my guess is there is no way in hell zimmer will let cook leave without paying the price. we all know how he went after rodriguez when he left. seems zimmer has no problem playing bully to kids and grownups alike. he doesnt care whats best for the kids. hes in it for himself and his own kid
I agree 100%. We saw this issue with the coach and the parent oversight committee's [sic] and got the heck out of Dodge before it was too late.

Snap told my son not to wrestle for Tirapelli. ST did not recomend him for clovis east head job. This was when he was at Clark. Snap said don't do Clovis tournaments or camps. I told Mamen. Tirapelli complained to Steel and Rogers. They told Snap to support the high school team or resign. He resigns. Told my frend he's going to get Tirapelli fired. My son hated Snap as coach cause he said my son wasnt as good as the wrestlers from Alta and Kasner. Tirapelli made my son believe he could beat those guys. He got a medal at state and beat those guys. I'm glad no one has hired Snap to wreck more others..

I am not sure what your coach aks of you, but he should be monitoring your english class attendence. If not that then take the time to read your post before you hit enter.

clovis schools at all levels have advantages over other school districts. organized elementary and jr. high programs allow the kids more opportunities at earlier ages than our fresno schools. the boys from good jr. high programs should at least develop into good wrestlers in high school if they get good coaching. some of the clovis schools have two or three teams. we don't see that kind numbers in any of the fresno or outlying schools.

I will have yo disagree with you Jim on one point. A good middle school program does NOT always equal a good High school program. The High School Coaches still have to evolve talent. A bad middle school program can be overcome by excellent High School coaching, I have witnessed this first hand and I'm not talking about Central valley here. Just my opinion.

I am part of the staff here at Clark Intermediate. My conversations were in-depth with those that I mentioned. This took place starting in the Spring, it went through the Summer, and on into the Fall. Dr. Rogers was basically livid that Chad resigned, and even more livid because none of the administrators or myself could convince him to reconsider his decision. There would be no reason for her to get that ticked off if they were going to fire Chad. Another point for you to ponder is this: Why did Mr. Mammen and Mr. Steele not try to get another coach to take over the program? They told me that they were sure that eventually Chad would reconsider and come back to coach. Finally at the last minute, it came down to two of the high school coaches having to take over the coaching duties. Whether Clovis high is doing better has nothing to do with Chad. His former wrestlers are doing pretty good though, and that is where he contributed to their middle school wrestling expierences. Most people would look at this as an obvious connection. A good middle school program equals a good high school program. Your mind is already made up though, so I'll just let other people evaluate the situation.

Riley resigned and took another coach job the same year! either way, he isn't coaching now and chs is doing much better without him.

joe, the wrestling parent is correct. I also spoke to Bobby Mammen, Scott Steele, and Dr. Cheryl Rogers last year. They all were disappointed in Chad's decision to resign. I am pretty sure that those administrators were not lying to me any more than they lied to the wrestling parent. There would be no need for them to do that, it woiuld be just as easy to say, "Chad isn't a good fit for this school, so we are going to move on without him." I personally did everything in my power to try to convince Chad to reconsider his resignation, but he wouldn't change his mind. For you to continue to insist that he was forced out is stupid. Two prominent CHS wrestling parents met with me awhile back and at that rime, Scott Steele told them that Chad Snapp had indeed resigned. NOT fired. Either way, he isn't coaching now, so you should be very happy.

This was on the Clovis Practice forum. I think it answere your questions about homegrown kids that Snapp coached. Not too shabby!

Clark kids that are now wrestling Varsity at Clovis HS. Tyler Ceremello, Cameren Kelley, Ben Omata, Jonathan Gay, Ben Kelley, Vincent Rubio (Lemoore) Jeremy Simons, Alec Dieter, Tommy Burriel, Brandon Ferrera, Scott Sakaguchi, and Stephen Weimer just to name a few. If memory serves me right, those kids have been on very good teams, including the last State Championship team.

Clovis West has had only 2 coaches in the past 8-10 years. Zimmerman was there before and after Roberts. Buchanan's AD coached before Riley, and Riley tried to get out 2 years ago for family reasons. Comacho went up to FCC and won the state title for them, but he too got out of coaching for family reasons. Don't know why McKinney got out of East, but I think Lake will be around for awhile. In any case, most of these programs are pretty strong and seem to be getting better.

jealous much? You sound like a broken record . lol "the best, the best, the best," ad nauseum. Statistics just show the facts. There isn't anything wrong with showing stats, as long as there are no accusations of wrongdoing. People should appreciate this valuable information. It just shows that wrestling for Clovis Schools is beneficial to those who choose to take that big step. -- more math, most coaches who have talented sons and daughters have some obvious advantages over most other athletes. If they are also very gifted and focused, then you have a gold mine that is hard to beat. I don't see how the statistics has "proven" anyone to be phony. It just proves that talented kids get good coaching whether they are originally from Clovis or elsewhere. Clovis actually got a great plug from it. Accept the kudos and move on. -- yeah, I think you are just a Zimmer hater. Clovis West has had great success under his leadership, and they placed high in the state because of it.

Below is my post. What "people skills" do you find offensive in it? Sorry, but you have the wrong person in mind. I am only a wrestling fan that is somewhat acquainted with coach Zimmer as well as a number of other coaches in the area. if you are so unhappy with him, why don't you find another program to affiliate yourself with.

"Zimmer and Cook place 2nd, and with Fisher placing 3rd, it gave CW enough points to place 7th in state. 5 of the top 10 teams were from the central valley. I do consider that great success considering the toughness of the tournament. Just because you don't like coach Zimmer is no reason for you to argue with me about the man. Mr. joe, It seems that you are calling me a liar. If that is the case, then Mr. Steel and Mr. Mammon are also liars, because they confirmed to me over a year ago that Coach Snapp had not been fired but instead chose to resign for personal reasons. They were adamant that at the time they were still hoping that Coach would change his mind and coach wrestling another season. Like I said, all you have to do to confirm this is to call the administrators at Clark.

This is ridiculous. Both of them told me that they were doing everything in their power to try to convince him to coach another year. I know for sure that he wasn't fired. Accept the kudos and move on. -- yeah, I think you are just a Zimmer hater. Clovis West has had great success under his leadership, and they placed high in the state because of it.

Why is it unbelieveable that the C. North coaches were once coaching at CW? Why shouldn't they want to take advantage of getting coaching and teaching jobs in a brand new school? Good luck to them and their teams.

100% of Coach T's 3 boys were in the state finals 3 times. 8 championships. 1 coach. yes, people move into clovis. they move into a lot of areas. the difference is, what clovis does with them AFTER they move into the program. nice analysis. i'm sure people won't respect Coach T or the Clovis program any longer now that you've "proven" him to be a phony.....get a life Chad, move on.

Unbelievable??? As long as moves are full-family and within the CIF guidelines it's no business of ours how they got there - OR WHY. And shame on all of you for trying to turn this into something ugly. Being a competitive athelete means wanting the best competition, the best workout partners, the best coaching. Why shouldn't a family whose child has great potentional want to do everything in their power to help that child live up to that potential. For some kids their sport is the only chance they may have at attending college. And if they are in a crappy situation through no fault of their own, whether that mean a crappy coach or limited program resources then good for them for trying to do what they can to provide their child with great opportunity. And so what if Clovis sits back and soaks it all in. Are you telling me any one of you would REJECT a great kid because they moved into your district. WHAT A JOKE. HAHAHAHAHAHAAA

28 Medals: 20T - 8C; 71% Transfers / 29% Clovis
***Apply the three medals on an enter-district transfer to Clovis: 17T - 11C; 61% Transfer / 39% Clovis

The greatest contributing factor to an outward appearance of success is Multiple State Place Winners. In these years: 8 Multiple SPW; 7T - 1C; 87% Transfer / 13% Clovis: 17 Medals; 88% Transfers / 12% Clovis

To Set The Record Straight

This is a breakdown of Coach T's Move-In & Transfer vs. Home Grown State place winners over the last seven seasons. You can view the individual student athletes at http://www.cloviswrestling.com

For this analysis the Coach's son is excluded. Technically he is a transfer, but is a justified transfer. Analysis Excludes Tirapelle:

SPW=State Place Winners T=Transfer-Move In C=Clovis-Home Grown

2002: 2 SPW; 2T - 0C; 100% Transfer / 0% Clovis
2003: 6 SPW; 5T - 1C; 83% Transfer / 17% Clovis ***One Transfer could be Considered Clovis, Residence Clovis East Area, Boundary Change
2004: 3 SPW; 3T - 0C; 100% Transfer / 0% Clovis ***One Transfer could be Considered Clovis, Residence Clovis East Area, Moved
2005: 1 SPW; 1T - 0C; 100% Transfer / 0% Clovis
2006: 4 SPW; 2T - 2C; 50% Transfer / 50% Clovis ***One Transfer could be Considered Clovis, Residence Clovis East Area, Moved
2007: 5 SPW; 3T - 2C; 60% Transfer / 40% Clovis
2008: 7 SPW; 4T - 3C; 57% Transfer / 43% Clovis

Everyone cares. By recruiting from other teams, you are taking talent off those teams and putting it on your own, giving yourself an unfair advantage on every level. It makes me sick to see all the hard work that goes into a wrestler only to see them transfer to a team like Clovis only for the glory of a state championship. Clovis high is like a snake in the grass, slithering around trying to recruit your wrestlers. Why don't you try winning a state championship with the kids you have instead of recruiting? Over half the team is recruits or transfers. That's something to be proud of.

first of all DD retired. second, he did a crappy job monitoring the athletes grades, third, he pissed off the whole administration by criticizing them from top to bottom. fourth, i never met a FSU wrestler that said that they learned a thing from him. most wrestlers that i met told me that their high school coaches were much better. that says alot. fifth, much like fourth, he cant coach technique for beans, and he is a very negative person as a coach. if you want to bring wrestling back, bring in a really, really good coach. look at all the local talent chose to leave for greener pastures. there was good reason for that.

If Steve Tirepeli cared about the kids on his team half as much as his own kids, than we wouldn't be talking. It's not fair to compare his own kids to the rest of the team. The rest of the team gets the shaft most of the time. Why doesn't he participate in freestyle? Why doesn't he send his team to Naionals? They had a championship team and his seniors had to pay there own way to Senior naionals? That's really sad. Didn't his kids go though? That's what I thought.

Buchanan was hated a few years ago when they were on top. There were so many people talking about how they were recruiting. There were so many people watching every move they made. They had to put up with a lot of stuff. But most of that came from the Clovis High School team. It was talked about a lot on the other site. T-shirts made, coaches threatening, booing every kid, fighting between the parents, t-shirts made for wrestling rooms, coaches fighting with each other. It was horrible. I guess it's true, you reap what you sow. Get used to it, you did it to them now it's your turn to deal with everything that goes along with being champions.

Remember the best is always hated!! Buchanan was hated a few years ago when they were on the top.. no Clovis is hated because they are on the top.. Clovis North is loved because quite honestly.. AT THIS POINT.. they are no THREAT to anyone.. When that program is on top,, they will be hated... just how people are.. hate the great ones!! You are the people that sit on the bottom and hate the one's on top.. my recommendation: get up .. start working like these kids (or have your kids)and you to might end up on top!!!...Are your coaches spending 6 days a week with you/or your kids?? oh and BTW.. What gets me it that there are a lot of Adults writing this bad stuff and being childish!!! There are only a few respectful enough to put their real names!! Also, the funny thing is these coaches and parent are two faced when they probably talk to me in my face and are being friendly then turn around and talk Crap about the program I coach for!! They should just speak their minds to my face instead of Fontin like they do on this form!! These Adults have ruined a good thing about promoting wrestling in the Central Valley and helping in getting Fresno State Wrestling back! But, Hey they ratter Bash and put down teams that are doing successful! We here at Clovis High are NOT intimidated by any Team!! We love the competion from Selma or any other high school in the state! It thrives our kids to work harder and when they win it makes it even better! So Good Luck to Selma and all high schools in CA at the State next year!!!

Hello everyone! This is Eric LeGarreta and I am of Hispanic descent.(to inform those of their racial comments!) Also, I'm a Assistant Wrestling Coach at Clovis High School.(Now on my 8th season) We have an excellent program here and every year us coaches try to make it better! We have a great coaching staff and none of our coaches recruit any kids outside of our Feeder Programs! I wrestled for Selma High and had one of the best teams ever in 1989, winning which is now the Valley/Masters! We should of won State but failed do to so do to lack of preparation! At Clovis High, coaching under Steve and Adam Tirapelli I've learned how to prepare our kids to win these post season meets leading up to the State Tournament! So, don't be upset because our system works and we produce kids that win!

I like says he's becoming a fan of Clovis, but is probably a parent fan or wrestler of Clovis. Your right is obviously Ceremello, same writing style and temper as the other forum. This is too funny. I'm from the southern section and I thought we had problems. But you guys get the Hatfield and McCoy award for keeping this fight going way longer than it should. Central section has a lot of talent. If you could get along and work together and stop fighting, you could easily take over as the most dominant section in the state. Go to Cloviswrestling.com for lineup and roster info once again it is open to the public. Since Cook is NOT at Clovis that question can only be answered hypothetically. Cook can practice anytime he wants, just not at Clovis.

No way should anyone let this thread stray from the original idea. Smoke and mirrors and anything to take the focus off Clovis High. I'm not biting. Let's get back to talking about recruiting. Does Cook have to wait a certain amount of time before he starts practice? How many other jobs are available at Clovis and what weight classes are you short on? Maybe we can all get together and come up with some names so we can have a super team that always wins at all costs.

If CW kids have a problem with Coach Zimmer, I'd like to see them handle that in private, not on a flowrestling forum. Dignity and pride.

That sounds like a bi-polar meltdown to me. thehorns has only pointed out the legal tactics that some schools and programs have successfully used to bring new talent into their programs. Not just for wrestling either, but other high profile sports. It isn't just in Clovis either. Other districts around the state are also involved in such practices. It isn't going to end any time soon either, it is going to get worse before it gets better.

Clovis parents should tell everyone how BAD it is a Clovis. OK everyone stay AWAY it sucks at Clovis. Clovis is bad for wrestling, The coaches do nothing to help their kids. They spend no time with them, miss practice, provide no camps and OBVIOUSLY they don't lift weights and they NEVER win anything. Kids don't get to College who survive such a horrible program so please stay away. Your right, The parents of Clovis should just keep to themselves,be quiet, talk to nobody or just talk crap about their program.

questions......How would you know how parents talk about Clovis in the stands??? have you talked to all of them?? They have befriended everyone, that would include you I take it?? that worked out well. Explain this swooping??? How do you befriend someone who does not like you or Clovis??? you might want to see a Doctor about your illness!!!!!!!

No what the nutty parents do is make their rounds and try befriending everyone they see. Then they all talk about how great it is to be at Clovis high and how wonderful Mr. Tirapelle is. Oh how we worship him. And the next time you see them they say something else to let you know how good they have it. If you do it enough, your bound to find someone unhappy with their coach. That's when they swoop in and really start working on the kid and the family. Subtle, maybe, recruiting, yes. I wonder which parent went to work on Cook. Or was it the coach himself? Coach to coach. Clovis makes me sick. First ones to scream when someone else gets a recruit but first to deny when they get a recruit.

Everyone wants to talk about the two kids who wrestled for Clovis, the lightweights, what about the kids who were declared ineligible because they didn't follow the rules? There was at least one of them. Clovis has coaches who are recruiting, bottom line. But most of the recruiting is done by the parents behind the scenes in the stands. Oh it's happening. Clovis has some nutty parents who are going to succeed no matter what the rules are. It's still recruiting if the team parents are bringing the kids to the program. It's just a little harder to prove.

What does the Clovis West have to lose by attempting to retain one of his athletes? It would be hard to respect a coach that meekly turned the other cheek as his talented athletes got yanked out of his program and ended up in a crosstown rivals wrestling room again.

The Pick Pocket   May 9, 2008 at 9:15am
There seems to be a trend to justify recruiting by saying that a successful program sells itself, the coaches are the hardest working coaches in the world, that the wrestlers work harder than everbody else, that kids are lucky to be a part of a program, and on and on. It's mostly propaganda. I'll pat your back and you pat my back. The two lightweights that transferred to Clovis from within the district filled argueably weak weights for the program. When you get talented kids to work hard together, they improve. But in these cases, what good did it do for kids and the teams that they left? Hard feelings naturally result from this. Finetuning the recruiting game is now the goal of many top ranked sports programs. Pick Pocket Class is now in session. Who teaches that class?

His dad works at clovis west and isn't he a football coach? Why would he leave one of the best football teams around and go to clovis where there 0-10? Only one reason and don't act like it has nothing to do with clovis wrestling being state champions. Clovis unified does a great job of creating champions at all costs and that creates hatred and jealousy. Clovis unified allows this to go on and that's what the nation sees. You can keep blaming the fans that are drawing attention to it but the real wrong is being done by clovis unified and all the schools involved in recruiting. The rest of us just sit by and watach these teams steal each others players and wait for it all to come crumbling down.

All of the Clovis schools are in a league of their own because of the commitment to excellence the district has, which is great. why would any competitive wrestler not want to wrestle for a clovis school? But in fairness I must say the Bakersfields Selmas Maderas and others can be just as competitive and have been throughout the years. In support of Zimmer there seems to be a lot of haters out there. Zimmer is a great coach and has been the head coach of many tough CW tournament teams that placed in the top four in 97' and in the top ten last year. He also won a State Championship as an assistant in 89' so I think he is more han qualified to coach at CW. To all Clovis schools keep up the great work!

even if they are recruiting hot moms and cross breeding for suck-cess, there is no in the hell way they are even guaranteed to win their league... there are some things money just can't buy and can't be coached.

Recruiting. You guys are so pathetic and bitter. Every time some poor high profile kid moves, you all starting whining and crying foul. Not to say that it never happens, but there are many reasons kids change schools. when you have a great program, a winning program, it is natural for people to want to be a part of it. Success breeds success. Period.
Or maybe your program is just a positive one, that brings other things to the table. it is also natural for poeple to want their kids to be in a situation that is benefits them.
And maybe the program they are in isn't working for them. maybe a personality conflict.
there's just lots of things that go into these decisions and recruiting is probably the least common one. I mean it's not like they can offer these kids money or perks. What many of the teams that constantly get accused if this offer is great coaching and great kids. People want a piece of that. No one has to talk any competitor inot wanting to be successful.

recruiting in hs wrestling is gay and just proves that people will do just about anything to win, but to the opposite prvate schools have been doing it for years so it kind evens the playing field, but even with recruiting you still have to have a great program to win state titles

This just shows you why Clovis HS is #1. They will be even better now that everyone is buying into the program. They'll have James Cook next year from CW. Good thing they don't recruit.

Clovis Wrestling's key to success, as is now, is to incorporate various sets of programs throughout the year. This weight training program is one of the components, even for the Spring off-season training.

If you think the technique is terrible here, check out Iowa's Strength training video on here. There strength coach makes a great point, you are not always in a good position in a match. As a wrestler you need explosion from any position. That is not saying you get in a position to hurt yourself, but its more about getting the weight up than doing it with perfect form.

I love the spirit and the commitment of the team. There is no arguing with success, it is working for them. As a strenght coach, I thought some of the technique was horrible, but the most important thing is that they are in there doing it! Great job Coach Tirapelle!

Clovis HS Weights

Uploaded By: Flowrestling
Clovis HS has won eight California State championships where over 800 teams compete for 1 state title. Year in and year out they are in the hunt. Part of the reason is that they are coached by Tirapelles. Adam Tirapelle was a 2001 NCAA champion at Illinois and now he has brought his knowledge back to the central valley.
