yeah... the number one ranked 135 pounder in the nation? #2 sounds better. Even though this was a dominating win, grajales looked very very sloppy. how do you expect him to be better than taylor with that technique?

for all of you wondering eric grajales won the ESU open (collegiate tourney in PA in early november 2008) beating alton and kindig at 141 lbs. trust me i kno im a junior in college and a high school kid won my weight class (coach wasnt happy with me) haha...simply put the kids a freak hes toying with these kids on the high school level...ive seen him wrestle top d-1 competition and he tightens up nicely and knows how to wrestle at the top level...watch for multiple ncaa titles and olympic greco in 2012 i can guarantee an olympic redshirt for london for this young man he doesnt wanna wait for these titles..... i have inside info on this ;)

People are gonna debate all day bout Grajeles/Taylor. Noone will know who is better until they wrestle. The videos up for him show mid-level comp, or he just makes them look that way. Im going with the latter simply because if this kid is qualifying for Olympic Trials as a junior, he's clearly passed the level of competition of his high school counterparts. So yea, hes gonna make everybody he wrestles for a while look weak. Because he is so good he is getting away with sloppyness(i.e., :49 arm drag where he pulls the kid on top of him and still gets the takedown). Of course this stuff wont work in college, but once he gets in that D1 wrestling room, those MSU coaches are going to tighten him up and he will be a problem for a lot of guys!

i think david taylor can take him, if they wrestle Taylor will win. If Taylor can bump up to 140 and beat collin palmer then he can stay at 135 and beat Grajales.

Come on, thats not what i was saying, this kid is obviously world class, and he made the rest of the field look pretty foolish here. What I meant to say was I would love to see Eric wrestle in the jersey states, pa states, or ohio states. thats it end, of story. wish the kid all theluck in the world, he has the makings of being one of the greats.

Justus Howley,

Terrible response. You are obviously a homer Jersey fan who hasn't gone far beyond your small comprehension of what the wrestling world involves. I bet you LOVE Blair Academy and rant and rave about their awesome accolades across every message board on the internet. Am I right? I can imagine Grajales beating any kid that Jersey could manage to produce for him to compete against. I hope that answers your question. He has done it. He is a national champion. Are you that ignorant or are you just trying to cause a stir? Either way, you lost on this thread.

Wisconsin is really not good for wrestling. There have been a few to come out of there yes, but overall the state is horrid. Grajales is wrestling puds and getting praised like he is a king. Lets see what happens when he wrestles a decent opponent

Grajales is equivalent to an NCAA Division I All-American wrestling in a HS tournament, he is just playing with these kids... He placed 4th or 5th at the US Senior Nationals this summer in Vegas in Greco, I also watched him compete at the US olympic trials this summer in Vegas... I believe he was one match away from placing and was competitive with all the senior level athletes...

The fact of the matter is the average state champ has no chance against a season college wrestler, I would say at any level that is good enough to be an AA.... that being said Eric has already beat Senior level athletes... and I presume will be an AA his first year at Michigan State...

Really?   January 12 at 3:18pm
I looked it up. Appartenly this kid is ranked 5th in Wisconsin in Div.1 @130, and the kid he beat in the finals is ranked 1st in WI in Div. 1 at 135. If Grajales is as bad as some of you think, that says very little for WI wrestling to have a #1 ranked kid get beat 30-14, presumably by giving up 15 TDs.

Really?   January 12 at 3:13pm
He beat Alton and Kindig, I believe on his way to winning a college tourney earlier this year. He seems to be toying with these guys, if you ask me. And that is no knock to his opponent here, it just looks like the truth. What are the accomplishments of his opponent here, or the guy beat 30-14 in the finals?

You don't view him beating Oliver and Alton as "doing something in Pennsylvania?

The kid has been a national champ several times at all levels. He placed at Greco Nationals (real Nationals, not Fargo) and was one of only a few high schoolers to be invited to the Olympic Trials.
He's going to Michigan on a full ride. Word is he had many full ride offers to major wrestling programs. How many kids from your school, district or state can say the same?
He sounds like he's a highly accomplished high school wrestler to me!
Do you naysayers actually think that all of the college coaches who were after him viewed him as "unproven" or someone who possessed great potential to excel at the D-1 level?
By the way, it's a stretch to put Minnesota high school wrestling in the same sentence as Pennsylvania. If you think the two states are even close in depth on the high school level you've been inhaling too much snowmobile exhaust up there in Minnesooooooota!

He is that good.
He is wrestling a ranked wrestler of WI in this video.
THe takedowns appear sloppy because he is using the minimium contact to execute. I have wrestled a wrestler similar to his style and they are hard to stop, just as the Stoughton wrestler in this video is having a hard time. The Stoughton kid is a good wrestler. (not that I give a crap about stoughton) LOL

very sloopy at times...if the kid was good some of those takedowns would have never happened.. if he wrestled alton or taylor an let me add one more kingdig like he just wrestled he may not walk off the mat winning.. but don't get me wrong he's still one of the best!

Don't let this video fool you all. This kid is good I saw him at the Heart of Dixie Tournament in Alabama. He is very bored with the competition he is wrestling. You can totally see this in his actions on the mat. This may hurt him when he wrestle someone that is going to push him. But don't let this video fool you.

I'm sorry, but Jason Chamberlain from Utah was way better than this Grajales kid last year when Jason was a senior. Jason didn't get quite the recognition that I thought he deserved. Although, he was the wrestler of the year last year, but whatever. Grajales is good, but not gonna be as good in college as Chamberlain is. Everyone watch out for Jason Chamberlain from Boise State!

I have no idea what qualifies you to judge how good a wrestler is going to be in the future. I'm sure you were a national champion or maybe an Olympic champion. All your experience should be able to tell you the way he is wrestling now, will definitely not work in college. Do you see the way he sets up shots? Its called muscling. But what am I thinking your the best out there BrandonWrstlr, you know what your talking about.

He's a stud, very strong. But I think David Taylor beats him. Youtube has a Taylor-Grajales match when they were like 14 or something. Taylor beat him 15-1, it was a beatdown.

nate moore graduated you idiot! he does not enter the conversation. The battle for the nation's best is between Grajales and David Taylor.

Horrible conditioning and poor fundamentals? Tell that to jordan oliver and andrew alton. Eric suffers from extreme boredom. if the kid he is wrestling is not on his level, he just tries to have fun.
