Some times you need to throw up weights to get to the next level. For example when you are trying to get an extra rep in the bench or curls who cares if you cheat. What happens is that you trick you body to handle heavier weight and by the way how can bridging a little when a person does bench hurt someone. It is actually strength areas that you need when you are wrestling. What r u going to do when you a trying to get off your back, tell your opponent wait i need to do perfect form to get away, no you do what you can.

You people are crazy. It's not a weight lifting program. It's a conditioning test. They are not lifting for technique, they are lifting and moving heavy weight around for conditioning. Developing muscle memory and buring into their muscles that they are not allowed to be tired. Screw the lifting technique. Great workout, insane hard work. Nice job IOWA

from what i have read, lifting to failure is not good for wrestlers because it promotes weight gain. The power lifting is good stuff.

That is a pretty good workout. I can see high school kids moving into that direction. Form is the least of their worries they are still getting the same lift out of the workout. See you world beaters in the STL...

okay, to be maintaining their weight all year long and having to go through this regime, no wonder why they are #1 in the nation. i would love to see all these people who are criticizing on their form do that; but im not saying that i could either.

pokemon i couldn't agree with you more. everybody needs to shut up about how "bad" they're lifting. as long as they have a straight back and don't injure themselves, they're still getting stronger.

Ha i have been a long time hawkeye fan and i would like to say that they are the best for a reason...its for their practice not for their lifting they go thru an amazing practice workout that is probably the toughest i have seen...so anyone who has a problem with then i say go try to hang with them im pretty sure you cant

Apparently all of you posters are body builders who lift primarily for muscle definition
These lifts are not harming them in any way because they are not bending their backs or lifting it wrong, they are throwing around heavy weight not only focusing on a specific muscle group, but to make it more total body orientated. These type of workouts get your heart rate up much higher than a standard lift idiots, thats why they do them.

As long as the core and glutes are tight, the rocking and dynamic movement are excellent ways to improve functional wrestling strength. These athletes are not body builders. They need to be involved in dynamic unstable explosive movments. This meets the demands of the sport. As long as they are in control, injury is not likely. I would say this is a great way to reduce the risk of injury because of the similar actions that take place during the sport of wrestling. Speed during the concentric parts of the movments are important and I see this being done. Wrestlers at this level have incredibly high levels of core strength. The activities performed are effective and should improve performance and reduce the risk of injury

They don't try to lift with good technique, it's all about getting the wieght up. It's supposed to be like a match, you are not going to lift someone up with perfect technique every time, you have to just get the guy up sometimes

Yes the technique is from the seventies, but the effort is vintage IOWA, and Mr. Palmanator, you do lance no justice by talking . Both of the wrestlers are intense competitors and will battle. Score board metcalf one NCAA title the rest 0. Go back to your xbox and smack there this is for the ones that pay and what ever the workout these guys are leaving it on the mat.

The only thing worrisome about the horrible form in cracking out these reps is that somebody can get a serious injury, either a vertebral injury or a hernia of sorts. It doesn't seem like anybody is wearing a weight belt or using wrist, elbow, or knee wraps which may prevent to some degree tendinitis. Other than the risk of serious injury, all is well again in the world with the collegiate wrestling season approaching.

If your suprised by this video, you have never seen the likes of royce alger, penrith, the brands, the steiners, goldman, heffernan, and gable. This type of intensity has been there foundation, agree or not with the method, the results are the bench mark.

That looked pretty intense. Thought it was funny when Metcalf got through with his last stair climb, he bent over to catch his breath and looked over to find the camera on him and he immediately hopped up and walked off. Brent Metcalf doesn't get tired, Brent Metcalf doesn't take a breather!
