No way a coach should ever use the word MAYBE! Why would a kid want to wrestle for a coach that say you MAYBE an All American have some confidence in what you are doing!

Whether or not we are in an olympic year, to have a better understanding of success shouldn't we have an idea of what causes failure. you'll always pass failure on the way to success. Or can we only learn from our successes?

NO Disrespect to Mr. Maughan, but as a country (especially in an olympic year) I believe we should be focusing on why people ARE national champions and international champions. I am more interested in why a champ was a champ, instead of not. What do you think? This is not a challenge on to Mr. Maughn or a disrespect to him, I wish him and his team the best and continued success, but this is a question to the public.

His comment on "validation" for beginners is great.

Jack Maughan still looks back at his wrestling trying to find reasons why he was not a national champ. He thinks that a major reason is due to his mental preparation. He explains how this has shaped the way he coaches.
