They both should have wrestled in different weight classes but
I know Section 11 has some great wrestlers in almost every weight
class each year.
Id like to see more competition with both Section 1 and
Section 11. The only other time both Sections meet are
at the Eastern Classic tournament and the NYS tournament.

They are not technically that goo. They are sucking like crazy to get to 98 for Fargo, dumb. They'll only place because the bracket is weak.

The Dardanes are as tough as they come. They are some of the most exciting wrestlers to watch as they never stop wrestling and attacking they are quite relentless. Nick was crowned state champ this past weekend at 130 with Chris finishing third at 125. Both multiple state placers and have done well on the national scene

There are two twins in illinois, the Dardanes brothers that have had the same situation as this. they are always seperated untill the finals where they will usually depending on the tournament, but they would never FORFEIT to each other at a state or national tournament they wrestle each other as hard as they can. For this I am positive they would show these boys a lesson both on and off the mat.

HOW CAN TWO KIDS FROM THE SAME SCHOOL COMPETE IN THE SAME WEIGHT CLASS?
In NYS, after the secional tournaments, 4 wildcards are picked from each weight to fill out the brackets, because there are only 12 sections in division 1 plus four wildcards= 16 man bracket

Information to the USA wrestling community.

NYS has always had the following in effect for its championship.
Until last year, many of these second place kids could never go to the States.
You are also noticing in the last two years that several "wildcards" have won the championships sometimes defeating the wrestler they lost to the week before. Not that unusal anywhere else as many states see reversals form their regionals to states.
The NYSWCA has introduced the more popular national REGIONAL Qualifying procedures and there has been some discussion that may see this change. Most of the state wants a single championship and the regionals maybe the way to go. Wheels of change move slowly in the Empire State.

I hope this help explains why you are seeing teammates meeting in the semi-finals and other matches at the tournament. They are not Jr. varsity wrestlers...they are quality wrestlers who happen to be in the same weight class with a top state ranked wrestler and could be the second best in the state.
Thanks Al for that explanation.

I understand there is a big push to allow many more kids into the States from the larger, more competitive, sections. And this wild card thing is a start. Some of the non-winners, in the larger sections, could wipe up most of the winners from the smaller sections. Thus the lopsided results in the States.
Some changes are good. :)

Information to the USA wrestling community.

NYS has always had the following in effect for its championship.
We are a Intersectional Championships, unlike the rest of the country that host State Championships. NYS is divided into 11 Sections plus the CHSAA and the PSAL and these individual sections establish the rules and regulations regarding participation in the NYS INTERSECTIONAL Championships. Once at the State the NYSPHSAA sponsors the championships.
Several sections in the state, usually in the larger sections like Section 8 & 11, where schoolboy wrestling is very popular have the opportunity to enter up to 20-30 wrestlers in their league or qualifying tournaments at the weight classes the coaches select and are eligible by sectional rules.
They follow the state guidelines in terms of number of matches etc.
The coaches of these sections are able to maintain two or three upperclassmen to stay with wrestling by "splitting" matches and moving the good kids around in their line-ups.
A lot of the wrestling, especially in Christmas tournaments, allow two to three entries per weight class providing a lot of opportunities for these kids to get 20-25 matches each.
These kids are separate from the Junior Varsity, as many of our teams carry 50-70 kids on the roster. It is not uncommon to find two wrestlers from the same high school in the finals of the Sectional Championships.
Long Island, includedof two counties Nassau and Suffolk, each having 50 or more high schools with a population of 2.5 million in each county.

There are states that can have two wrestlers per weight class. In Washington, for example, Sunnyside HS had wrestlers that took 1st and 2nd in the state. They allow their #1 JV wrestler to compete, if they qualify by placing high enough in the Regionals.

there not taking turns as the same person, they always win so they take turns of who forfeits to the other one. They have never been on the same side of the bracket before and have never had to forfeit to eachother when they werent in the finals. Go KP

These guys need to stop whining. A few years ago, before the wildcard system gave more kids a shot at state, the brother who lost at sectionals would have been watching from the stands. They sound like they're just repeating something their coaches or parents were bellyaching about.

Do you mean these 2 kids "share" a spot in the trny? i.e. One wrestles one match and then the other wrestles the next match? That can't be right. If one got in because he won his section and the other got a wildcard that is 2 separate places for two separate boys.

Also, the issue of them wrestling each other wouldn't come up if they were sharing a spot.

Orrrrr, am I missing some wacky rule change here?
Your post reads as if both boys got in independent of each other.

to be honest if they don't want to wrestle each other than they should have gone separate weight classes, the person that it is unfair to is the semifinalist who has to wrestle a fresh kid after he had to battle for 6 plus minutes. They knew wrestling each other was a possibility and if they aren't willing to wrestle each other one should have moved up a weight, this isn't a off season or pee wee tournament its the New York state championships!!

i got a good idea they should just do NOTHING untill overtime
and first takedown wins , then the better wrestler would be in semis and he'd still be mentally and physically fresh

also difficult decision beacuse if they flip a coin , they will both be fresh which is a good idea but also if they battle and leave it all out on the mat the winner is going to the better wrestler that day and ud rather have the better twin wrestling in state semis or would u rather the lesser twin but a fresh lesser twin be in semis... idk what id do but i wouldnt be able to live with not being able to go for a state title beacuse i lost a coin flip i dont care who it is to that would not sit well with me

I think to give them preferential treatment in the seedings would not be fair to the other wrestlers. They should be seeded according to their records just like everyone else. I totally agree that they should have handled this themselves by going in 2 different weight classes. And I think they should go at it with each other. They're twins but, I bet one is better than the other. They should look to the Williams sisters as an example.

New York has 12 sections. Each sectional champ goes to states. Four bye's used to be randomly assigned, but they recently changed the system to allow for four wildcards in order to fill out a sixteen-person bracket. Wildcards are determined by a formula which takes into account win-loss differential, state placing, and sectional placing. Max got one of the four 96 wildcards. This is the first year for seeding at states, and that too is done by a formula with some head-to-head criteria as well.

Man, that tough situation! I'm really grateful I don't have to make such a difficult decision. But regaurdless if opponents are twins or not, a champion is not a champion if his opponent backs down and lets him win. It is only fair to wrestle it out and let the better wrestler advance.

Good luck to both of you.
