Go Clarissa! I love flowrestling. Where the !@#$ are the T-shirts?
She's good, for sure but lets remember she won worlds the Olympic year, it's still an amazing accomplishment but I think she did very well 5th is good for her.
I'm not sure how that justifies her wrestling. If she could not compete at her best, why did she wrestle? Also, in most cases there is more than a mental difference between first and fifth.
getting injured even slightly before a major competition sometimes has a
bad emotional effect on athletes. especially when the difference between first and 5th place is the mental game. you can see how it affected her
mentally and the result was a lesser performance than she and her coaches wanted.
I love Clarissa she is the bomb!!! I met her at Fargo she's so down to earth and really love wrestling. You can see that she put her heart into it and never make excuses. WOW
The Russian wrestling federation and the coaches pick who will wrestle in the tournament. There have been several instances where the national champ does not wrestle at the WC or the Olympics. Russia puts the person they see as having the best chance to put up the best result on the mat. While I don't fully agree with the statement, I also do not think a wrestler should have the absolute spot if they are injured. The country put forward the resources for the athletes compete. In that sense, the athlete are accountable to the country too.

do you know this for a fact? how do you know that injured russians haven't won world championships, or injured americans, japanese, etc. angel escobedo won his ncaa title with a badly injured shoulder and this is just one example.
I agree KC. she earned the spot and if she felt she could go then she wrestles. its obvious that she felt she could go. she even said she was rough with her practice partner. a lack of focus is what made her lose, not her injury. kind of like our olympians this past olypics. it was the individuals lack of focus that cause their problems.
great job clarissa you inspire not only female wrestlers but a lot of young men also!! thanks for your service and hope to see you plenty more in the future!
As much as she is wrestling for her country she also earned the right to be here for herself. As americans we get excited and get behind our athletes and i agree that they are wrestling for their country but they are also wrestling for themselves. An world champion is good for our country but it means as much if not more for the indivudal so i do not fault her for going out and competing she earned her spot. If we plugged people in that would be best at the day and time then we would wrestle everyone in every match best of three at the world trials

The alternate should have wrestled. At USA Wrestling no one ever makes the tough call (in the interest of "fairnesss"). In Russia the person best prepared to win wrestles. This is true, and I'll put my name to it. The US needs to look putting another wrestler in the spot of an injured one.Clarissa is a class act, but if an alternate could have been ready and healthy they should have sat Clarissa

That sucks! You can see her bummed out. Hang in the Clarissa. You've got the tools and the work ethic and undoubtedly the talent. Take this and move up with it. Next go around it's time to come in with a huge chip on el shoulder. Keep up the good work!!
Head up Clarissa. You are a major part of our women's programs around the country. My family loves watching you compete and think you are an amazing person. Many women around us look up to you. Thanks for everything.
2008 World Champion Clarissa Chun did not have the performance she was looking for at the 2009 World Championships in Herning Denmark. Despite feeling great during her warmups Clarissa did not have the fire she usually has during competition. September 23, 2009
