Good Match. Gilpin tries a lot of risky moves that almost get him in trouble a couple times. But, I guess you wanna leave it all out on the mat, don't ya?! Liked the spladle in the 2nd period. Ouch!!

CA...OH...Watch the Dapper Dan. I belive that PA is still (as it always has been) the best. Just to fill you in it's not the PA state champs either. It's the highest placing SR. Like Chris Sheetz won as a sopsh but placed 6 as a Sr and he still won. So they may have won 18 state championships but not all were champs this year. USA had 44 total stsat champs...and lost.

CA wouldn't get smashed but could compete with OH at 103lbs. for sure. Ciscernos is a beast as a Freshman.

Probably weighing 125 in this match legrande should have beaten him even worse than he did..good job though

Alex wrestled very well in this tournament and deserved his state title. He did what he had to do to make weight and committed himself to the sport by cutting the weight. Props to him on a great job. CONGRATS

Yes, Legrande did too make it out of districts his freshman year in Jersey. he was a district runner up and was a round away from the consi-finals in the regions. That year he wrestled and beat many kids who are now state qualifiers in Jersey and for the record NJ wrestling makes all you texas hicks look like scrubs. legrande is a good wrestler so shut the hell up.

Seriously, it is immature to bash on these wrestlers. I agree they are both very good, but I'm not sure i agree on the reffing in this match. I hope they wrestle again, and the outcome might be different. Good luck to the two of ya'll. Ya'll definitely make Texas proud.
reply
#18
Yeah   March 4 at 6:44pm
exactly what did you just say?
everyone on your team did it too?
yeah every wrestler in texas knows that trick and every wrestler doess it so to bag on him for it is ridiculous.

Sad   March 4 at 4:35pm
This discussion is sad. Lagrande is a real wrestler and he beat a real wrestler in Gilpin. All the other junk means nothing. He wasn't hydrated is probably the dumbest comment I have ever heard. He is dedicated to his sport if he goes to nationals then he will get a chance to compete against the best in the nation. If not he will have to pick a weight class for next year. I am sure he does not want to wrestle 103. That is just so hard to live at. Most likely 112 or 119, then we will see him compete next year.

is not even close to 18 years old. you are not an allen fan you piece of trash. and if he makes texas wrestling look bad then what does every other 103 pounder in the state make texas look like??? he went up to Tulsa and won mid american nationals at Tulsa Union so i guess he makes everyone in oklahoma look bad too... your pathetic

legrande made it out his freshmen year he placed 2nd at districts and was an alternate for state so good job on that statement. stop bagging on the kid. he did what he had too to become a state champion and a f-ing varsity spot on his team so shut up!!!

Pitt grow some balls and tell us who you are. last time i checked legrande had to weigh in the exact same as gilpin did that morning. To win a state title usually you have to beat everyone else at that weight... and im afraid gilpin couldnt dude...

Legrande   March 3 at 9:55pm
probably wanted a spot on the team. So i don't blame him for going 3. 12=trotter 19= Gaines

Seriously   March 3 at 9:21pm
to come on here and bag on a kid that just won state come on now? legrande is a pure beast at 103 and the fact is that yeah he cut alot of weight but he had to cut the weight for the certification so that proves that uil did manage this and with legrande being so tall he most likely had to certify weighing in at 103 or possibly 102 in order to be able to wrestle so yeah he worked his @$$ off to earn this state title now get your heads out and be proud of your former wrestler if you even wrestle. so congrats to both of you guys hope to see you match up again

I have to say at first i really don't like Legrande and i don't think he should be at 103, but i do not agree with saying Gilpin outwrestled him, because he definately didn't, and with the stalling there was no stalling outside of the final 10 seconds, but lets be serious now who doesn't stall in the final minute when your winning???

Observer   March 3 at 11:31am
If Legrande did in fact cut from 136 to 103, I think there may be a foul with the Texas UIL rules on weight loss. I'm pretty sure the rules don't allow for a 25% wight loss.

this would be like a 215 kid dropping to wrestle 160.
P.S. the kid looks like he lost 25% of his weight - unhealthy!

Coach   March 3 at 9:10am
This was a great match. It is clear that Legrandes length and wrestling skill added to his ability to reverse Gilpin 2 times. On their feet it seems that Gilpin is the better wrestler. Perhaps better coaching and Gilpin wins. As for the comments on Legrandes looks, it is an increadible thing to cut from 136 to 103 what disapline, and it got him a state championship. I look forward to seeing a rematch at Nationals. One thing for sure these wrestlers are both outstanding and should wrestle at the next level.

I agree with "Good Job" on the back points and the overtime. Legrande, however, is very good as well. He has been wrestling for 12 years, so there's not much room for improvement. Gilpin, on the other hand, has only been wrestling for 3 years, so he will most likely continue to improve in his ability to wrestle because he has not had as much time to become as good as he is already. It is a good thing that Gilpin did not get first. Now he will work harder during the summer and fall to prepare for next season. Hopefully he will see Legrande at nationals this year. It will be another great match to watch.
