Her late husband, Bear, was my Principal for 3 years at Bettendorf HS in Iowa in the early 1980s. She is a classy lady and Bear was a great man. She has been very devoted to announcing these big tournaments for many years. SO enough of the negative remarks about this nice wrestling lady.

Sandy is a class act across the board. Wrestling is very fortunate to have her and the massive amount of time she gives back to the sport. Thanks to Sandy for all she has done.

Yeah... her voice can nag at ya after hearing it for hours straight at a tournament, but in saying that its definately nothing personal... any voice would.

Anyway, what I really want to say is that this is a great interview. She's an awesome person, and i'm glad to have her as "the voice of wrestling" because she's not just talking in a microphone all day. She understands the sport. The part about wrestling being a sport of substance, not image... work ethic- so true. It's actually helped me personally put things back into perspective, so thanks!

I think Sandy Stevens should take Nick Hopping over her knee and give him a bit of a thrashing for suggesting that wrestling should lose its substance and strive for image. IL Wrestling should bugger off. Also where is Ed Alaverte (Sp?) these days? Is he still around?

Bear Stevens was my high school principal at Bettendorf Iowa. Sandy used to work our dual meets. He was a great person, and so is she. First class, and all heart.

Great interview, Sandy Stevens is apart of American wrestling history. Most people who have been to Fargo already know this, but I think it's special at the beginning of the Tournament she announces that if you are competing and have a difficult name to pronounce please come up and tell her, she says that it is a honor to compete at nationals and each wrestler deserves to have there name properly announced. Shows alot of character....
