all that matters is Winston is ranked 12th and welch is 14th. The two of them will wrestle again and winston wil beat carrot top.

o'connor is not generating any offense. It was all scotty yet he still wasn't as aggressive as ive seen him. His problem is mat wrestling. It has hurt him several times this year. Watch him vs Adam Hall of Boise State. Clearly superior on the feet but makes several tactical errors on the mat. Im suprised goodie has let him get away with that for so long (he was his highschool coach as well as college) cant just depend on neutral. If he becomes well verse on bottom/top he will be a force. I hope he AA's this year. Got a good shot id say

O'Connor wrestled a smart match against the superior athleticisim of Winston. O'Connor used a variety of tools against Winston using just one. O'Connor worked his hand fighting; sprawl and scramble; stalling; his tie up; and his crab ride against Winston's quick low single attack. Winston looks like raw power poured into a singlet, strong and fast, an exciting wrestler with a great future. Winston should take the lessons that O'Connor provided him and go on to All-American perhaps eventually to NCAA champion. O'Connor may not successfully use the same techniques against the athleticism and skills of Poeta; Gillespie; Leen; and Burroughs. Perhaps some one else can check this out, but did Burroughs use the same strategy as Winston against O'Connor and come out ahead in Las Vegas. I would like to see O'Connor increase his conditioning to better compete with faster and stronger opponents like Leen, Burroughs, Gillispie, and Poeta. I would like to see Winston widen his range of techniques and move on to collegiate greatness. Also, the EIWA has multiple potential All-Americans and national champions, which would seem to merit better referee work than I have seen in these videos.

Winston wrestled a great match but made a fatal mistake which was the weak single that he got streched out on and taken down. You can tell he realized the error and the difficulty in changing the outcome thereafter. Great wrestler seem to know how a match will proceed (like chessmasters) and when a situation arises that alters that course then they realize that to win will be difficult. Winston was not irrate after the match, he lost on that take down shot. He will be an NCAA champion some day and the match will go as he plans it.

that is two... Book says regardless of crotch lift, both legs controlled and head on the outside is two. and it was beyond reaction time

Winston was the agressor the entire match......did O'connor even take a shot? Winston beats this guy next time....I hope he sees him again! By the way, no takedown...sorry Scotty......

that wasn't two. i'm not partial to either wrestler. but that was not a takedown.

winston did have both ankles, but o'connor was draped over the top and locked in the crotch. no control, whether he was on his hip for a split second or not.

scott winston lost the match on probably one of the most infuriating calls ive seen as a wrestler and he shook oconners hand at the end of the match and then shook the harvard coaches hand and quitely took off his head gear without even a look on his face

Well...   March 8 at 9:25pm
Yeah you're right. The Melde takedown isn't even remotely controversial. I'm not sure what I was thinking of. I think I watched so many matches today they all started running together. I thought I saw a very similar situation today that was called a takedown, but I don't think I'll be able to remember it now. But I didn't realize that if the hips get off the mat a takedown gets taken away. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

The takedown at the end of Jantzen-Melde was a lift, no question that was a takedown. At the end of Jantzen-Manson, Manson only had one leg. At the end of this one, Winston had both feet, but O'Connor got his hips off the mat. Hence, he took the call back. If a guy can get out that easily, there is no control: no takedown. ABC 123.

It looks a lot like the takedown they awarded to Jantzen at the end of his semi-final match with Melde, or at least the differences are not obvious to me.
