Letters scored the only takedown and came out on the winning end of every scramble. Still, he wrestled defensively the whole match and should have been hit with stalling a couple of times in the first period alone. Not a style I like to watch.

I heard from a reliable source that Hendricks was talking smack. He told Letters, "See in the NCAA finals, if you make it." A lot of balls to say to the return Champ, I'm a big Letters fan but Hendricks prediction did come true. Say what you want about the him but the kid talked the talk and walked the walked the walk, and lost like a champion ( after Perry) always respected that.

He lost to a very young Mark Perry in the semi's with Perry throwing in legs and shortening the match. Troy could not overcome being rode out. I was a bit surprised. I was hoping to see him work over Hendricks in the finals. It was reported that Hendricks said to Troy after Troy beat him in the match shown here that he see him in the NCAA finals ... IF he (Troy) got there. sadly prophetic.

I remember wondering if these guys ever met up. Does anyone know who beat Letters at the national tourney?

Even though Hendricks usually played the villian, I think he was good for college wrestling. He always went hard and wore his emotions on his sleeve adding to the drama.

Letters never wrestled Pendleton. He wrestled Tyrone Lewis twice, losing in a dual meet and beating him in the NCAA finals. Letters was one of my favorites. As good as he was on his feet & in scrambles, he was also one of the best wrestlers on top. He knew how to put points on the board from top position. I always felt that he started to fade in his Jr. year. Just didn't seem to have the aggressiveness of his first 2 years. Still had a great career 1,2,3 at NCAA is nothing to sneeze at.

I saw no heat from Hendricks...and I did not see letters fade he wrestled the same that whole match you make it sound like Hendricks won?

Storppey   July 31 at 9:44pm
at end of match it looked like Hendricks said a few things to letters. Was it just "good match" or something more. If so I would say he is a good sport. Considering the way Letters just hung on and drapped over Hendricks when he got in on a leg. And Letters soaked that cross body ride for alot of time early in the match. Ref should have restarted them sooner. I would have hit letters for stalling alto sooner.

good match but troy didnt really dominate. he won a good match but its not like he made johnny his bit ch or anything. and the announcer was great but also wasnt bad he did his job just fine.

Anonymous Coward   July 31 at 7:20pm
I disagree 100% about the announcer, this is the same meat head who announces the Virginia duals...He is in love with his own voice, and as an athlete, all that hot air coming out of the p.a. system is distracting.

I heard that Hendricks said "I'll see you in the finals... if you get there" which would be very prophetic if true.

See, now this is how an announcer is supposed to announce a wrestling match. If guys like this announced the NCAA finals on ESPN then they would be a hell of a lot more exciting and appealing to non wrestlers.

Who had the last laugh? Go Hendricks.

Ed The Doober   July 31 at 4:54pm
Hendrick's frustrations in this match are understandable. Troy didn't want to wrestle at the end of the match, and Johnny likes to wrestle. It was in bad taste but understandable. Troy was a beast from top in this match.

Look at Hendricks run his mouth after getting dominated. He is such a punk! I don't think I have ever witnessed a wrestler with such poor sportsmanship. Every match he wrestles, win or lose, he acts like a buffoon!
