If he sucks at wrestling, then how bad must Jon Burns be? Kampen is a solid wrestler who just needs to work on primarily his conditioning at the next level, time will tell.
A few things I noticed..
#1 at the end of the 2nd, the clock took off about 7 seconds.. didn't really matter for the match, but you'd think at an event like this, SOMEONE would have noticed..
#2 Kampen was mainly defensive, and working off Burns' shots.. is that a good strategy? Hell yea. Do I think he can do that against every D1 caliber wrestler? Not a chance. Having great guys around him in Iowa's room will hopefully change that.
#3 The kid has great scrambling ability. Never seems to be out of his comfort zone in scramble situations (a big skill to have come college time.)
I don't think I would have recruited him based on this match if I was the Iowa Staff, but the kid definitely has potential (size, speed, etc).. just my 2 cents. Then again, I'm not the recruiting staff for a dominant National Champion team.. so what do I know? lol
in april that nick venditto defeated tanner kampen in the quarters, jon burns in the semis, and chamberlain in the finals in freestyle... if venditto can actually wrestle this season instead of getting in trouble he should be on his way to be ranked #1 in the nation. His junior year should be a good one
burns didnt earn the win was broken in this match basically gave up
refs didnt help out on the missed takedown call at 1:30 and kampen ran off the mat at times
After this you would think kampen is so good. But he cant really compete on the National Level. He went out to senior nationals and lost to James English a PA kid who didnt place.. and then in wrestlebacks he lost to Joiner who took 8th..
and english lost to Reid From NJ who didnt place. so he lost to good guys but def not a top national caliber kid.
its all about next time... couldnt prove it when it mattered..i'll believe burns is better when i see it. I dont care if kampen didnt shoot a lot in this match, he still won. I doubt he would be too worried about stalling bc he was winning by enough where it didnt matter, but i dont see that much stalling when your scoring points
Burns is a FARRRRRRRRR better wrestler and this was BY FAR not his best. It is understandable that if anyone who DIDN'T DO THEIR RESEARCH were to underestimate him, yet...If the two were to meet up again. Burns would give Kampen the business. No name Kampen just got lucky against the REAL champ JON BURNS!!!
I only saw Kampen take one shot that probably was only meant to make it look like he was doing any work. I hate watching wrestlers like him who just want to tie up the whole time and not do anything, and I hate wrestling opponents like him even more than I hate watching them.
Don't try to slant the information on here. I know for a fact that at last year's dream team match Sammy White was about 4.5 lbs over Farnsworth's weight. Watch the tape and you'll see Ohio's 4th best 103 that year work Farnsworth 12-6. (that six included 4 kickouts)
That kid is huge!! He tied Burns up and slowed him down alot.
Jon did not wrestle his best, obviously, and looked very very tired/out of shape. I know i'll get blasted but i think Jon would get the better of Kampen if they wrestled again. Kampen wrestled a great match but didn't really do much (that he scored off of, at least.) offensively.
nc wrestler: Kampen is GARBAGE?! HA! Are you serious? You must know nothing about wrestling if you think he is garbage! I agree that he should and will be a nationally ranked wrestler! He straight up BEAT BURNS! Thats not saying much for Burns now is it! Learn how to spell Iowa!
for the comments on farnsworth vs white matchup last year, farnsworth made weight, while white didnt. In fact white was 11 pounds overweight. they still let him wrestle. Don't give too much base to the dream team event.
I really think kampen would be a nationally ranked wrestler anyways, hes just had no exposure... he is a tough kid...He's garbage? he has great hips and is strong as an ox
burns... get it together bud. he looked tough for the first couple seconds in the first period. just ran outta steam. that other kid has noooooo offense worth mentioning... not hard to hit a go behind on shitty shots.
When u can win Jr nationals, Ironman, Beat Mason, Pin everyone at states in the first round i think ur prove, yeah so he look better durning the season, give him a break its off season cant he just have a OFF MATCH well im pretty sure if they ever come across eachother BURNS well kill this kid cause honest like the kid just defend the whole time, if burns didnt shot the match would have been boring. Burn is still #1 Nation in my book and he will show anyone y at Fargo and in college. Iwoas kid is garbage honestly

Burns looked really bad the entire match. Poor shots, and he had no sense of urgency in that third period, moping around the mat after going out of bounds, he showed no heart at all, like he could have cared less if he had won or not. Kampen did look good, but his takedowns were off of Burns' poor shots. And the back points he got was a pretty cheap call, but he definitely outwrestled Burns.
and burns will be pretty damn good in college when he figures out that he doesnt have to shoot all the time. he's going to nebraska so theyll know what to do with him considering the kind of wrestlers they have on their team now who are just like him
Kampen just kicked his butt. Goes to show you what NC wrestling is all about. How many NCAA champions come out of NC? I'll bet few. I know they didn't even wrestle their HS championships together until about 15 years ago, they use to be held in various gyms for different classes.

hes a man

If iowa's kid is garbage, what does that say for Burns? He got flat out beat, and thats all there is to it.
but really neither looked worth much. BY THE WAY, DID HE WRESTLE ST. JOHN?
