This goes to show how superior PA high school wrestling is compared to the other states. Schools like Iowa and OK State raid PA territory to get their good wrestlers, but Cael Sanderson is going to put an end to that. Tom Brands and John Smith are going to have some serious problems starting in the 2009-2010 season.

mcdonough is having a very good redshirt season under brands this year. oliver is also having a stellar season. the only match that i have seen compare is against cody garcia of UNO. mcdonough dominated and oliver lost. by the way, oliver is a terrible loser, cussing and breaking things
So....you dislike Oliver because he would NOT let you pin yourself to avoid a beating? I think you embarrassed yourself if the first part of your statement is true.
why are people calling mcdonough good? all he does is lock up and push through. I agree with Being Honset, he's great in high school, but college is a whole different game. He got absolutely shucked in the first cause he just leans forward all the time. Maybe brands will teach him how to shoot.
I am a die-hard Hawk, but I see McDonough struggling at the next level -- he is not exceptional on his feet, he is not quick, he is not overpowering, and he is not overpowering enough to be a "goer"...he has 5 years in the Iowa room, so anything can happen, I guess. I've seen bigger turnarounds (I know he is real accomplished at the high school level, but I am just diagnosing his transition to the big leagues given his skill set)...and I know he is a real sharp kid in the classroom, so things might surprise me / you.
oliver was just toying with this boy, no question. If he wanted to could have had the TF anytime. This was a man wrestling a boy. Not to say McDonough is a chump, just shows how good Oliver is and that he is on a completely different level.
Im not going to lie. McDonough will never come close to beating oliver. Jordan is already on an all american level and he has yet to be coached under john smith (whos style will match up beautifully with Olivers). This kid Oliver should see the NCAA finals more than once.

Not to be mean, but JO absolutely DESTROYED this other kid. I don't even know who he is but I bet McDonugh is actually pretty legit. Oliver is on a whole nother level lol. Not even close
So you're telling me, McDonough is going to close this gap just off the coaching of Tom Brands. Not going to happen, not to mention Oliver will be under the tutelage of John Smith. Oliver is just going to get better on his feet, which is scary!!!
this guy is matt mcdonough, 3 time AA at fargo in free and was a cadet champ. Im sure he beat many non-iowans to win it. Hes ranked 3rd in the nation... he must not be too bad... maybe you should look things up before you talk because it seems to be coming out of your
McDonough couldn't take him down or hold him down. He must be a good wrestler winning 4 titles, but Jordan is on a different level. And yeah, Jordan looked gassed, but that just tells you how good he is when a 4 timer cant take him down even when he's gassed.
The comments are out of control. Both of them are good wrestlers and they did a good job. No need to trash talk about either wrestlers, McDonough or Jordan. Each of them have impressive records and should be proud of their accomplishments, with both of them wrestling at noteworthy colleges. They both wrestled hard and gave it their best shot, so the negative comments should cease.
I'm still laughing at the Iowa Fan's post....Oliver is on a wayyyy different level than Matt. If he wouldn't have ran out of gas it would have been a blood bath. So when you say 2 out of 3 times goes to matt you are mistaking BIG time....Maybe one in a million!..and that's if Oliveer is very unhealthy.
My boy Jordan played with McDonough and made him look like a first year wrestler. McDonough looked like a fish out of water. He is lucky JO isn't in his best shape or he would have gotten teched or pinned.
did you expect iowa to win? there were actually some very good matches, but there were also a couple beatings which there is going to be for things like this... Im glad they did it

They got killed, it almost wasn't fun to watch it was kinda like the first round of a tournament where all the good kids destroy all the bad kids
Jordan and Alex Meade are cousins, that might be why they wrestle alike, and for the iowa fan who said that oliver would get beat 2 out of 3 times by that kid, i think that might be the funniest thing ive heard all week, seeing as that Jordan comes from Pennsylvania, the best wrestling state in the country, won 3 state titles and lost 5 times in his entire high school career, and 4 of those losses were freshmen year... this kid doesnt even belong on the same mat as him, lets get serious
yeah Graff (from CO) could have won that match at the dapper dan though, there was a number of times where he almost took him down but they barely went out of bounds
it was a good match wrestled by oliver though

I think that Matt just flat out got beat up...
