Great match. Thanks for sharing this one. I think Poeta might be one of the best wrestlers never to win an NCAA championship.

Am I the only person who thoroughly dislikes the Paulson wrestling style? I can't believe the ref handed Paulson that win over Henning at the NCAAs. Henning killed him, had him on his back for more than 5 seconds and they called potentially dangerous and didn't even give Henning any points, even though he had Paulson on his back for a good 5 seconds before the potentially dangerous call was made.

zehHard to believe these two are the same weight. Paulson looks so much bigger. Guess I'm a little prejudiced in favor of the guys who can get a takedown when they need it. Poeta wrestled a great match right up to the point where he tried to run out the clock. I hate it when guys try to do that.

poeta wasn't locked around the legs, and his head wasn't out to the side yet. even after he did that, the ref still had to get around to the other side to make sure. so he was still a few second late giving the td.

An exciting match. I remember watching it on TV when it aired here in Chicago. The officiating was a little weird. On the second takedown, they were in the same position for about 15 seconds, and then the ref finally gave the takedown. What changed? The stalling calls were a little iffy as well, considering the fact that Poeta was up 3 takedowns to 1 at that point. Both these guys are great though, and it's hard to believe Poeta was never a national champ.

Good contrast in styles in this match. The leg attacks and quickness of Poeta vs. the upper body strength and position / hand fighting of Paulson. Some good scramables late in this one. I really like the overhead camera angle. I wish they'd do this more often in the televised matches.
