the black guy was clearly the better wrestler, unlucky to get caught in a spladel. I hate that move because the only way you can do it is if your right about to give up a takedown

I love the voice overs at the end.

GUY: "Wait!?....."
GIRL: "Ed Ruth just got pinned."
GUY: (with a rising tone) "oooOh..."

Spladle Question?   March 4 at 4:52pm
how did he get that tight enough so Ruth didnt pop his head out?
reply
#45
Anonymous Coward   February 27 at 1:10pm
I think Ruth's reaction confirms 2 things. He was pinned and he is a total class act. I don't think it would ever happen again, but Iit is pretty cool to say you did it.

agreed. you really just need to be tight to your opponent plus have the speed. you cant sit there and try to set this move up or hes gonna figure it out real quick. notice how he pretty much figure fours the guys leg so it wont get away from him and then he pulls that knee as close to his own chest as he can.

man its all about how tight u have it locked up.... u cant stay there for long or they will find a way to get their head out

Spladle Questioner   January 25 at 1:09am
how do you trap your opponents head so they can't pop there head out. where do you put your body on his back to make sure you get NF points and the fall?
reply

wow what a good spladle!!!
once he locked that up it was all over

I don't think Ruth really could have stopped that. Just the way it got locked up was so goofy and tight. Nasty spladle right there.

No Pin   January 15 at 5:15pm
Def not a pin. Nice try by the ref trying to be a hero though.
reply
#28
Anonymous Coward   January 15 at 4:29pm
I'm pretty sure the ref who is looking directly at the wrestler's shoulder blades has a better view than us viewers who have the view blocked by the rest of his body. just my opinion though.

Apparently you guys need to read the rule book on the definition of a pin. This was hands down a fall. Referees are now defining a fall when any part of the scapula or shoulder blades are held to the mat for two seconds. Way to go on pinning the #1 ranked wrestler in the nation.
reply
#24
Anonymous Coward   January 6 at 10:12am
Is it just me or is Ruth not close to being pinned? His shoulder looks like it is way up on the kid with the spladle. Looks like it is the very bottom of his back that is down.

That is what a college coach looks for in a good wrestler. One of the senior guys on our was ranked #4 in the nation last year and he lost to the #3 in the state finals by 3 points still got a big ride somewhere cant remember the name of the school though.

i think it is interesting how pins have changed nowadays it is much easier to get pinned. if someone is even close they will call it and even if the only thing on the mat is the middle of their back they will call it. i should have to be both shoulder blades!

Any part of the scapulas that are pressed for two seconds constitutes a fall. Since the lowest part of the scapulas are always pressed on spladles, people who don't know anything about officiating, or what constitutes a pin, are quick to make judgments. read the officials manual before you think he wasn't stuck

a fall is when both SHOULDER BLADES are flat against the mat. not shoulder joints or lower back. also spladle is the best example of what part of body creates a pin, also nearside cradle shows the same thing.

His back was pressed against the mat for the right amount of time to call a pin. Besides, do you really think he was going anywhere? Even HE knew it.

if that was a pin
dont both shoulders have to be touching the mat?
in this spladle his shoulders were clearly on the other kids stomach
and it was his lower back on the mat

he wasn't stuck. you could clearly see his shoulder up. I am tired of these ref's calling pins on kids in a spladle. it was flat out not a pin. His lower back was flat but his shoulders were clearly up.
