Isn't post workout shake a staple for recovery, and for recovery purposes doesn't a high glycemic carb and fast absorbing protein work better than traditional natural unprocessed foods at absorption. I am pretty sure that dextrose or maltodextrin will help replenish glycogen stores more quickly than say broccoli and hydorlyzed whey protien absorbs faster than say grass fed beef, or am I mistaken? Unquestionably natural food should be a staple but not post workout where nutrient timing is important for recovery. Insulin sensitivity only lasts so long after a workout.

eat protein until your kidneys start hurting and then back off some. I read some where that the NSCA recommends 2.2 grams of protein per lb of lean body mass so lets say the 200 lb guy was 10% BF that would mean 396 grams of protein per day. She is a dietician not a personal trainer she lives in a world outside of athletics so her recommendations may be skewed because of her background and the clients that she is used to working with.

It's a good thing John is just a coach and not a math professor.

Ya athletes actually need extra calories to keep up with their routines. Remember Michael Phelps was eating 10,000 - 12,000 calories a day just to keep up with his workouts.

Oklahoma State Cowboys listen to their nutritionist who will be working with the team closely this year. In this video she says that no supplements can really do better than actual food. She eludes to the fact though that athletes sometimes use supplements because of their unique situations.
