Tony Jameson = Infinitely more naturally talented than Peppleman
Peppleman = Infinitely more technically sound than Jameson

Conclusion: Ohio State University has a boatload of RAW talent ready to be tamed.

and if its so bad for the sport of wrestling

all the people watching the match seem to be loving it

Super119Man_x   January 13, 2008 at 5:43pm
Why is it just because he dosent wrestle like everyone else and has his own style hes cocky??

Hes a great wrestler and goes out on the mat to have fun and he wins while he has fun

and i think he'll do very good in college he has great defense and hes tough on top

This is what people out side of wrestling, non-wrestlers, liek to watch. This kind of "junk" ios great for wrestling. Look at Ben Askren, who the hell knew what he was doing half the time. ocky or not this is good for wrestling. This gets people into the sport.

Jamie Sperrazza   January 3, 2008 at 3:22pm
When I first saw this match I was like, what the hell is he doing. But after seeing some of his other matches I realised that he only does this type of wrestling against weaker opponents. He gets serious half way through the first period of this match. He will never learn his lesson because the people that could woop him get the serious wrestler for 6 minutes.

Jameson is a good wrestling but is way to cocky.
I hope someone destroys him in college.

D3i   October 30, 2007 at 7:36pm
oh wow you guys are being stupid for saying Peppelman was even close to beating Jameson. Peppelman only got past Jameson's defense early in the first period with his Fireman's attempt. Jameson got a duck under to a sweep single, a near reversal. Peppelman's offense was nothing compared to Jameson's.

Wrestlerkid   October 29, 2007 at 2:42pm
Holy crap- they are both amazing wrestlers; Peppelman's match against Martens was really good (very nice tilt he has) and Jameson's match against Hudson Power was awesome to watch. Jameson's got style and if he can be cocky and tech kids doing it then he deserves to be.

Tll   October 27, 2007 at 7:45pm
from an impartial stand point... this match could have gone either way. could the ref have called a defensive pin? yes. the thing is, defensive pins are usually not called. from personal experiance, refs don't like to call them. next, was jameson show boating? yes. but if you can pull that off on one of the top kids in the country thats great.

I've read all of the comments that have been posted on all of tony j's matchs and think its funny how most of u bash him, but sit in front of yours computers and watch the matches over and over. Just because a kid has his own style of wrestling and decides to have a little bit of fun, you up and say he's cocky and make it seem that he doesnt even deserve to be on the mat. Well I've known the kid since he was in 8th grade, and was his drill partner his frosh and sophomore year. And 3 state championships later we have this. Im pretty sure no one on this forum can say the same, especially doing it in Ohio division 1 wrestling. But if u want to mock his style, step on the mat with him, and 6 mins. later tell me how you feel

We have watched for many years the Peppelmans and I will say that their moves have gotten better and their attitudes have stayed the same. Meaning, hats off to their dad for keeping up with their amazing talent and for keeping the boys grounded to what it takes to be a champion. We have enjoyed the wrestling energy both boys put out. Never have either forgotten to shake a hand or embrace a fellow wrestler (as they have in the past with my son) as for comments posted that are unbecoming...truth is Peppleman name is one that you will hear when talking about wrestling. How you get there is as important as why you are there in the first place. Wrestling IS an attitude and a wrestler has a choice on how they present themselves with a win as well as a loss. Showing off...is showing off a great strength and ability of what will work for THAT individual, that is wrestling. If everyone wrestled with the same style, there would be no class, just the same style. Walter has shown all his hard work through the years have made him an amazing wrestler. Great Job. Go Pa!!!

this video makes me sick, i know jameson is a good wrestler, but he is a complete show off. Peppelman is a class act and the better wrestler.

Robert Pascale   October 25, 2007 at 3:46pm
I think Jake Kemmerer is going 145 this year.

Yes many wrestlers come out of thier stance and bounce a bit, but theres a line between that and unnecasary showing off. I saw on another video he was teching a kid and did a forward roll while cutting him. whats that about? humiliating an obviously inferior opponent?? A solid wrestler who stays in a good position and doesn't go for the jukes should be able to handle Jameson. College that is, he is more athletic and mature than almost all high schoolers which gives him the Ws, but for sucess on the next level he should focus on TECHNIQUE. As of this point, his is sloppy.

Steensezwat   October 25, 2007 at 12:12pm
hey one and all...they are both great and both accomplished. My vote is leave it lay and not make this out to be to a conflict like either of the kids did anything morally or humanly wrong. They both are gladiators and deserve praise for where they are in the wrestling world not pissing matches..anyone agree??

Va Tech   October 25, 2007 at 5:55am
Peppleman won the match. The sad part is that you could see the defensive pin comming. He just missed it 10 - 15 seconds earlier. That was so easy to call. Many times that happens so fast that the official is out of position.
No excuses here, that was an easy call. 2 seconds is 2 seconds he didn't make the rule.Added to it,you can here the, as could the official, the boys coach yelling watch your back.

well comparing styles would mean they have some similarities which they do not. john smith never hopped around like a ballerina taunting his opponent.

#21
Anonymous Coward   October 24, 2007 at 4:55pm
on the john smith comment i made before, did I ever say he was john smith...no. Did u even read it or just go, oh that guy is saying he is john smith, what an idiot....yes the kid is in high school so he hasnt accomplished what john smith did, never said he did. im comparing their STYLES, not accomplishments. comparing unique styles isnt saying they are the same.

Homosezwat   October 24, 2007 at 3:44pm
hey crack head on the kemerer comment -he most certainly did....all 168lbs of kemerer....this was uh what 145lbs and he weighs 149 with out sucking weight...kemerer would have gotten jacked at the super 32..maybe that is why he wasn't there..stay in boardman with the first place medal and be happy..goood luck to big jake with guyz his own weight -mouth piece

Just Another   October 24, 2007 at 2:37pm
i agree that his style appears and could possibly be a bit cocky, but the simple fact is he won the match and it doesn't appear that many people are even close to his level. until someone goes 6 min with Jameson and truly beats him we dont have much room to talk, even with his flaws of bouncy and standing straight up, very few have beat him. im not trying to defend him but why are we putting him down he's good dont bash him for that.

jameson wasnt hopping around like that at the bordman tournament when jake kemerer from hempfield beat him 12-5

this kid cant even compare to john smith so that analysis was just stupid

Steensezwat   October 24, 2007 at 5:40am
and i'll tell you one thing that he won't need to do this year or at any level is learn to deal with all the stupid comments -he's been doing it for the last 3 years...bottom line again i guess the show boat has 1 belt and the no boat's have probably uh i'm guessing none..
as for peppleman he is a class act and as tuff as they come i am only defending tony since i was in his corner...i love watching walter and marshall as well.... honestly would have loved to see them wrestle the periods 2-2-2..i'd like to see the super 32 put in the true second wrestle off for first.

I agree that Tony is no John Smith (there is only one of those),however Smith most definitely did stand up straight and bounce around during matches.

Republic   October 23, 2007 at 5:18pm
I've watched Tony wrestle since he was a 6th grade kid, and he is simply put, unique, a style that is hard to counter, and just fun to watch. He will need to make adjustments at the next level, but at the same time, he is probably the only wrestler on the planet that can get away with the funk at the next level.

#13
Anonymous Coward   October 23, 2007 at 3:24pm
and this kid is no john smith. john smith wrestled loose and was always changing levels. He never stood straight up and bounced around like he wasnt even in a match.

and as for the rest of you that worry about his college career -particularly you ohio haters who have made a living bashing him on your web site since his first state championship you shouldn't spend your time hoping he won't win his fourth or his college career...he will win it with flying colors and he will be outstanding in college. Now log off this site and back onto your little ohio chat room and start talking smack again -I am sure tony is practicing somewhere in austintown or with me and could care less what you think, feel, or wish..his skin is tuffer than your hard head.

no pin you freaks..no control and no one thousand count..if you want a victory like that from a match like this your all bottom feeders!! As for his cocky crap you are jealous and nothing constructive to say and only a destructive mentality like most losers in the world. As for wrestling with him since jr high in ohio he got a lot better and your probably still wearing your 13 & 14 2nd place medal wondering about cutting weight to beat a smaller kid cause jameson merked your butt....as for college he will do what he needs to to succeed and will..I have worked with him all summer in the wrestling room and he is dedicated and devoted and very talented -different yes but top notch..he worked out like a ball of fire for the two weeks prior to the super 32 with focus and intensity...two words for you haters shut it.

There is no way you can tell from the video that he was pinned. Other than that, Peppelman was never close to scoring and spent most of the match grasping to an ankle to avoid a takedown or reversal. Also, he was given a gift when they stopped the match for no apparent reason as he was being put in his back out of the same scramble where some of you are claiming he was "pinned". There's nothing cocky about bouncing around, sorry that not everyone can be a robot. Get over your jealousy.

Anonymous Coward   October 23, 2007 at 7:43am
blah blah blah stop knocking peoples style. John Smith wasn't conventional at all, he hopped around the mat, went down to a one-knee or two knee stance, bouncing all over the place to fake out his opponent and then setup a good shot. This kid has a wierd style, but it works for him and he wins. Period.

jamesons wrestling is bad for the sport because wrestling is a sport where you go out there and scrap with your opponent, go to battle with them even, but you do not go out there and jump around like a little cheerleader. i am an ohio wrestler, and have wrestled with jameson since junior high and my oh my has this kid changed he never did this stupid stuff back then.

GoBlue   October 23, 2007 at 5:46am
Awesome match however jameson looked like he was pinned a couple of times....I like his style he isnt being cocky its just different...Good job to both wrestlers

Sackerdrag   October 23, 2007 at 5:18am
Think what you want about Jameson's style, he won the match. I'm sure all of you guys calling for the pin have a better view than the 2 officials that were on the mat. Regarding the escape, if you watch the official awards Jameson an escape(watch his right hand) first then Jameson goes for the takedown.

Heard alot about Jameson, finally saw him, now not a fan. Pepp prob had him pinned 2X, ref didn't even look. The way that kid acts is not good for the sport. I hope he has enough brains not to try that cockey crap in college. He may win some matches but I gaurantee he could end up with a significant injury either during or after a match in college.
