Hmmmm July 31, 2008 at 10:47am
why dont all you welch people shut up because winston won senior natinals..and welch was a no show..so u cant say anything...
WInston learned it ain't so easy when you get with the big boys at NCAA...but he's still a tough hombre, there is no doubt...as I wrote elsewhere, I've gone live with him, and he's got mad skills and doesn't even use a quarter of his power and yet can kick ass...
Winston came to one of my practices,he's the best wrestler in NJ undefeated record in high school 3time state champ coulda got four if he didn't get hurt.Gunna be dirty in his college carreer since he's got his old caoch from high school there by his side
so ur sayn welch isnt good because winston beat him? welch beat 2 guys this season that took out winston. you have to give welch his credit. and yes winston did beat welch, that's great whoopty doo! they both would whip all ur asses who doubt either of them. Winston beat a very tough welch, but don't knock welch cuz he is still a bad ass wrestler unlike you jokers. BTW, u JIZZY guys need to calm the hell down. ur wrestling is good but ur arrogance kills it. most of you guys who rep Jersey probably sux at wrestling but take the credit from other wrestlers accomplishments. next time u dis onther state, lets see ur cradentials!
dude come on grow the fuk up with ur bosak bull does a undeafted record mean nything to u n fuk cali wrestle in a real state lik new jersey obviously winston dominates for a reason
to the kid who posted two posts below me...idiot. both of those were oviously you...and welch would probaly have won this tournament, but living in the west coast and attending this tournament 3,000 miles away is difficult, it affects your school work, and is a 3 hour time difference, im impressed with any1 from cali who goes to this tourny. P.S. Welch can out speed anyone with his takedown skills. he proved that when he took down Poeta number 1 ranked college wrestler at the midlands
Conrad polz would beat both wrestlers he beat winston at junior duals and i think welch is not strong enough to beat polz but welch and winston would be a pretty good match welch wins 3-2
polz is the best 160 pounder n the country
i agree with the kid below me...and there is no way welch is quicker t han winston..winston doesnt even use his strength he uses his speed..he might be the quickest wrestler i know
i know this is topic is discussed way too often but i can confidently say welch would win. i've seen both wrestlers wrestle not just on video but in person and welch is definitely quicker. more than that though, welch uses more set ups and has so much more versatility. if you look at winston, he hits straight attacks and snap downs. winston might be way stronger but at college level, everyone is strong. besides, if wrestling was all about strength then we would spend all our time in the weight room instead of the wrestling room. winston is good but welch has a lot more potential to grow and will likely do better in college
I am sick of hearing the Welch vs. Winston debate. People need to give both wrestlers their due. They're both incredibly talented. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. I just want to the see the match. Personally, I am rooting for Welch because I like his in-your-face-style but I can't say he's going to win.
Jason Welch would beat Scott Winston. It would be a close match, but i say the score would be 11-6. Because even though Winston is stronger than Welch, Welch is very well conditioned and would wear out Winston. Welch is very rough and aggressive, he can do 5 different moves into one. Just look at his match with Ogle of Gilroy in the CIF state! Look what he does in the video. He goes from a head-and-arm, to a underhook, to a two-on-one ancle pick!! Tell me that isn't just pure skill!
By the way, Jason Welch would not be ridden most of the third period like Winston was...sorry..he just wouldn't...Poeta had a hard time keeping him down.
The whole Winston vs. Welch argument is only conjecture;however, after closely watching both of these very fine wrestlers for the last 2 years, I must agree with the contention that Welch would certainly defeat Winston. His nonstop offense and unorthodoxy would be a bit much for Winston to handle. A talent like Welch is a cut above most "Really Good" wrestlers--like Winston. This is not to say that Winston couldn't improve enough in college to defeat Welch...only time will tell,
idk if the second takedown was two if he had control or not but since the ref called it there was definitly backs he was on his back for more than 3 seconds

LISTEN WINSTON LOST AT BOTH JUNIOR AND SENIOR FREESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIPS RECENTLY QUENTIN WRIGHT WON IT QUENTIN WRIGHT WOULD BEAT BOTH SCOTT WINSTON AND JASON WELCH
END OF STORY HAHA
Last year at Senior nationals, Winston a no show, Welch top 16 at the highest level. This year, they are both there. Welch beat Winston the only time they wrestled. welch hasn't lost since half way through his Sophomore year. He didn't get scored on during the dream team matches (offensively). List goes on and on.
Winston is the real deal. Thought the official did an outstanding job here and throughout the tournament. Seen him in several NCAA venues officiating. Some of you critics should try officiating. Nevermind you'd just hurt the sport - Stay in your seats...
o yeah one more thing i think bryan bourne mighta beat winston or atleast it woulda been a better match then what steve gave winston; not trying to put down steve but bryan is better he won junior nationals the year previously
i was looking forward to seeing welch and i dident get to see him im dissapointed ...and i deffinantly agree the second take down winston had he should of never received but all in all it was still a god match
Winston has lost to cubberly (who bosak beat in the semi's)at the super 32. Pre season yes but still a loss. I don't think bosak was trying to keep the match close. I think if the ref would have called stalling on winston and made him open up bosak may have scored. Yes, winston's high school career seems impressive, however, would it have been so if he lived and wrestled in Pennsylvania where kids who don't even make it out of districts and regions can beat state champs from other states. In PA it's a bloodbath just to make it to states. I remember when a wrestler named Mike Robinson from Lewistown, PA beat Mike Grey (at the time the #1 recruit in the nation) at the Beast. Mike Robinson made it to states, but never placed in Pennsylvania. Winston is also really physically mature. Next year he won't have that advantage. Regardless- they're both good wrestlers and I wish them both good luck at the next level.
Winston won and never lost in his hs career, bosak was just trying to keep that match close, did he make one attmept to legitimately win the match, I don't think so. Winston baby 141-0!!!
2nd takedown wasn't a takedown-no control on Winston's part and Bosak was working on a funk. Puts the score at 2-0 going into the 3rd period. Amazing stall call- Bosak working on top and Winston just lying there. Stall point should have been given to Bosak not Winston. Score now 2-1. Who knows what would have happened with a good ref. The ref was terrible. Also in college remember Bosak would get points for riding time. All in all a great effort on Bosak's part considering Winston is ranked 2nd in nation. Bosak is ranked # 6 by WIN Magazine.
You know who really gets left out of these discussions, Illinois. Look at the national rankings and it is chalk full of kids and teams from that state. Some food for thought.
If welch and louis bland (both 3x state champs in a state where it means something)show up, Cali wins Ntls...again. NJ kooks- NO STATE has finished in the top 3 more than CALIFORNIA in the last 15 years except OHIO (props Ohio!). Check the record books.
Bosak never even won a state title, and kept this match pretty dang close. Winston reminds me of CP Schlatter. Good technique with brute strength. CP won 4 titles in Ohio with one career OT loss. CP was a 1x AA in college, because strength doesn't mean as much in college. This ref was horrible. Match score was really 3-0. In college, it is 3-1 with RT.
I don't think choosing Rutgers is such a bad choice. They had a very good recruiting season and Gooddale is going to start keeping home the NJ talent that is being taken by other schools. The EIWA is a solid conference and getting stronger every year. They've had at least 1 NCAA champ every year since '02 and '99 was the last year that they did not have at least one finalist. The conference had 11 All Americans last year and keep getting stronger. Just think if the following NJ wrestlers had gone to Rutgers; Joe Dubuque, Zack Esposito, Damion Hahn, Glenn Pritzlaff, Don Pritzlaff, Brett Matter,Matt Valenti just to name a few.

You Guys Are Fu Cking Idiots April 1, 2008 at 3:43pm
i dont know if you realize it but just hanging on a spiral ride IS stalling. bosak wasnt doing anything but sitting with his weight on winston with that spiral. winston was trying to step up but there is not much you can do when you have someone like that on you. winston was stalling at the time of the call on him tho. fu ck all you homos
I DONT THINK WINSTON OR WELCH WILL WIN A NCAA CHAMPION. I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT WINSTON DOES. FIRST OF ALL HE PICK THE WRONG COLLEGE TO DO ANYTHING. WELCH HAS TO GET THROUGH A SEASON IN THE BIG TEN BEFORE CONSIDERING HE WOULD WIN A TITLE. ONE OF THESE GUYS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT WILL HAVE A BETTER CAREER. THEYRE BOTH AND A PRETTY DEEP WEIGHT CLASS AND ONE OF THE GUYS THAT MADE A WISE COLLEGE WILL WIN A FEW TITLES.
You guys on this forum are all queers. Let Winston enjoy the win. He'll end up wrestling Welch, Howe, Cubberly, etc soon enough, then we'll find out. All four of these guys are going to get handled next year on occasion by the college boys anyway, and if you don't think so, you don't understand this sport very well.
Decent match, but I cant imagine either of these guys making a splash in their freshman year. Winston has near perfect technique, but is pretty one dimensional in his offense, doesn't capitalize on his opponent's missteps and create openings like he could. With his build and background however, he will possibly all american by his junior year, too bad he's in the rutgers room.
How about winston's first take down, that was pretty damn nice. Did Bosak do anything to win the match, Scott controlled the whole match and were you an All American as a freshman, I doubt it you scrub, you prob never made it out of districts and you know its true no matter what you want to pretend you did on here. P.S. I guarantee you Winston AA's as a frosh!
this ref is aweful!!!! he gives boask a stalling call haha....wow....winston is gunna killed in college..he won't even be an all american his freshman year
the only way welch can beat winston is on a funky switch or something weird or if scotty makes a mistake he cant match scottys strenght and speed welch is way better on top but i dont think welch will be on top more than 1 time in the match in college welch would have a better chance bc of riding time but if they faced in hs i def. think scotty would win
got destroyed by Poeta, Winston's style is almost exactly like Poeta's if you know anything. I personally not even being from either state Cali or NJ and from Ohio think that Welch's style matches up horribly against Winston and Winston would win. Would it be a good match, most def but Winston is more polished. I've seen Welch get taking down quite a few times even thrown, Winston wins. P.S Winston will have more NCAA Titles then Welch MARK MY WORD!
major winston??? Come on, get a life...it would be a toss up bout......everyone including Scottie wanted Cubbery in the finals for a rematch, but nothing is a given....
Best wrestler in the country does not best wrestling STATE in the country make. A lot more kids from PA (6) [and Mich. (4)] than NJ (3). Just to state the facts.
That said, Winston rocks and made it look easy.
No disrespect to winston, he scored at opportune times, though the second was questionable..anyway...stalling on bosak? Twice, while winston has his head on the mat? Wow, thats why you ref high school matches
why dont all you welch people shut up because winston won senior natinals..and welch was a no show..so u cant say anything...

polz is the best 160 pounder n the country
so yeah Winston would probley pin him in like 3:02
Scott Winston is a better athlete and person than every single person who posted a message here.
SCOTT WINSTON IS NOT GONNA BE ABLE TO GO 157 BECAUSE DARRION CALDWELL IS GONNA BE AT RUTGERS
165 IS NOT RIGHT FOR HIM BECAUSE HE IS TO SHORT
149 IS PERFECT

Cubberly to Central Michigan
