Jim,

I agree with what you are saying. As an atlete we are trained to be competitive. IN my opinion the goal should always be to improve on the things we have already done. Even national champions set higher standards the next year. Goals such as giving up less points, earning more pins, etc. I believe that once you are satisfied with where you have been, there is a sense of achievement that slows down future progress.
I am sure Bryce is pushing himself to outreach his goals from a season, and I am sure his coaches and wrstling partners are pushing him to build on a great season from a year ago.

I like seeing this kind of positioning stuff even more than the technique stuff.

I find it strange he said "Last year I was an All-American so hopefully I plan to do the same [this year]." This kid is tough, why not openly say you're shooting to improve on last year's (solid) performance and become a national champion?
I see this a lot (not just this kid and not just from this program), kids saying "I want to be an All-American." instead of saying "I want to be a national champion."
That being said, I know some of these kids don't hold wrestling as the #1 priority in their lives, but even still, I think it's worthy of discussion from both an athletic standpoint and a coaching standpoint.
What do you guys think?
(Disclaimer: I mean no disrespect at all, Navy as well as all the military programs produce quality individuals regardless of their wrestling accomplishments and I hold Bruce Burnett in very high esteem. It's just that one sentence jumped out at me and I thought I'd bring it up here.)

Louie:

Thanks for the answer and for posting the match! Two tough kids from our Academies! Is Army's program as healthy as Navy's appears to be?

Great stuff, thanks Bryce. I am amazed by the number of high school kids who don't practice, understand, drill or use this. Thanks for the great demo.

By the way, great scramble that is posted on flo, with you Kyler from Army.
How did that match end up?

He mentioned that he was all american in the context that he hoped to repeat this year. Why all the venom. Stop hating. Wouldn't you think that technique might be more valid coming from someone who has had success (all american)? I don't get this bashing. Like all these techniques, you get what you can from them, incorporate some things into your arsenal and move on.
