Great interview, great personality. Also dang fun to watch out on the mat, seeing Jenkins with more skills on top will make things very exciting.

Sounds like from the interview that he isn't redshirting or moving up either.

REPPIN VA BUBBA! But seriously, if you compare matches between kids at this high of a level closing the gap is not that uncommon. Just by wrestling alone you learn and you don't do things like that again. I don't think bubba necessarily got that much better to go from a tech pin to a 4 point loss, i think he just learned things. You are bound to close the gap when the gap starts with you getting tech pinned...the only way to go is up.

If the gap had not closed why would the interviewer ask Bubba how he felt about the gap closing. Watch wrestling, pay attention, please know what you are talking about before you comment. He got tech pinned in the first meeting, then beat 15-3, then had the first two take downs in the NCAA final and lost 14-8. The gap closed substantially, actually a huge improvement on Bubba's part. Give Metcalf credit, he owns Bubba, but he is not pulling away from him, more like Bubba is closing in on Metcalf.

Well, statistically, the gap did close. First match ... not even close, ugly beatdown, embarrassing. Second one, still one-sided, but not the punishment endured in the first. Third one, NCAA Finals ... leading/tied for about half the match. One five point swing and Metcalf controlled the rest of the match. Bubba is the only wrestler who has shown he can take Metcalf down more than once, but as we've seen, it's going to take more than that to beat Brent.

The gap's narrower now than it was in their first meeting, but it's still a gap.

how can he say he closed the gap with metcalf? he got thumped every time. i don't think he'll even make it to the finals again. penn state was lucky to finish 3rd. they'll be top 10 this year but their best possible team finish will be 5th place.
bubba does seem like a nice guy. i just think he will get thumped again. metcalf if probably not going to parties with the wrestling team. he's probably eating nails.

Good strategy to beat metcalf. If he could hold him down for a little while he would get a lot less tired.
