njfan, what are you talking about? im from WI and grajales is the real deal. he beat our state champ and one of the best wrestlers at his weight in the country, by tech-falling him. think about what your saying!

does anybody have his state finals match from this year?

#92
Sojo171   April 23 at 5:38pm
I was at the Michigan state finals in 2005 and Metcalf from Davidson did the same thing as Grajalas.TAKEDOWN KICK TAKEDOWN KICK.He won in the finals something like 24 to 11.I was never near this level so I cant judge.Judging by fellow Floridian,Scottie Sentes(central michigan true freshmanAA),He will be competitive his first year at Michigan.

i cant wait till senior nationals... palmer, taylor, grajales are all outstanding wrestlers, but with goree from ok beating paddock at the usa vs ok dual should make it interesting. not saying he ll win it but he will def make some noise. goree is a freak on his feet and doesnt get rode, should be awesome tournament.

Woah that's taking it a little to far, your all just jealouse that eric can wreatle, he's worked super hard and he's earned his wins just like all the other wrestlers, the only diffrence is he trians more and works harder, i'd like to see you get up there and wrestle him, because he's not as easy as he looks, Eric is just as determind, so before you go and say those kind of things about him I suggest you be ready to back it up.

Grajales looks strong and dominates this kid, but he also looks winded. Taking an opponent 14 times in a match will do that. Does he have an inability to turn a lesser opponent? Would love to see him against top quality opponent.

#77
Anonymous Coward   March 14 at 10:35pm
I saw eric wrestle at premier club in nj with team nj vs brandon and nj kicked some but also he was one of the few that won and won 13-7 without letting the kid up.

Grant87   March 3 at 2:42pm
I agree with CollegeRecruiter "This kid is not a top college or even ohio high school wrestler. His opponent was far from worthy. David Taylor will beat this kid" Notice he said Ohio not Wisconsin. Even Wisconsin's greatest college wrestlers are from Ohio...Kemp & J.Jordan :)

Are you the real Gable? Or just A Dan?
Hoping to see this match up!!!!

Are You Dumb?   March 3 at 11:13am
the kid in the gold was the division one state champ this year for the top division one team in the state of wisconsin. and grajales is making him look like a jv kid, think before you post.

Coach White   February 24 at 1:26pm
There is NO denying his talent and ability. I just dont see a ton of respect for the sport. I could care less about him teching someone in the first period, he is clearly that talented. It is the off the mat and after the whistle pushes and motioning to the ref that I find questionable.

#72
Really?   February 23 at 3:59pm
You people are stupid. I just saw Grajales at states and he wrecked and toyed with everyone... I mean Are you seriously that oblivious? What you all are seeing is a culmination of his hard work. He trains hard so that on the mat it's easy. I bet he trains hard than Taylor. That's why Taylor will get wrecked because in that match Grajales will wrestle his best.

P.S. Whoever said Grajales gasses out is an idiot he's running with a full tank in this match Umlauf didn't even phase Grajales.

#71
?   February 23 at 3:06pm
maybe he wants more, maybe a normal person cant understand why he wants to totally dominate and get a tech in the finals..maybe you just cant understand him. Grajales inspires me.

Man, it's kind of hard to like this kid. Great talent, but clearly not a deep respect for the sport.

Eric Grajales v. David Taylor? Would Sam Umlauf place @ Ironman or the Beast tourney? So is this a good measuring stick on how Eric & David's be? No, is the proper answer for all! Like Dustin v. Brent no one could say until it happened. Brent looked to be the better going into The Big Ten 2008 and he won. I say Taylor v. Palmer put David in that position. Great match up hopefully!

Dt   February 9 at 8:54pm
was this a warmup before he wrestled someone? I guess 135 wasn't that tough a weight class at this tourney-Grajales is good and OLDER than the average senior, it sure shows in this match. He was toying with him, almost joking around throughout the match it looks like.

what was the final score then? if it wasnt a tech?

grajales is a talented wrestler but the level of competition in florida isnt what it is in ohio granted grajales has beaten many quality opponents i believe taylor will win the match with a minor decision

Grajales and Tayloris a tossup. Taylor beat Palmer, but Grajales beat Alton. A great match that I think everyone wants to see at Sr. Nationals.

taylor is a great wrestler n all.. but he has bumped up a long way from 112lbs. i think grajales is just too far advanced for him n he is a really strong kid. i still would love to see that match tho. i might be wrong and it could be really close

and mike glabberman, grajales vs. mccauley would be an amazing match, but mccauleys got to get his conditioning up before he takes on grajales if anyone whose seen his match with robby fischer you know what im talking about

hes still one of the best but is still human

Amazing how people say that Grajales "is good in Florida" when he's won and placed high in numerous national tournaments since he was a young kid.

Before anyone writes some garbage here, perhaps they should do a Google search on Grajales and see what comes up.
Look for big things from Grajales in college.

umlauf woulda and shoulda gotten pinned but grajales is just too damn y
umlaufs got heart and pride for putting up a fight but hes not as his level
but its ok cuz i dont think he pretends to be or anything like that

#53
Dude   January 16 at 11:32am
you have to give some credit to Umlauf for at least making Grajales tired. Obviously Grajales was tired at the end, but who wouldnt be when you have that many takedowns. I'm sure Grajales would have pinned Umlauf if he could have, but he couldn't.

i just dont understand why everytime someone is on top and people dislike him he automatically cant wrestle or has low class like come on, i mean the kid can wrestle, for those who dont watch all his matches hes beaten oliver and had a very good match with nate more at fargo, u guys gotta just see the kids for there talent and wen the time comes and david taylor and grajales meet the match will happen and well see who is just better tat day but stop all the bashing on kids and saying he cant hang with iowa or pa or nj like this kids honestly could go to all ur states and pretty much show up and win a tourny hes number 1 for a reason he was asics wrestler of the yr last yr for a reason not just becuase he sucks

Dont Worry About It   January 16 at 7:04am
Eric Grajales is the real deal, it doesnt matter what state he wrestled in he would win it any where! He's proved that by wrestling in all the big tourtements, hes wrestled on world teams to national teams, hes even won a couple of college tourtements thta he wasnt supposed to college wrestlers that placed at the NCAA's so how can u say he cant preform at the next level?

Luke,

Please refrain from using logic and analysis. This board is reserved for irrational, inflammatory posts designed for an emotional response. Please adhere to these guidelines in the future.
Here's a good example:
Eric has never beaten anyone good. Until he beats Cael Sanderson, he doesn't deserve to be talked about on the national level.

#49
Luke Broadwater   January 15 at 11:08pm
I'm not sure why some posters are writing negative comments about Grajales. He looked excellent to me -- nice combination wrestling (underhook to arm drag to takedown) right off the whistle. The kid is smooth.

#48
Mike Glaberman   January 15 at 10:38pm
Eric=no good said:
Yes hes a great high school wrestler (in florida where they preach cowboys and standing cement mixers). If this kid wrestled in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or NY, he would get his clock cleaned
eric has wrestled every kind of human out there...hes wrestled kids out of his league.. so what if hes 19..he beat Jordan Oliver from PA and Oliver has beaten him as well but grajales has wrestled kids all over the world not just in Florida. What i would love to see is Grajales vs McCauley that would be a hell of a match.

#47
Joe Dirt   January 15 at 10:24pm
Eric should have just pinned him. And Umlauf sucks, he needs a lot more practice to wrestle a guy like Eric.

#46
Joe   January 15 at 8:49pm
to the lost soul that said eric would get his clock cleaned, i would beg to differ my friend. If Eric got 5th at the olympic trials as a junior in highschool please give me an example of someone in pennsylvania, new jersey or NY doing that

Deez Nutz   January 15 at 1:46pm
The Alabama kid last year would not wrestle Grajales - he was simply trying to avoid getting scored on. Eric tried to throw him and did, but the kid landed out of bounds. You can try, but there's no chance of any coach up there putting an "Alabama ass-whuppin" on Cozart and Big Bobby! Think about that for a minute while you eat some pork rinds, moon pies and chug some RC Cola!

Grajales will do well in College. People who know him are excited about what he could potentially do when he gets to Michigan and has a practice room full of guys who can push him far more than 99% of the high school opponents he's had have done.
Then, the Big 10 competition will further cause him to elevate his game. There's no doubt that Eric is in for some hard knocks at the hands of older, more seasoned college wrestlers. But, if anyone is capable of making the transition to the next level, he is.
One way or another, we're all going to find out how good a D1 wrestler Eric will be. But there's no doubt that he's an exceptionally dominant high school wrestler at this point.

#42
Anonymous Coward   January 15 at 1:17pm
would you people relax.. he is a great wrestler so why be so negative to him

#41
Pssshhhhh   January 15 at 12:47pm
grajales is a good wrestler but isn't he like almost 20 now or somethin? go to college already! Florida isnt that strong of a state anyway. And I'm positive David Taylor could beat Grajales. It would be close, but Taylor is the better wrestler. Grajales beat Oliver last year in Super 32, a PRESEASON tournament. Oliver went on to beat him later and in better shape.

Oliver > Grajales

Taylor > Grajales

ReAlitT   January 15 at 12:34pm
Brandon Scott, no hate for Eric, 1question, why do you constantly bring up the Super 32 match? You do realize he lost to Oliver a week later? Perhaps the over zealous luv you and the other florida posters display is as annoying as the hate you claim other posters have for Mr. Gajales.

ReAlitT Check:
ERIC GAJALES IS THE REAL DEAL
NO HS WRESTLER WILL "SCHOOL" HIM AS SOMEONE SUGGESTED
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, I THOUGT TAYLOR/ALTONS WERE THE ONLY ONES CAPABLE OF COMPETING WITH HIM(STILL DO)
NOT LIKING HIS STYLE/ATTITUDE DOES NOT EQUATE TO HATE
ERIC WILL NEED TO MATURE IN TERMS OF HIS EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES RELATED TO PUSHING/SHOVING, SLAPPING, SLAMMING KIDS WHEN HE IS FRUSTRATED(he and his coaches almost bought a good ol fashioned arse whoppin in alabama last year when he slammed a kid out of bounds when it was evident he would not pin him, contrary to what ESPN reported, he did not pin this kid)
BTW, if you want to be taken seriously as a writer/reporter, you may want to refrain from using juvenile terms such as "raping kids" when referring to the accomplishments of Taylor in relation to him beating opponents on Flo

Brandon Scott, no hate going on here with Eric. Curious about 1 thing, why do you constantly bring up the Super 32 match, you do realize he lost to Oliver a week later don't you? Seems to me your over zealous luv for the guy, as well as the rest of the florida backers, could be as annoying as any hate from other posters.

ReAlitT Check:
ERIC GRAJALES IS THE REAL DEAL
NO OTHER HS WRESTLER IN THE NATION WOULD "SCHOOL" HIM
AT THE START OF THE SEASON, I THOUGHT TAYLOR/ALTONS WERE THE ONLY ONES THAT COULD COMPETE WITH HIM (STILL DO)
PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT FANS OF HIS WRESTLING STYLE AREN'T HATING ON HIM
ERIC WILL NEED TO MATURE TO THE POINT HE ISN'T THROWING OUT EXTRA CURRICULAR SHOVES, PUSHES AND SLAPS WHEN HE IS FRUSTRATED
(vestavia hills last year he and his coaches almost bought an ass whoppin in good ol alabama for slamming a kid out of bounds that he couldn't pin, contrary to what the ESPN story stated, he didn't pin this kid"
and btw, if you want people to take you serious as a writer/reporter, you may want to refrain from using juvenile terms such as "rape" in your description of Taylors accomplishments against other opponents on Flo

Ok...grajales has beaten the top guys around we all know this. But all of you saying hes out of shape and has bad technique???? Look who hes wrestling?!?!?! no one who is ranked 1 in the nation with a college scholarship would waste an ounce of energy on a scrub. Grajales isnt trying here, this match probably isnt a big deal to him hes probably thinking..."im going to win this match and i know i dont have to try that hard" so its not that hes out of shape and has bad technique..its that he dosent have to try against scrubs like this. If you want to see the real grajales go look at him against the best, and no some Umlauf kid...

no doubt the this guy Grajales is a very good wrestler but this kid he's wrestling gave him most of these takedowns without even defending them. I think Taylor would give him a run for his $...Just my opinion but hey anything is possoble in this sport...

FYI! Grajales had been sick for a while and was not able to train like he would have liked. He went to Vestavia sick as well as trying to recoop during this! He is shearp, or he would not have won an Open D-1 tournament! He looked sloppy yes, but come on, he has won everything to win even going to the Trials! Give the kid, or man ,lol, a break!

Love watching Grajales wrestle....i got to admit though..it will be very entertaining watching what happens when he walks on to the mat in college...and thinks he is "bored" with his opponent.

Brandon Scott   January 15 at 7:33am
He has no riding? ask Oliver, Kindig and Alton if that's true.

(He had riding time on both Kindig and Alton at the East Stroudsburg Open)
Oliver has never escaped from Eric! and Oliver is a damn good bottom wrestler.
He should pin the kid? Why? Like was said earlier, this isn't some first-year kid, THIS IS A FELLOW D-1 RECRUIT! And guess what, wrestling has a mercy rule! Also, he did TRY to pin the kid... Listen to his coaches, they kept saying "GO BACK TO IT" after he hit that first underhook hip-toss. But Umlauf, literally, fell to his belly rather than try to defend (and ultimately get thrown to his back)
Eric has a tremendous gas tank, and if you don't believe it, ask the guys he wrestled at fargo, after he got 16 matches over the course of 4 days, and made weight 4 times!
It's obvious you guys don't pay attention, because if you watch metcalf, guess what? He's BREATHING HEAVY during his matches. It's not that he's in bad shape, we all know he isn't, but when you beating the mess out of someone and imposing your will the entire match, your body gets tired. That's a physiological fact. It's the best wrestlers who push past that, and continue to wrestle as if it doesn't matter.

Hear Me Out   January 15 at 7:21am
Grajales is a good wrestler bottom line but i dont think he is getting the change he needs in his matches. He looks so bored in this match. I Think if Grajales and Taylor wrestled Taylor would come out victorious because Taylor is an all around good wrestler but Grajales is only good on his feet

"Overrated"
Not happening. Dutton's pretty good, and I've seen them both wrestle. Grajales is head and shoulders on another level than Dutton is right now. Dutton will be very good, he's already good, but still a lot of time to improve. Not exactly the most "impressive" of takedown displays I've seen from him, but when you outclass someone, you just outclass them.

#23
Anonymous Coward   January 14 at 9:01pm
TTT what the hell are you talking about? Sorry if i offended you. You must really know talent if you started on state championship team. WOW! Just from your short little stint I dont think you competed at the collegiate level nor do you know how difficult it is to compete there. College wrestling is so tough its amazing. Eric will be a good wrestler in college but i dont think he will step right in there and be at the top. Its gonna take a few years.

#22
Anonymous Coward   January 14 at 8:55pm
Taking a kid down and putting him to his back is what wins you matches in college. There was not one attempt of that. You dont have to go out there and pin him in 30 seconds but going out there and just bulling the guy for six minutes doesnt make you better. Use some slickness on the takedowns. You saw maybe 2 slick ones the rest were just him being stronger and faster. wrestle a kid with same strength he wont be doing that.

Wvmatfan   January 14 at 8:47pm
TTT- you sound like a fool saying this is Grajales 1st year at Brandon, he and his brother and dad have all gone to Brandon. And yes he has little class, I saw him out in Fargo, he constantly griped at officals, whined when someone actually got rough and wrestled and his dad said some pretty nasty/stereotyping things about one of his oppenents that went in the match and scraped with him and wasnt scared of him.

TTT   January 14 at 8:28pm
anonymous coward is a fool. this is Grajales 1st and only year at Brandon. He's not going for a school takedown record. also, how is he going to get better by pinning the kid early in the match. why not avoid the pin and work on your takedowns. this is like drilling for him and he is the real deal. anyone that beat oliver and alton is the truth. i'm from pa and started for a state championship team that had a kid by the name of Jeff Walters ( 2 x state champ ) who went on to become a national champ as a HWT at wisconsin. i've seen what it takes to become a national champion. grajales will only get better when he starts working out with the michigan university team everyday.

grajales will catch many beatdowns in college...and theres no doubt about it! yea for highschool he is very good but the college transition is gonna get him, there arent any sticks that fall over when u touch them in d1

JYD   January 14 at 8:12pm
Thing is, the kid who he's wrestling is a Stanford recruit, so it's not like he's chopped chicken liver. I'm a believer. Grajales is just bored. I think Brandon should have entered tournaments where he and his teammates could have faced the PA, NJ, OH guys. Or the Clash. Still, Cheesehead>Dvorak.

Deez   January 14 at 7:43pm
Wrestling just a lil y i think....yeah hes good on his feet but he didn't have to embarrass the kid like that. Thats just poor sportsmanship. Put the kid out of his misery instead of running a clinic on him.

I think what people like to see is maybe a takedown with back points. You see a lot of kids now a days chasing school and state records. ie im sure Eric is trying to become the all time takedown leader for brandon high school. Hes not getting any better wrestling matches like that. I think he does have the technique and the stamina there just isnt anyone that can push him. I would have loved to see him at ironman. If he wrestled in Ohio, PA, New Jersery he wouldnt be running kids over like that. It will be interesting to see if he shows up at senior nationals.

Destin McCauley is only a sopre but is a 3-time champ out of Apple Valley MN. He ate up the competition at the Clash, including taking the #1 kid from Iowa to school. I'd like to see a round-robin with Grajales, him and Taylor. Somebody make it happen!

All this talk about Grajales what about the other kid. He must be a first year wrestler, right. I mean he scores no offense points and looks absolutley lost on the mat. Take a look at Grajales' first round match and it looks identical. Maybe Grajales is just that good

It's settled then!

He has no class.
He's out of shape.
He's sloppy.
His technique will not work in college.
He should quit the sport immediately!

he was good... and he controled the match ... but it seemd that he did get tired...

I'd have to agree, he seems very sloppy. He needs to tighten up a bit if he expects to do well at the next level.

Tell the truth...have any of you ever scored that many takedowns in a single match?

It's clear that Grajales is conducting a takedown clinic on his opponent and that's got to be somewhat tiring!
I doubt if this kid gets his clock cleaned in D1. I don't think anyone believes he can step in and beat the top guys right now, but it is clear he has D1 potential - much more of it than most D1 recruits.
Give the kid a break - he's won just about anything there is to win on the national level and a major program has granted him a full ride. How anyone can doubt this kid has serious talent is beyond me.
Get a life...haters!

Is that a joke? That was the other best 135 at the Cheesehead? That's just a shame. And it seems like he doesn't have great endurance, but he's very strong.

well i think the match everyone wants to see is David Taylor vs Grajales. Being from Ohio i of course would pick taylor but grajales is so athletic i dont know if taylor can hang on his feet. I would think taylor can probably ride grajales. regardless it would be a great match hope it happens some time.
