Welch just beat Winston 9-1 at NCAA's! They are both great wrestlers and even though tied at one a piece, I think that Welch had the edge in that he defeated 3 other wrestlers that Winston lost to. Congrats to both though on stellar true freshman campaigns!
They finally met up, and Winston didn't disappoint. I'm sure most of you know by now, he beat Welch 6-1 at the Midlands. To be fair, it was 1-1 with 30 seconds left and Winston put him on his back for 5.
Welch played football in the Fall, and wrestling and soccer in the Winter. He had a tournament where he wrestled in the semifinals, then went and played a soccer game, and finished the day with a victory in the finals of the tournament. He did wrestling practice and soccer practice almost every day in the Winter.
the only reason yohn got that takedown on welch is because welch had ben playing football and was the team captain of the ncs champs.

WOW, the Iowa style in reverse. Ref, it is stalling if I cut my opponent yet he makes no attempt to get to his feet(stays on his knees). Funny how refs in Iowa call everyone for stalling but their own.
your an idiot cody yohn dropped to 160 he ranked like 7th but welch dominated him a 171 that match wasnt close and besides that winston didnt impress me at nationals where he only beat some kid from LA 10-2 and polz and howe didnt show up so what did winston prove nothing hes a scrub compared to welch face it durty jusey aint crap without blair

Not positive but I think the Dream Team matches are done. However, I think that Datdude is right - Howe would be a better opponent for Welch than Winston.

Am I the only one who thought stepping on your opponent is horribly unsportsmanlike? So what if he broke his opponents spirit, stepping on him was crossing the line, if i was edgington I would've got up and cold cocked welch in the face.
Welch is the man!! Can't wait to see how he does in the NCAA's next March in St. Louis. I'll be there. He will definately be a NCAA champion in the furture.

Interesting FILA result - Winston lost in the quarters and then again to Manuel. Another common opponent as Welch beat Manuel 2 years ago in the Cal State finals when Welch was a sophomore and Manuel a senior....And I would not be surprised to see Welch compete as a true freshman next year.
its probably going to be two more years before we see him wrestle. he'll redshirt next year. i would love to see welch and herbert matchup in the training room.

Welch is not impressive, he techs the Iowa state champ, who a week before had beaten the Illinois state champ. Welch also majored the Pennsylvania state champ 22-11 with 11 takedowns.
apparantly to earn a spot on the dream team you have to get a tatoo on your thigh, also why didnt they have kaleb evans wrestle 160 for iowa that would have been a much better match i think. lastly i know a lot of you will and moan about this but i was not that impressed with welch

Welch is definitely a true stud. It will be hard to beat him next week at the fila juniors. Loaded 163lb class with Welch, Winston,Howe, Covington, not to mention Iowa States Reader. What a meat grinder.
