What a completely pointless argument. So he's 18 going into his senior year, why is that a big deal? I have to admit I highly doubt his parents thought about this as part of the reason he is old for his grade. Odds are he started kindergarten a year late, because he did not have the social skills when he was five. My younger brother is in that same boat, and he doesn't play sports, however if he was a talent like stieber, everyone would choose to criticize. Bottom line is this. Logan Stieber is a monster, and could surely jump into college next year, if he had graduated. His being old for his grade has nothing to do with his success in this tournament, so stop pretending that the reason he is so good is because he has an extra year of maturity. Its a pointless argument.

maybe that's the reason he's 18 and a junior in high school...some people are so ignorant!

There are some people that have no idea how incredibly hard and extremely physical this weekend was for anyone that wrestled. I don't care how old you are, but remember he is a young man at 18 years of age and is wrestling older and more physically mature men than he. I think that says it all...HE'S GOT GUTS!!!!!!!! GREAT JOB! LOGAN...BE PROUD!

I don't get the age arguement. He placed 3rd at the SENIOR nationals. He was by far the youngest kid in the tourney.
He follows the rules in the state he lives in. It isn't his fault he is older than most and again it isn't illegal.
Remember that now kids go all day everyday in kindergarden. Not every 5 y.o is ready from a social standpoint and this will ultimately make us have many more 19y.o graduating HS.
Read the book called Outliers by Malcom Gladwell. It deals with the concept of age cutoffs and reaching elite status at your sport. The numbers are staggering.
Bottomline. Logan is a rare talent!

He just turned 18 on Jan.24 . That means he will graduate at 19 and start his freshman year at 19. What's the problem ?

In North Carolina, a kid cannot play sports if he turns 19 before Oct. 15 of that school year. That is also the cutoff for attending school. If you are born after that date, you have to enroll the following year. Many parents hold boys back because they often develop slowly. Steiber could have been born after the Ohio cutoff and then held back a year.

Check the birth dates of the kids in the finals at Fargo. Most are old for their class, and a high number are 19 in the junior finals. Their age is an advantage.
This happens in baseball (the Little League cutoff date in August 1 and the best players are usually born in August, September and October -- this shows up in the major leagues where a disproportionate number of the players were born in those months) and all other sports with age cutoffs.

A lot of these kids (wrestlers) redshirt in school just for wrestling...I don't agree, but it happens all the time...when I say redshirt I mean it in jest, but I have heard the parents refer to it that way.

awesome job. You see the hunger. he sees himself on the podium at the olympics and he is working for it. Plus he's working like a madman to get it. It's like arnold once said the lion climbing the hill has more hunger than the lion on top, but when the lion on top wants to eat, he's at the top. That will be logan at the top and hungry, his attitude and humble nature don't allow him to not work hard. I love to see the fight in a dog especially a one that is small and running with the big dogs.
