Did Russia bring their big guns? I don't think so. We sure didn't rape any russians at worlds or olympics(cejudo aside)
Also, we are not allowed to think that anyone is doing anything right because that is the halo effect, and if you think that someone is doing something right for a particular reason, you're just utilizing the halo effect.
I used to workout alongside the wrestlers at 6:30am MWF. Their work ethic is and has ALWAYS been that intense. The start overs aren't just for show either. Josh and his interns are continually pacing the weightroom calling people out.
Tamillow brings out the big guns with the doping allegations.
Looking at the halo that hangs around Pennsylvania in HS, Iowa in College, and Russia internationally and trying to copy them with very little idea of how they actually function is a bit amusing, or a failure to realize that there are a myriad of differing views on how to do the right, and multiple different ways to get the job done.
IMHO Russia dominates because of Form, technique. They stay in good position and execute. Therefore, Good form=Good, Bad form=Bad across the board is easy to see, you get a lot more out of doing something right 1 time than doing it wrong many times.
In the Russia conversation, Russia continues to be dominant because of one thing and one thing only, Nafta Moskva. End of story.
Hmmm... throwm, I can't tell if you are mocking me or if you seriously support my anger issues. I have to believe you wouldn't mock me because you understand that I have anger issues, and yes I will have to rip your head off. I can only take credit for the first part of the quote, the second part I was trying to offend Candcbrothers. Of course I know that geometrically doesn't work in the context but you don't say nuclear if you're trying to make a fool of George W.(which isn't hard)
Either way, whether you are mocking me or not, you are just using the halo effect for the Russians instead of Iowa. You are acting as if the Russians are doing everything right because the win medals. I wonder how much you know about international wrestling. Do you just know Russia is good? Do you know how they train? Do you have a place to talk about it?
The Russian kids club came to America this past year and had a dual with the kids at Overtime. We raped them. All they could was back bridge. Let's be honest for a second. A lot of guys out there are doing performance enhancing drugs that are under the radar of WADA. (the world anti-doping agency) The United States is stricter than most on our testing. The thing the Russians may be doing right is some form of performance enhancing drugs.
You can get used tires like that for free if you find a place that sells new ones. They might be a little dingy when you get them but its nothing a little soap and water cant fix. Just look in the phone book or internet for a shop that works on big trucks and sells tires/equipment. Im sure the owner will gladly give you as many tires as you want at no charge becasue it actually costs them money to get rid of them.
Correlation does not equal causation. i.e. Just because Iowa does that type of lifting and they are winning (correlated) does not mean the lifting is why they won (causation) they mightve won due to technique, or coaching strategy or not having as many injuries etc. plus.... they didnt have a national champ this year hehe. okay im just being a jerk on that last part.
First, I think the phrase is not "geometrically"...but "exponentially".
Second, What do you bet that the coaches were gonna start the circuit over a couple of times regardless of how hard the guys worked??
Thirdly, I have a Master's in Exercise Physiology and think that more people should be humble about what they think they know and realize that there is far more to be learned than has already been learned.
stand on a spring scale as you are doing military presses ,if the weight changes more than a couple of ibs.through the range of motion this is an example of too much inerta in strength training.
Can anybody post a place to get tires like the ones in the video(3:58) I am located in MO(stl) if that helps. I have been trying to get a few tires, but could not find what I was looking for. I would prefer to get new or extreemly clean tires. I do not want to get a set of busted filthy tires becase I want to use them in our weight room.

Ouch.... a bit angry! Sounds like you are ready to rip someones head off.
I've got it, we should send you to the worlds instead of Varner or Herbert. It sounds like you are ready!!!! All we need to do now is to get the Russians to make a stupid comment about how they run their local kids club practices... hmmm... I guess we should write the russian 96 kilo guy.
Dear Mr. Gatsalov,
Would you please tell Mike Tamillow that all russians do is multi-muscle lifting and that isolation curls are for girls and govenors of california. Please Please Please, we really want a gold medal at the world championships.
Thanks

The only people who make sense are RRR, RRRR, and RRRRR. Since I have to assume they are all the same person since RRR corrected RRRR and acted like he was correcting himself (not to mention the similarities in name. your parents should have given you a better name like rover or rockey or rufus), it saddens me that so few people know what they are talking about.
First: Yes form matters. Form always matters so you don't get hurt. Plus good form will help you continue to use good form. It means you are using the same muscles every time, and therefore have an opportunity to strengthen them. If you have bad form, it is usually a slightly different bad form every time and therefore nothing even gets stronger.
Second: Assuming Iowa is doing everything right because they are winning is called the Halo effect. You assume that the guys who are winning (or even just the guys you idolize because you don't know better) are doing everything right. In reality you don't need to do everything right to win. You just need to do a few things right. Those few things could be simply having good genetics and a few coaches who remind you how good you are and expect you to win.
Third: training any muscle is better than training no muscle, even if it is just a part of the muscle. It causes the body to create testosterone, which is why my strength coach told me to do squats to get bigger biceps. Leaving a dead spot may be bad but half range stuff isn't by nature bad, it isolates a certain part of the muscle. If you can't do full range, doing half range is fine. There is nothing against getting bigger muscles and it's better to do something than nothing. If incorporated right it will actually be more beneficial because it will be harder to fatigue certain muscles that half range motion can isolate.
Lastly: did you really just say conditioning and stregnth training should never cross into each other? Really? WTF do you call wrestling? Hmmm.... it's conditioning. Hmmm.... it's also stregnth training. It's the perfect middle ground. Please explain to me how you train your kids, because it sounds like they can't wrestle, that would increase the chance of over training and injury geometrically.
Great workout. I'll use a varied form of the plate workout with my HS team this season. Thanks for the inspiration Coach Charles, great work Sun Devils and thanks for the coverage Flo.
In case no one noticed this is their version of "Hell Week". I highly doubt they train this way on a consistent basis. I think these workouts are more designed to test these guys and push them to their limits both physically and mentally. Just my own humble opinion...
Everyone's jokin you right now because you're up here running your mouth like you know what you're talking about. you probably barely wrestled jv on a middle school squad
Brandon Hancock said: is that why iowa sucks so much? do ur homework before posting
iowa does well because they have a line-up of amazing 'wrestlers.' they succeed regardless of how they train because everyone on the line-up is essentially bred their entire life for the sport. in fact, at last years ncaas, their performance, even in their own opinions, was lackluster and poor. they were predicted to dominate and almost lost.
they work hard, and they've been doing it their entire lives. that is why they win. training smart doesn't always mean you're training smart.
Brandon Hancock said: you're an idiot. it might create dead spots, but your still getting the weight up. wrestelrs don't care about forum when they lift (at least the best ones don't) because they're not just going to be standing their curling a bar are they? no, they're going to be moving all the time, using their hips and back for just about every movement. i'm tired of explaining this.
this is stupid. why do wrestlers drill technique for hours on end? because form doesn't matter? give me a freaking break. i agree that a wrestler isn't going to work to isolate muscles, and that a wrestler will work more on the movement and treating the body as a set of muscles, rather than a collection of separate muscles. but saying that the best wrestlers don't care about form is a stupid misconception.
Give a couple of examples where momentum and strength training where combined, seriously I am interested in reading more about the workout - I do this with my middle school kids alot - combining conditioning and strength training that is....

if youre sessions are so hard then why isnt flo at your school showing how hard you work.
come on now, stop trying to be so cool. no one likes a hater.

I am very impressed with ASU's strength and conditioning program. They are definitely doing everything they can to get to that next level. They have great facilities and a good level of intensity amongst the athletes. It will be interesting to see how far they take their training to peak come time NCAA's. I guess we will just see...but so far, they're looking tough!
Great workout and love the coverage. Keep it coming Flo. What great equipment they have. I would love to have some of those things available for my team, but everytime flo puts something like this up, I find new things for my guys to do.
Why do they have to keep starting over ?
and What The Heck did he do to bust his head open.?
Why does it seem like all these guys like wearing a bikini bottom (shorts)
Bright and early on day three of hell week. The team meets in the weight room for a weight circuit put together by strength coach Josh Storms. September 13, 2009

momentum and half range of motion should not be part of a strength training program,it creates deadspots in your strength curve.
Thanks Flo.
