
#4
Anonymous October 21, 2007 at 2:43pm.
Not surprising. I think Winston is a bit over-rated. He will have trouble when he gets to college and loses his power advantage.
#3
Anon October 21, 2007 at 2:42pm.
Maybe it was the tilt that killed Winston?
#2
D3i October 21, 2007 at 2:35pm.
the tilt is what killed winston.

Anonymous Coward October 21, 2007 at 1:02pm.
