he was thrown off the team...i believe they found him passed out drunk on the campus or something. penn state wanted no part of that regardless of his talent.
well, i could understand that if it was true but i highly doubt that was what happened or that he was kicked off the team. do you have some sort of information or link you could provide showing that is the case?

He's The Man   February 26 at 1:52pm
The rules got changed about 3 or 4 times because Kolat beat somebody's a$$ and then got screwed out of a world title 3 or 4 years in a row. But I've never seen him complain about it in any interviews. It wasn't fair at the time, but I think he's left those things in the past.

Yes, its true...his opponent was gassed out and he kept tying his laces to get a breather. So now you can't use it as an excuse to stall in todays matches.

My dad said the reason we have to tap our laces is because a guy beat Kolat by stopping to tie his shoes all the time. Is that true?

Kolat is a beast. A great motivator and teacher. My son and I met the guy for a 9 hour training camp and it might of been one of the greatest times we had in the sport.

This guy's got the heart of a champion. If you watch youtube clips of him around '99-'00 he just kills everybody. If those kids get even a small amount of his determination they'll go very far.
