P.S. why not show this at practice or camp? As much as you tell wrestlers not to let another guy get in this deep, amazingly enough they end up in this position quite often. Why not have another potential defense to that position? Glenn Goodman teaches the first defense, and it works very well.

LOL! Someone below said won't work on someone like Pat or John Smith or Cael. How many times do you think people that watch Flo will wrestle those guys? There are many Junior High, High School, and College Wrestlers of several different divisions that watch Flo. If Flo was only about hitting the moves that work on Cael, well we would have 0 videos, since about nothing works on him.

Tough technique. My idea, dont let a guy get so deep into you that your only defense is to flail on top of him. I understand that the guy is a great wrestler and made it work. But showing this at a practice or clinic is useless.

to all of you sayin these moves suck, i gotta say becker used these funky moves when he wrestled and they worked pretty much every time sometimes the funky stuff is what catches guys off guard.

have you been watching NCAA's and D1 wrestling these days? it's not 1970 anymore, funky moves like these work now. Go to a D1 tournament and you will catch at least 3 of these 5 point defense moves in the upper levels of wrestling. obviously this isn't the first thing you would want to go to if you see the guy lowering his level and firing a shot...but if your reaction time to initiate a sprawl was not fast enough and you find yourself already stuck in the Iranian, then why not go for this if you have complete wrist control and a way to have good hip position?

Here's how to make the Iranian defense better:

1) After you secure your opponents free arm-GRAB HIS WRIST (cross grab). This will make going being him alot easier because you don't have to keep your hands locked and try to spin around-awkward.

2) Next, go the original way Becker showed...to do that, use your free leg ( @ ur knee) and push his head down, then slide your captured leg across his head. He will not be able to maintain control.
3) You literally can walk around behind him because his wrist is trapped

The technique here isn't to sprawl, this is after they have gotten in on your leg. Of course you don't want them on your leg, but this after they are deep in on a low single.

Why isn't Gerry Abas on here? He needs to show The Funk roll, on the westcoast known as the Abas Roll.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Against someone like Pat or John Smith or Cael, this would be futile.

It may not work against these guys because they are better at hitting a low single than their opponents are at defending it. There is a counter for just about every offensive move. It comes down to whether or not your counter is better than the offensive guys execution of the move. That comes with practice ...

Nice move. Technique is in the practice and almost any move can work if executed correctly with enough skill, speed and strength.

Brandon Becker defense to Low Single

February 10, 2009
I have a wicked low single which Brandon Becker just crushes. He has a nifty little move where he defends the single and manages to get five out of it. He also shows another defense where he mule kicks his way out of the low single.
