No Conditioning   June 1 at 9:22am
Go back and watch the match again Jerome was completly gassed out. If the match would have continued there is know way he would of won. He faked the injury, to take a rest. He took the conditioning completly out of the match. I guess its easier the actually putting the work in and conditioning.

My 8th grader is currently choosing his high school. He went and shadowed at Iggy, Ed's and Walsh. Took the tests for each school and got into each school. We factored all options. Academics are all strong with each school. I cannot believe what I saw at this year’s state tourney. For those of you who think that I would want my son’s future (hopefully) state title to be upstaged by some idiot coach are kidding. My son is the one doing the work, their coach may be there to facilitate them in achieving their goals but to take his glory away from him. Very sad for Jerome. It was his title. Yes his coach was a major factor in helping Jerome achieve his goal but it was his title. Show class when you win or when you lose. Ed’s coaches do that as to walsh coaches. I am sure coach hatta was not happy with the act that his head coach put on especially against his former school. This was pretty sad way to promote your school with a victory lap. I am embarrassed for him and how disrespectful it was to gus. I know that heff or jayne would not be doing a victory lap if gus or anyone else would have won.

This may not be the prettiest match to watch, but it is a stellar example of what happens, when two, very good, and evenly matched wrestlers go head-to-head. Both gave 100%. Robinson's superior hand control neutralized Sako's offense through much of the match, while enabling a deep penetration shot in the first period, earning him an early two-point advantage. Even so, Sako made some great shots throughout the match and managed to get good penetration on the single leg on more than one occasion. These wrestlers' abilities to counter those singles with rock-hard whizzers and great hip movements, would have frustrated most any high school opponent. Most importantly, neither one of these boys ever stopped, staying continually on the hunt for that championship. Tom Milkovich, Pat Milkovitch, and many other Ohio NCAA champions, would probably tell you that one of the essential keys to their victories on the national level, came down to learning how to win matches by one point, when the chips were down, and energy spent.

Exactly Mrs. Robinson. Your son's coach should have never done something stupid enough to draw the attention away from Jerome but obviously he did or these post wouldn't exist.

KUDOS to our son Jerome. For those who knows him they would understand why his coach did what he did. Jerome has had to overcome alot of issues to get where he is today and no one knows that better than his coach. To St. Ed's and especially Jamie and Gus- We believe that in order to be the best, you have to wrestle the best. Over the last three years Jerome has had to wrestle you guys and you have helped him get to this point and for this we say THANKS! The wrestling community should congratulate Jerome instead of focusing on the Victory Lap. To Flowrestling:Thanks for the footage, everytime I turn on my computer, I watch the match. It gets distracting with all of the negative comments about Ignatius Coach and what he did. Lets focus on the subject at hand and continue to congratulate all of the 2009 Ohio State Wrestling Placers.

The state championships were awesome! The thrill of seeing two four time state champs (David Taylor and Collin Palmer), seeing Kyle Lang finally win 1st place (and celebrate with a back flip), and watching St. Ignatius produce two state champs (Jerome Robinson and David Habat) was unforgettable. Having watched the Ignatius team for the past three years, I have seen the hard work that has gone into making wrestlers into state champions. Coach Sullivan was genuinely excited (not classless as others have suggested). It was his first state champ! Let the guy celebrate!

It's funny to see all the hillbillies at states who's schools send 2 or 3 kids that fail to place every year. These are the same people that bash Ed's kids because they are flat out better wrestlers and kids. I can't stand that everyone cheers against St. Eds at states every year, its a jealousy thing. The best part about it is that the Ed's fans don't bash other schools, and all you hear from respected coaches like Buxton, Jordan, Roy Hall, Martin, and every other coach of a program that knows what its like to win is how much they respect St. Edward, our fans and coaches. Watch interviews on here with these coaches you will see what I mean.

The coach made a very bad move. The showed very little sportsmanship but showing up both kids, esp sako by not sticking around to shake his hand after the match.

Anonymous, ever see the famous video of Jimmy V running around like a lunatic after winning the Big Dance?

Anonymous Coward   March 9 at 2:58pm
So the head coach acted like a buffoon and disregarded any sportsmanship that he had. Interesting when he yelled at Habat for his celebration. The fact that so many people accept the excuse that the man was happy that they don't expect him to be courteous after the match reflects poorly upon coaches and fans alike. There is a code amongst wrestlers and coaches. Sullivan knows it and so do the kids.

So the head coach took off running around, the fact of the matter his assistant coach stayed cool and collected and shook Sako's hand.

Name one thing about Sako you don't like. The fact that he has a 4.0, 1st and 2nd in the state. Or that he works with little kids all the time. Or that he is a perfect gentleman when you speak to him. Or that he he is a fierce competitor. Maybe because he is humble when he wins and respectable when he loses. (Like going to shake a coaches hand who is running around like an idiot). If you hate Sako either he beat your kid or you don't know him. Go get a job and do something worthwhile. The one thing about these forums is those who have been there and done it can very easily tell which one of you haven't. Sullivan does owe Sako an apology and if he doesn't his school should do it for him.

GREAT MATCH! I dont think what they coach did was wrong he was very excited for his kid. and for the St Ed fan which stated about the hillbilly schools sending just one or two kids well them schools dont recruit wrestlers like St Eds and some others. SO If schools didnt recruit they would not be as good anyhow. So dont recruit and see where u stand then!

Coach needs to act like he has been there before (maybe he hasnt, still no excuse) - totally classless move on his part. He owes someone an apology. If he doesnt pull this STUNT we are all here congratulating Robinson, instead we focus on a coachs antics. Think about it coach

stop bashing sullivan... in the heat of the moment he celebrated BIG DEAL its his first champ ever and the school's first in 16 years....get off his back and don't act like its a big deal bc he didnt shake sako's hand... the other coach was there and what about sulzer who has yet to shake the other coaches hand this year regardless of win or loss

Anonymous Coward   March 8 at 8:41pm
Seriously he has a responsibility before he celebrates. What would they say if Sako walked off without shaking hands.

#9
Serious   March 8 at 7:29pm
The coach of that team is classless and was wrong to run the lap around the arena. He didn't even stay to shake Sako's hand. He must be embarrassed after realizing what he did. It's interesting to see what people who aren't used to winning do when they actually win something. Robinson wrestled a great match, and is a great kid, but his coach is a joke.

The coach from ignatius is one of the best/ classiest coaches in NE OHIO. Also the kid from ignatius( J. Robinson) has taken a long road to the top after being screwed as a freshman in the semis against jamie clark from ed's. He also beat the ed's kid (G. Sako) at districts in the finals so i wouldnt call that luck. They are all great kids and I look forward to seeing them this summer & next year
